  1. ok thanks all for the quick and helpful answers looks like i won't have to hassle my dad although i think he was keen to get back into house buying/selling again!! just out of interest, were there any issues you came across, or any gotchas i need to be aware of when selling from overseas? just feels strange selling the biggest investment i ever made and not being there in person!!
  2. Hi all I'm looking to sell my property in the UK - its been a consideration for a while and with the new CGT rules coming into play, it makes sense to start the ball rolling. My issue is that I am here in the Australia, the good news is my father is in the UK. So my question is, what is the easiest way to give my father power of attorney so that he can deal with the house sale in my absence? Is this also the best way to proceed? I can deal with lawyers etc from here, but it just seems that it will be a lot easier this way. Plus he has plenty of experience in buying/selling property, more than I have, which also helps. Any advice would be gratefully accepted - thanks in advance!
  3. so, the problem i have is that the agent is the one being provided by my company. however, she has no understanding of IT and thus can't differentiate between the various types of anzsco code. so it makes life difficult trying to explain to her that on the 1 hand, if i use my existing code someone with any knowledge will see straight away that i am not what my visa states, and on the other, if i switch to what my skill actually is which is a listed skill, someone could feasibly question why i am on a visa for a job i don't do. i am contemplating getting advice from another migration consultant (ABA aka Raul looks a good bet!), but i thought i'd ask to see if anyone had any ideas on this, because as Raul stated, this is not uncommon in the IT field, as there are so many different categories..
  4. Sorry, thats not true - all of the visa stuff was taken care of the company who offered me a job. it was all done in a couple of months, we weren't even looking to come to oz, but once the job was offered and i accepted, everything moved quickly to the point that i was in sydney 3 months after the 1st interview.. so i was not aware/not appreciative of the process, and at that point frankly didn't care as we had enough to sort out in the 3 months we had. the company had a migration company take care of everything so apart from supply paperwork i didn't have to apply for anything on my own. hence the situation i am in. i stated that in my OP that the company did the whole application. so, anyone able to provide thoughts on this?
  5. Hi Raul thanks for your comments. I believe i am getting a co sponsored 186 visa, although it may also be a 189 depending on whether they agree! Does that make any difference then? Yes i noticed it on the web page, but it wasn't in the pdf that i downloaded from the website (although the code is still there, the job now no longer has the NEC at the end).
  6. Hey all I am applying for permanent residency, and at present i have a 457 visa based on an application done by my previous company, which got accepted. however that was for a "software & app programmer nec" which is nothing like the job i do, but for whatever reason was accepted! now however, my migration consultant is telling me that i need to use the same code for my PR application, as otherwise they will question what/why i have been here on a visa that had nothing to do with my job. i have told her there is no way i can stick with the existing code - she has no real knowledge of IT and so is asking whether i can somehow link my work experience to the existing code - and i can't see how i can (i'm more of a "computer network and system engineer" code). the 457 job code itself doesn't exist in the new ANZSCO list, but there is still a "software & app programmer" which would be the code i would probably have to use. so what should i do in terms of which code to use going forward? my gut feeling is to use the network code as that fits what i do, and the ACS would know in a heartbeat that my job has nothing to do with the programmer code. however the migration consultant is very reluctant to swap 1 for another and hinted that this could cause problems with my existing visa being questioned... any thoughts/help??! thanks in advance..
  7. well - i'd forgotten about this, but seeing as the season is in full swing, i'll have another go to see if anyones up for a drink on a friday evening or sunday afternoon/evening to talk footie and general brit stuff once we run out of footie talk (yeah right!). so...up for it? in town, the hills, ettamogah (kellyville), frankly anywhere!!
  8. don't want to talk to you right now - maybe in a week or so!
  9. haha know the feeling, couple of my brothers friends live in melbourne and we had a good "discussion" the last time i was over there - but thats the problem, they're over there!! gotta be brits in sydney who still yearn to go to the pub, talk footie (and possibly other sports if we have to), have a beer or 2, whinge about the high temperatures and then go home into the loving arms of our spouses (i wish..).
  10. thanks mate - but the problem is i'm not going to make it down that often for match days, certainly not during the summer as wife wont have me coming back home in the early hours of a sunday seing as matches start at 2am! looking more for an after work thing, or weekend..
  11. hey all been here a yr, and am starting to really miss going to the pub and talking footie with my mates. friends i've made here have no interest in the beautiful game! so was wondering if anyones interested in getting together and chewing the fat over a pint. i'm a 40something arsenal fan but dont hold that against me!! happy to talk to spurs fans too, i'm that desperate!! based in sydney, i live in the hotbed of activity that is cherrybrook, but am happy to meet up in town on a thu/fri evening. also the ettamogah pub in kellyville is a good location for a chat and food/drink esp in the weekend. so anyone up for that? Ash
  12. well i was going to suggest somewhere local, but seeing as you're in perth that might be a problem!! think as the chelski match is an early start i may try and make it into town, just need to know where the crowd is, heard the star casino is one of the venues, just need to confirm it is.
  13. don't mention that!! possibly the lowest i've felt as a gooner since we were robbed by owen in the fa cup final all those yrs ago.
  14. we're gonna win the league!! or maybe not....but we'll be there or thereabouts as usual, closer i bet. still think we're 1 decent striker short. AW's won everybody round this yr - think its something to do with 2 of his best signings in yrs in podolski and cazorla, possibly lifting us from merely good to something more.
  15. sorry for the lateness to my own post!! got a last minute call to go to san diego after a colleague pulled out of a jolly. wish i hadnt bothered, jetlagged most of the time i was there!!
  16. soooo - anyone up for a drink next week, talking FOOTIE??!! come on, cazorla, that scumbag RVP, the continuing demise of liverpool, spurs being as scummie as ever, how good is podolski, is hazard that good - so many things to talk about!!
  17. oh well, doesn't look like i'm missing much here!! still up for a drink if anyones up for it, if only so i can moan about RVP leaving!!
  18. in this day and age, i'll take CL - only the premiership/champions league titles rate higher. can't imagine for us that winning the carling cup and not making the CL would be considered a success, in fact for us, without rich benefactors it would be a disaster..
  19. i think with those players its more a case of tv not being around enough during that era..i really would love to have seen the hungarians in action from that time.
  20. btw - getting back to one of the original points, anyone wanting confirmation of how great a job AW has done on the budget he (allegedly) has(n't), take a look at this table of transfer dealings over the last 5 yrs - mans a genius for keeping us in the CL during this time.. http://arsenal.theoffside.com/files/2012/07/Clubs-spending.jpg
  21. there you go pablo - i'm not a blinkered gooner!!
  22. i did quantify it by saying rightly or wrongly. its just the way it is. people who saw di stefano play say he was the greatest, ask any normal footie fan and they probably haven't even heard of him, or at least couldn't name which team/country he played for; law/greaves best goalscorers of their generation, more remembered for their punditry while hurst got the plaudits and knighthood; dalglish was top of the game late seventies, the likes of keegan get the euro footballer of the yr awards (and i'm sure all scousers agree dalglish >> keegan!!); rummenigge/platini not as feted as muller/the kaiser/ZZ i would say; and best/eusebio considered by many in the know to be amongst the top 5/10 players of all time - again your man in the street/working for the tabloids would beg to differ..
