The Celt
Hi, I will be applying for a Spouse Visa in the next few months, and just wondered if anyone knows approx how long they take to be granted and for how long it will be valid for. We are hoping to go in approx 12-18 months, and need to try and get the timings correct. Any other advise or tips on the application greatly appreciated as the application form is horrendous. I am married to an Australian Citizen and have been together for 13 years and married for 3 but it still seems so daunting! Thanks in anticipation. wakeboard1980
Think the approval time is currently 8-9 months. Have a look at the spouse visa thread in the migration section. There will be plenty of people on there to help you that are going brought the process at the moment.

lebourvellec
Welcome to PIO Offshore Partner Visas lodged in London are taking about 9 months, you will have 12 months from earliest date of medicals or Police Check to make first entry to Australia. Once your application is lodged, you will get a CO quickly who will request additional documents, and medicals and police checks, once these are complete you will get a estimation of when your visa will be granted. You should get a PR visa from the start, with the amount of time you have been together, and it will be valid for 5 years from date of grant. Guest GeorgeD
Here's the best resource for Offshore Spouse visa application info on this forum http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/58449-summary-spouse-visa-processing-times-offshore-uk-please-add-your-stats.html Go to the most recent posts and you can see the timescales people are being advised for current applications. You will get plenty of advice posting on that thread too. Based on the info you've given, there really isn't much to worry about (as long as you don't have any serios medical issues or significant criminal history) You are likely to be eligible immediately for the Subclass 100 Permanent Spouse Visa, so straight to PR. You can live and work in Oz indefinitely (although you need to renew it every 5 years if you haven't ebcome a Citizen and want to travel in and out of Oz...but none of this is bad at this point)
The Celt
Thank you George Not seriously ill (as far as I'm aware!) and no criminal record - excellent news thanks
dmjg
Echoing GeorgeD, no real problems that should crop up. We filled in paperwork ourselves, submitted it sept 08, medical jan 09, granted march 09. On plane aug 09. Hearing all the horror stories we were very nervous, even with all our evidence, but very smooth. The only issue was trying to find an approved doctor for the medical around Christmas time in the snow.
The Celt
Thanks dmjg - will be approx 12 months before we can go so timings of 8-9 month for Visa works out quite well. Yes, it all seems very daunting at the moment . . . What sort of evidence did you submit as proof your relationship? I'm planning on sending photo's, wedding videos, mortgage info, wills etc.
Tulip
If you read the booklet it specifies the things you need to include; video and pics aren't on the list to include so we haven't added any. We have included financial documents, like bank statements showing transfers between accounts, etc. and cards addressed to both of us, as well as other stuff.
