trabonita
Hi, my family and I are heading to the Nelson Bay area in a few days time but I'm not familiar with the Newcastle area and was hoping someone could point me in the direction of good beaches/areas/things to do (we have a toddler)in the Newcastle area?, we will have a car. Paul1Perth
It's lovely round Nelson Bay but Newcastle has some great beaches of its own. The Iron Man series was from there a couple of weeks ago and the beach looked great.

n1ck
Make sure you check this place out, great for a swim - http://www.visitnsw.com/destinations/north-coast/newcastle-area/newcastle/attractions/bogey-hole
Kapri
I live in this area and there are lots of great things to do. All of the beaches are fab from Nelson bay right down through Newcastle. As N1ck says, check out the bogey hole. You can take your toddler to Blackbutt reserve, it's free and he will see kangaroos, koalas and wombats. You can do a dolphin cruise and sandboarding (great fun) from Nelson's bay. the Hunter valley wineries is a great day out (although maybe not with a toddler!). Speers point park by Lake Macquarie is great for kids. Huge play area, cafe, views etc.
Guest Ptp113
Used to put my boat in at Toronto and ski to Warners Bay or Wangi Wangi etc. Good days there in the 70's.
