Transporting car while on a 457 visa ?

I don't know if you can do it, but I do know I wouldn't do it. I'd get PR first, for obvious reasons. I've seen too many 457's come unstuck. I'd walk before running.

If thats the case leaving my car in the UK would not make sense really ? [emoji53]

Same, wouldn't bring a vehicle unless I was on a PR visa (and even then we personally wouldn't bother).

I've not heard of anyone taking a veh on a 457, but have no idea on legalities. People have trouble getting extra baggage allowance on a 457, can't imagine it'll be that easy trying to bring a car.

Im seriously considering getting a container anyway, the company offering the 457 have a number of expats that are already on PR and full citizenship after going the 457 route . It would cost me alot more to get a similar car in Aus to the one I have here ,

i intend to make it work if i go and I will be going on a reccie soon to visit the company before the final decision is made .. hmmmmm [emoji53]

Here's one scenario. If you were to go to the trouble and expense of shipping your car out, then while it is on it's way, your 457 visa is cancelled. Bit of a pickle I'd think.

The company appears to be solid and I cannot see any reason why it would get cancelled because of myself .. why else could it get cancelled ?

Can/would the company sponsor you for a PR visa? There are many many reasons 457's go wrong. It's not a 'safe' visa (and this from the person who may end up on a 457 visa but I am aware of the high risks, if I could get PR I'd be going for that).

I honestly do not know , I guess because they are going to invest alot in me with the relocation package ie visa , accommodation , flights etc then the 457 gives them some security that I will stay with them [emoji53] .. it is a specialist type job and they cannot recruit the position locally

But what if someone in your family becomes ill and do would then fail the medicals for pr? These are things you have to think about. Maybe press them for pr sooner. There is no reason to wait two years if you can pass a skills assessment.

I understand you're committed, but what if (it may be a very big if) something happened with the company or your position? You'd be stuck with having to find a new sponsor or leave Oz in, I think, 90 days.

I know you've been on the forum a while, and you may know a lot about the 457 visa already. But if you do a search for 457 then it should bring up lots and lots of posts. Some good stories, some bad stories. But better to have both sides before you decide what to do. :-)

Would pr take longer and cost more for them to do ? You have gotten me thinking hmmmmm

It does take a bit longer, and costs more. Often the employee pays for it themselves.

It might be worth (assuming you can pass the skills assessment) asking them to add into your contract that they will sponsor for pr after a three month trial.

Have you looked into the cost of it as we where all intent on bringing our beloved audi TT until we got a quote for the luxury tax, import tax, potential cleaning costs, shipping cost! Alas poor Edith the Audi was "rehomed" & i now have Bruce the Prado!

A little .. their are some threads on here ive been reading ," iron lady imports" seem to take all the trouble out of it really
