Yet they continue to be aired as a sign of economic conditions. Those registered claiming benefit would for the most part be folk with no savings and likely limited job prospects. Most of us having a healthy degree of savings in the bank or even a partner working will not come up in any stats. It is not unreasonable taking into consideration the earning capacity many have been in over recent years to find themselves in this position. They cannot claim government so there is no record. Nor of the under employed. Figures are without a lot of meaning in these circumstances, especially with so many lay offs in the mines and more to come.
