Guest sideslipmike Posted June 6, 2005 Share Posted June 6, 2005 Hi my name is Mike and my wife is called Heather and i`ve a daughter Holly-Jane and yes yet another Pom wanting to move to Auz. I`ve been thinking about it for sometime now and am thinking of starting the process of emigrating. Not really sure as to where we`ll be moving to, but thats the plus side of my job, they relocate me to where i`m needed. But i want to be able to buy my own property, send my daughter to school, have children out there, live a nice lifestyle with my wife. But what i`m unsure of is, is the Medical and dental treatment good? How about the education i hear the state schools out there are simialar to our private schools? Is living out there cheap, ie buying food, paying electri/gas/water bills, clothes, utilities etc..And finally how often do you come across deadly bugs in your home??My wife has a terrible fear of spiders, and worried our little girl would play with them. Guest ironmaggi Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 I was interested when you said you were going out under your company - my name's Maggi and my husband, Simon, is looking at transferring with his company but everything I've read seems to say you need to be under 45 [he's 46!] except in "exceptional circumstances" - anyone have any idea what these are? just that the company "need" you?? :? Beddy Posted October 19, 2014 Share Posted October 19, 2014 Medical and dental treatment is on par with UK however it depends on your visa on what your entitlement are i.e If you are permanent resident you will be entitled to Medicare which if you go with a bulk billing doctor most visits will be free however any specialist referrals you will have to pay for .. All dental for those who have no concessions are fee paying which is basically most adults .children of permanent residents get a voucher towards costs which basically covers costs for consultations , fillings etc but any orthodontic treatment you will have to pay for . State schools are not similar to private schools as they are not fee paying for the education ,however you do have to pay for school supplies ie books, pens etc but you do get a voucher towards this which in turn makes this basically free except for excursions ,incursions etc basically similar to UK .This is all if you have permanent residency . If you are on a tempororary visa then you do have to pay school fees , medical etc and have to take out medical health insurance in accordance with your visa ( I do not have no experience with this so cannot advise you correctly ) . Living out here is not cheap however in my opinion income generally equates similar to that of the UK after paying all costs and for us disposable income we have found is higher and we have managed to save ., but I guess that's what job your in and what lifestyle you have .,don't worry about deadlies unless your planning on living in the bush , if you get your house sprayed each year you'll see less spiders than in the UK .
