Medicus
Hi guys, I would appreciate some advice with my visa application. Our current situation is: - We have been working in Australia for 3 years (457 visa), I'm a Doctor, my hubby is Human Resources Coordinator - Currently we are in the process of applying for PR. I qualify for NSW state sponsorship but haven't applied yet - According to the skills select list I accumulate 80 points, I haven't lodged an EOI yet. Given that I already have a quite high number of points would it make more sense to apply for a 189 straight away or should I apply for a NSW state sponsorship and then for a 190 visa? Does the processing time for a 189 visa shorten when you have a higher number of points? Cheers Medicus
mattybe
I would just go straight for the 189, my 189 was processed in under 3 months, it would take you that amount of time just to get NSW state sponsorship. Just my opinion though. I would only have ever gone for a 190 if I was desperate for the extra 5 points.
Medicus
Thanks for the reply, I think I will do as you said Cheers Medicus
Tickled Pink
Yes, go straight for PR without state sponsorship for sure. We did a similar thing with the 186 visa (rather than the 187 state sponsored), and were processed quite quickly. 5 months (or just under) from initial submission to grant. It'll mean, even if you have no intention of moving from where you are, that you have freedom to do as you wish from day one.

Rupert
Another vote for 189. One less step in the process.
