Hi all

I've enrolled on a 2 year course in Melbourne which starts in July. I'm now starting to get my doubts whether to go ahead with it all. My main concerns are; from earning ok money to now becoming a student, how will I manage to get by only being able to work 20 hours a week?.

The last little niggle is, as I'm going over on my lonesome, will it be a struggle meeting folk.... I'm always up for meeting poeple for a few bevvies whether it be the locals or us fellow poms!!

If anyone has been in the same boat then please give me a shout!! :notworthy:

Hi there, I went to Uni in Perth a few years ago. I also went on my own and gave up a well paid ft job. I did have a few mates out there from a 1year working holiday several years earlier, however, I made some really good mates at uni who I socialised with and am still in touch with now. I also had a pt job and I met people through that too. I won't lie, financially it was tough, only doing 20 hrs work pw in term time-but you can work as many as you want in the hols ( unless things have changed!)

I will say that it was a great experience and it gave me a new profession. Good luck

WOW!!! Lynchy you're doing exactly what I want to do in Melbourne. I'm hoping to get into RMIT in Feb 09.

I'm in the same situation, I've got a well paid job, but I want a career change and the 18mnth work visa after studying was the clincher. I'd have to work and use all my savings, but I've decided that it's definitely what I want to do.

I'm really struggling right now though. The application form for RMIT says they want certified academic transcripts....of what???? And also, they want certified copies of graduation certificates. Do they mean degree level or for everything?? And who needs to certify them and how??

I've emailed the international dept at the uni, but I'm still waiting for a response and time's pressing on. Help!!!!

I went on a world trip last year and loved Aus. I've just been to both Perth and Sydney to look at both with a view to studying at either, but I've ended up coming back around to Melbourne. Just had a really nice vibe to it and cheaper than Sydney or Perth!

Would be good to hear how you're getting on and doubly good if you could help me with all this certification stuff!!

Hello! I'm planing on doing the same thing in Adelaide on my own. Does anyone know of anyone who's managed to study for 2 years and support themselves working 20 hours a week? I made lots of friends in Adelaide on my working holiday visa and i'd imagine you'd make even more if your studying.

I've decided against it for now in the current climate. Applied for 475 visa instead, to Adelaide of all places. If that doesn't come off THEN I'll look at the study option again.

Looks like the recession has started to trickle into Oz right now too.
