ASHGOON Posted June 11, 2014 Share Posted June 11, 2014 Hi all I'm looking to sell my property in the UK - its been a consideration for a while and with the new CGT rules coming into play, it makes sense to start the ball rolling. My issue is that I am here in the Australia, the good news is my father is in the UK. So my question is, what is the easiest way to give my father power of attorney so that he can deal with the house sale in my absence? Is this also the best way to proceed? I can deal with lawyers etc from here, but it just seems that it will be a lot easier this way. Plus he has plenty of experience in buying/selling property, more than I have, which also helps. When it first went on the market I was in Edinburgh so everything was done by email anyway, and when the offer came in I was in Melbourne and it was the same. Any documents requiring my signature were scanned and emailed, and I posted them back. The time difference probably slowed things a bit because it was 11 hours at that stage and any queries from either side took a day to get a reply, but it all went through fine so is definitely do-able. Maria1970 Posted June 11, 2014 Share Posted June 11, 2014 I completed on a house in England last week and like above most documents were completed and signed using Docusign. The two documents I had to sign and return by post were the Contract and Transfer of Deeds, these needed my actual signature and had to be posted. However, I have just accepted an offer on another house and using a different solicitor and the new one is saying everything can be done by email with no posting of anything, so maybe depends on the solicitor you instruct.
