  1. I'm 99% sure it's the date you put the EOI in, some documents like your skills assessment, IELTS etc have expiry dates too and they took my expiry dates to be up to the EOI.
  2. I filled out the form as normal but the lawyer I had, sent it in. I don't know if he did anything different than me just applying for it normally. Just be careful though once they make a decision about your 461 visa you need to leave the country as soon as possible for them to approve it because you applied for the visa outside of australia. They don't let you know if its a yes or no until you leave, then you get an email within 2 working days to let you know. Prices for flights etc could be expensive just as a warning. Are they taking forever with your application too?
  3. It's a good stop gap but a lot of people don't like you on that visa if you are looking for work, many even question the 461 to be honest as it's not a common visa. I hope things have changed, I based my application on the processing times on the website and gave them 3 months before I had to leave. I thought it was plenty. My fingers and toes are crossed for you. Unfortunately he isn't an immi lawyer anymore cause I was hoping he would help me out with my PR but I never got a reply back and when I searched immi's website for his details he wasn't registered anymore. There are a few lawyers on this forum and a few sign in and help people too. Start a new thread if you like requesting a good immi advisor, you'll get loads of help.
  4. yeah I know, believe me I went grey during it all. I ended up getting a working holiday visa to give me a year in Aus and the ability to get a bit of work. The visitors visa is only 3 months and i'm nearly sure you have to show proof of a return flight. I also ended up hiring an immigration lawyer to give me bit of advice as there was no way to contact immigration. He was the one who suggested the working holiday visa. He got in contact with immigration to give me an update, either way I had no issues getting in at all. The only issue was since I submitted my application outside of Aus, I needed to be outside when they gave me the decision. I got an email to say a decision was ready, had 24 hours to leave the country and once I left within a few hours I got an email to say it was approved and came back in on my 461, so I just went to NZ for the weekend. To be honest we've just gone through PR and the PR application was so much easier than the 461! Bare in mind though, this was over a year ago for me, it might not be the case now.
  5. Hi, it was terrible. Mine came through in early August in the end. The immigration website was way off the mark with the times. I ended up moving to Aus cause we had flights booked and everything, which we probably shouldn't have done but we thought we'd left plenty of time to be approved or a request for more information. I needed to head out of Australia when they had made my decision so I ended up a few days back in NZ and then enter Aus on my 461. I do hope your application gets processed a lot quicker.
  6. I'm not keen to buy a car because your left with maintenance etc especially if your not lucky with what you've bought and you could end up spending a fortune. My plan will be to buy a good car in January but just for the time being I was hoping to get a long term rental. Thanks tomjackman and petitescargot. Does anyone know of smaller companies in the suburbs? I did some hunting in Perth and found a really nice and cheap company in the north that worked amazing.
  7. I'm not sure where this is supposed to go, but I'm looking for a long term rental car in Melbourne for around 3 months. Anybody have any idea, I've done the usual google search but I know there's generally place so in the suburbs that offer cheaper than the normal car hire company's. I'm pretty limited with budget ($20-$25 a day) and I don't mind what year/type of car I get.
  8. That's got to hurt. Glad I'm in now rather than later in the year! Thanks for responding
  9. Sorry if this is a dumb statement but if the full quota apply next month for my category that leaves those applying the rest of the year out of luck with getting an invitation until next year, would they let that happen? Sent in my EOI last the weekend :jiggy:
  10. Thanks maggiemay, that's helped heaps. I'm doing the EOI this weekend so thanks for the info. In the meantime I'm getting the police certs but in my last job they were only valid for 3 months and I was worried the 3 months might be up if I don't get selected to apply. do you know how you find out if your occupation is classified as pro-rata. I'm an aeronautical engineer so I go other 'other engineer'.
  11. I think i'd error on the side of caution with this one and get one just in case, I'd be annoyed if I got that far and the police cert was the one thing that delayed it since they're not that hard to get but take a while.
  12. Hi, I'm about to submit my EOI (I have the IELTS and skills assessment done) but I have a few questions I haven't been able to find answers to and hopefully someone can help out. - Can I confirm all I need to submit the EOI is my IELTS and assessment? Do they ask for other forms or paperwork? - When do the occupation ceilings reset? - Do they limit the applications per round if a number of people apply under the same code? Looking forward to the application (fingers and toes crossed) - I cant seem to find if police clearances from other countries expire, do immigration put an expiry date on them? - Do medicals have an expiry date? - I'm applying with my partner, can I please get a checklist of documents they get you to fill in and provide. I know we'll have to prove relationship and that's not an issue since i'm currently on a 461 and had to do that already, so I just need to prove we are still in the relationship which isn't too bad. But i'd like to have the forms filled out and the documents I need aside so the application can go smoothly and I'm not rushing around tearing my hair trying to out finding documents. Any help would be amazing, thank you in advance.
  13. previous comments have helped knowing that other people are in the same situation although not a nice situation to be in
  14. Wow that is not good at all maryjanejones or dhillon07. I have to admit I'm not sure why TTS is there at all. You email them and they forward your email to the consulate. They just seemed to be a middle person who knows nothing about my application at all and are not able to help either. Agree with you dhillon07 completely. Looks like I might need to cancel the application and head to Aus on a WHV and apply over there when I have more time for the processing of the 461. They do send the applications to Sydney though I did find that out. They do need to update their website to give people a clearer view on processing times.
  15. and just make sure it's all closed, don't open them and you'll be fine.
  16. Just checked! Nothing in the junk mail! So you didn't get an email to say they were looking at your application? The problem is in NZ you apply in a different office to the immigration office. They give you a receipt with a login for their website (not immi) to see how your application is going. When I rang to ask for information they just bring up that page on the website which I can see. You don't talk to a CO at all and they won't give you contact details for a CO either or anyone that would have more info. Plus the last thing I want to do is keep bugging them! They probably have a section to click if the person was in constant contact to make the application process longer!
  17. wow 3 weeks, now I'm worried. They'll have mine 3 months in a week! I'm not British though I'm Irish currently living in New Zealand so I'll have to get insurance which I'm ok with. I have it here in NZ too. Did you get any email correspondence with a CO when they were looking at your application or any correspondence at all from anyone after you sent you application through? I'm afraid that they've lost mine at this stage!
  18. Thanks for replying. Hopefully someone else knows if/who I can contact. Yes I know the 461 doesn't lead toward PR. I do tick all the boxes for the 189 at the minute it was just a money issue I haven't gone that way and in our current position it wasn't getting any closer. We're hoping the few years in Aus will take us closer and I can put my NZ partner on my visa application as I'll need to be the main applicant for us both to be PR then. The 461 was always going to be a short term solution for us.
  19. Hi all, I applied for a 461 visa on the 27th January. According to the immi website the processing time should only have been 2 months. I have heard nothing from them and I'm starting to get a little worried/anxious. I sent in a lot of paperwork to prove I've been with my partner over a year. We have been together over 5 years so that paperwork wasn't hard to get together so I don't think there will be an issue with it. So my questions are; 1) Should I try and get in contact with anyone on the progress of it and if so who? I applied for the visa in New Zealand. 2) I have flights booked to head to Aus the 29th May. I really didn't think the visa would take this long and I understand it says don't book flights etc but what's done is done, I just hope I can still head there then. If I still haven't heard from immigration should I apply for a working holiday/visitor visa. The working holiday I know I automatically get until I turn 30. I wish I applied a little earlier for it but that'll teach me for when we apply for PR in a few years. Please don't criticise (too much!) I feel quite crap about it already.
  20. MaggieMay I'm glad that process is gone. A bit unfair to those that decide to do the paperwork themselves. I just went onto the immi site to look up processing times again and they have revised them to just 2 months from a low risk country. They have my application since 27th January, I really hope it comes through soon or even just an update. This waiting with no contact is a bit stressful! I'd hate to have a PR visa in now, those people must have no hair left by the end of it!
  21. Wow that was quick. Mine is definitely not taking 3 weeks. They have had my application since the end of January and I have heard nothing yet. I applied for it in New Zealand. Do you know if they send it through to Australia for processing or do they process them in the country you submitted the paperwork? All the paperwork was submitted with my application I made sure of that. Fingers crossed it comes soon.
  22. Hi, I currently live in Auckland and am making the move to head to Perth in May. Auckland is quite expensive to live in and both me and my partner who have full time jobs, of which we needed qualifications for, can't afford to buy here and it's only going up and up. The problem I have about it also is that the houses aren't worth what people are paying for them and it won't change anytime soon. Moving to another city for us isn't really an option because of the work we do so maybe this isn't the case for you because other towns/cities are very different. It really does depend on where you want to go. The lifestyle here is very nice and very green and so much more outdoors stuff to do because of the weather. And I agree with the statements above I've heard a lot of NZ's go to Aus for a better life but not so much the other way around! trademe.co.nz is a really good website looking up rentals and houses (and everything else!) all over NZ.
  23. Hi, thankyou for your replies. I was thinking about renting at first but the idea will be to buy eventually. I think the fact we can look around once we are there is a huge help. I don't think I could buy without seeing the area first and then again and again....! We are not the nightclub and late nights type of people. We do enjoy our walks and outdoor activities and some peaceful, quiet times at home. Probably not for everyone but each to their own P.S. we have no kids either and no plan to have any in the near and distance future so not too worried about schools etc. Thank you Paul1Perth. We will make sure Coogee and the coast are on our list. We do like the idea of living near the beach and I love the fact the weather lets you use the beach so much more. We are actually travelling over from NZ and I am basing the rent to what we earn and spend here. Hopefully with the jobs we are looking at we end up with a little more to spend on houses to rent and eventually buy.
  24. Hi All, Myself and my partner are moving to Perth this May (so excited!!!) and I am hunting down information on where to live and look for houses. We will be staying with my aunt first so will get to have a look at the suburbs before committing but I want to do as much planning as I can. Because of our jobs we will need to live near Jandakot airport. As long as we are within a 15-20 minute drive we'd be happy. Money wise we'd be looking at max $450 mark. Anyone have any experience on the suburbs around there? Cheers
  25. I'm hoping so. I was abit shocked when she said 3-6 months as I would've thought the immi website would be up to date. Thanks for replying.
