Subclass 189 visa steps and experiences

I'm really interested in other people that have experience with a 189 visa or people who are also in the process of getting one right now.

My intention is to get a Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189).

I know there are lot's of Migration Agents that can help, but they are pretty expensive and I heard it's also doable on your own.

My personal info:

Country: Netherlands

Age: 25 - 32 years => 30 points

English language: IELTS 7 or higher => 10 points

Skilled employment: At least 5 years => 10 points

Qualifications: Bachelor degree => 15 points

TOTAL => 65 points

My current job, Systems Analyst, is on the SOL.

So I guess the next step would be to submit an Expression of Interest.

However, the immigration website says I have to have all documents ready, before submitting an EoI.

To do list:

1) Translate diploma's and other legal documents

2) Approving the translated documents by a legal authority

3) Getting my qualifications recognized at the Australian Computer Society

4) Getting my work experience recognized? Is this necessary?

5) Am I forgetting something?

Is there anyone else who has experience with this visa?

And if so, are these steps the right ones? There's so much info on the immigration website...that it's hard to make sure you're doing the right things in the right order.

You are forgetting IELTS. You need that as well as skills assessment before you lodge the EOI.

Do not lodge the EOI before these things are in your hands.

I got my IELTS in the pocket, so that's one less thing to worry about.

But should I do an assessment for both my work experience and my qualifications?

That's one of the major things I'm not sure of...

I'm in a similar situation. It is a bit confusing, but I've submitted an ACS skills assessment: http://www.acs.org.au/migration-skills-assessment

I'm not getting my Bachelors degree certified since I believe it is considered equivalent to an Australian one. It isn't very clear on their website though:

3

Skills

Assessment

This is a general skills

assessment

application

to assess

tertiary ICT qualification

s

and ICT employment.

4

Recognition Letter

The ACS Recognition Letter is

NOT

a skills assessment. This application is if you

already hold

a skills

assessment and require recognition of your ICT qualifications or ICT skilled employment for migration

purposes.

Regardless of whether you have a degree I thought you needed to get it assessed anyhow to show its equivalent tot an Aussie one. Am I wrong?

I believe it needs to be assessed too, but I think that is what the ACS skills assessment does. At least I hope so.

Hi there,

We are also applying for the same visa... I believe the stages are as follows:

stage 1: complete skills assessment

stage 2: once a positive result is received you will then submit an expression of interest through skillselect

stage 3: you will then be issued an invitation to apply (ITA)

stage 4: log on to DIPB where you submit your final complete application to be approved by DIPB so your visa can be granted

can take up to 12months.

I got my diploma's and work experience translated and certified.

ACS is assessing my qualifications right now.

I'm already in step 4 of 5, but it can take up to 12 weeks in total.

Hopefully the result will be positive...

Then I'm ready to apply for an EOI. Will let you know the outcome of the ACS assessment.

So far everything is pretty straight forward.

If anyone has any questions on the ACS assessment, just let me know!
