without trying to predict the weather, from what I've seen here: Canberra has lots of blue sky days and then some days of really heavy storms and rain then back to blue skies again. We were due some rain, hadn't had a proper downpour since Jan.

I think this was the biggest rain day since March 2012, when they had a "once in a decade" low pressure system that bucketed down.

It was like a rainy British week to us so nothing unusual...but apparently the 7 overcast days were the most continuous days without sunshine since 1955.
