Hopman
Hello All, I am hoping to get some advice and opinion on the character requirement for the 457 visa. I have just been offered the job of my life with a fortune 50 company in Australia. That company has enlisted the services of a firm to process my visa and one of the questions they ask on the form is, have I been convicted of a crime or offence in acountry (including those now removed from official records). I have a couple of drinking and driving arrests from over 7 years ago that I am not even sure appear in my record anymore. The last one, I had to spend a couple of weeks in Jail. Should I be concerned that this would be cause for visa issues or application rejection? Any information related to this would be greatly appreciated as I am starting to get nervous. Thanks. Parley
Whatever you do don't lie. Be truthful on the form and disclose what convictions you have.

It won't be a showstopper, but may slow the process down. Also probably your future employer will find out as they will undoubtedly be handling the application. So you might want to come clean to them first too.
Hopman
Thanks to both of you for your quick reply. I am wondering though what happens next? Will I need to do a formal police check? I have lived outside of the US since the last incident, what does the police check involve? Thanks again for any information you can provide. It is really appreciated. StevenLozza
Declare everything on the application form, The CO will ask for the police check to be done and for what country or countries, I had a drink drive from 12years ago and it didn't show up. But I declared it anyway.
