Guest The Pom Queen
"WHAT side of the bed does your wife sleep on?" "Describe your moustache." We bet you never saw these questions coming when you applied for your visa ... Here are the 10 strangest things travellers around the world have been asked during a visa application, according to a survey by travel website IXPVisas.com. 1. How many wives do you intend to bring? - Middle East. 2. Describe your moustache/beard - Mexico. The options were: scanty, bushy or clipped. 3. Have you been to a farm in the past six weeks? - Australia. 4. What side of the bed does your wife sleep on? - US. 5. Foreigners please sing in the box - a rather unfortunate typo seen on a Mexican immigration form. 6. In China, the visa form asked "Reasons for visiting" and listed "Visit" as an option ... 7. Two people said the India visa application form asked you to state your religion but that you could not select 'None' as a response. You have to select 'Other' and then write 'None'. 8. "Name three things about ..." - according to seven people polled, this is asked of potential students to make sure they are knowledgeable about the subject they claim they will be studying. Liam Clifford of IXPVisas.com said of the survey: "Some of these questions may seem a bit ridiculous to those looking to enter another country, but this often just helps to highlight cultural differences." Guest Ptp113
The Aussie question is very logical. Think about it!
Levi
From the point of view of the respective countries all of the questions seem reasonable. 1. Wives, Middle East - yes. 2. Moustache, Mexico - yes. The fourth question, which is a dumb one - yes, but what would you expect from the USA? And so on. : ))
CollegeGirl
I can actually understand #4. I've heard of Aus immigration asking it as well, in an interview with a spouse visa applicant to help determine if they were really married. Still hilarious, though. blossom
I was asked the farm one for the US. Foot and mouth was around at the time.
Petals
Having been filling out forms for months now I am not surprised in fact they seem normal, who thinks them up?
CollegeGirl
Other hilarious questions asked by immigration during partner visa interviews, as reported on the other immigration forum I frequent: "Are you in the habit of giving your phone number out to strangers?" (Asked of the sponsor, because in their relationship history statements they'd described how she gave him her phone number the first time they met.) "When did you first [do the horizontal tango] with your partner?" (Officer who asked this one was actually fired for it, the poster said.) "Where did you have dinner after your wedding?" "What brand of underwear does your husband wear?" "Why can't you find someone closer to home to marry?" "Why does your fiance love you?" "What color are the curtains in your bedroom?"
