Leonie25
Migrating to Australia only have 2 years left on my passport. I've read somewhere that you need at least 5 years. Does anyone know if this is the case?
Macduff Lynne
When we moved over in July 2013, I had less than 2 years on my one and my daughter had only 10 months. We,re just in the process of getting her a new one as we speak.

Alaska
Can't think how that would be true as you wouldn't renew a passport with almost 5 years on it - especially children who have 5 year passport. Anyway we had to renew DS's passport which ran out about 18 months after arrival.
Jackboots
I've just renewed mine on the new system , what happens to the Visa entry ? Does anyone know ? I didn't know if you just got the old passport back and it's tagged or something ... I've written to ask them as well .

You need to tell DIBP about the new passport so they can link the visa to the new passport number on their system. You would need to do this before trying to travel abroad with it. Cubic
When coming on a 457 we needed 6 months minimum on our passports when we landed, so I had to renew mine a little bit early.
