Alan Collett
http://www.gm-parent-visas.com/news-flash-possible-reprieve-for-non-contributory-parent-and-aged-parent-visas/ I don't recall seeing this issue being raised here thus far ... a Disallowance Motion in the Senate this week relating to the Instrument that closed off the Parent (subclass 103) and Aged Parent (subclass 804) visas to new applicants at the end of May 2014. The same Instrument closed off new Remaining Relative and Carer applications. Best regards.
shellyk666
That's really interesting, thank you for sharing. I'm not familiar with how legislation is passed in Australia, do you have any idea how long the window could be open for applications to be submitted under these subclasses if the Disallowance Motion is passed? Days?? Weeks?? Months perhaps?

Alan Collett
That's really interesting, thank you for sharing. I'm not familiar with how legislation is passed in Australia, do you have any idea how long the window could be open for applications to be submitted under these subclasses if the Disallowance Motion is passed? Days?? Weeks?? Months perhaps? Depends what the Government decides to do, shellyk. Am not sure whether this is a core issue for the Government - if the Motion succeeds it might be that no further action is taken. First things first ... let's wait to see the result of the Motion. Alan Collett
Not sure ... I'm not an expert on procedure in the Senate. Sorry!
George Lombard
Have just checked with the Senate. The matter is still in the queue and hasn't yet reached the point of being determined; it might reach consideration in the next hour, or be held over until tomorrow morning. Apparently Senate scheduling is a "dark art" :-) You can see from http://www.aph.gov.au/Home/Parliamentary%20Business/Dynamic%20Red what matters have been finalised today or held over. Alan Collett
Thanks George. Glad I'm not the only one ... :-) I've been listening to the Senators blathering on in the background for the last 2 hours - 'tis almost a white noise! Best regards. George Lombard
Disallowance motion now scheduled for 11.50am today. If the matter has been predetermined then it will go through as a formal motion without a vote - most likely it will involve a vote, in which case there will be some debate. You can watch the fun by clicking on the "live" button on the Senate side of this website: http://www.aph.gov.au/ . The link to what's going on generally is http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Chamber_documents/Dynamic_Red . Good luck everyone.
