Rupert
Charges an be found on the immigration website, see below. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/parent.htm The 103 visa has a long processing time, the parent visas with a shorter processing time (e.g. 12 - 18 months) are very, very much more expensive as you can see. Linday
Unfortunately the normal parent visa 103 has a waiting list of approx 15-20 years as so few visas are granted each year. For most parents the only option is the Contributory Parent Visa 143. Contributory in the fact that it is costly - here is a link to the costs: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/parent.htm Plus an Assurance of Support of $10,000 dollars, refundable after 10 years. How old is your m-i-l? If over 65 she , may be able to apply onshore for the Aged Parent visa 804, although she may not be able to do this if she has a 'No Further Stay' condition on her visitor visa and it is not strictly legal to travel to Australia with the intention of staying. Also the wait for the actual visa grant is about 8 years, I think and she will have to pass a medical before visa grant. As I said, the only real option for parents is the Contributory Parent visa, or to split the cost some parents go for the temporary 173 first which allows 2 years stay in Australia and then she will have to apply for the 143. The visa processing time is currently 15-18 months. If over 65 she could apply onshore for the Aged Contributory Parent visa which is processed quicker. Start here: http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/visa-options.htm and have a look at Booklet 3: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books3.htm If you have any further questions there is a parent visa thread as a sticky at the top of this forum. Just one other point, you need to be a permanent resident and settled in Australia to sponsor her - usually 2 years.
Freesia
you already said you were applying for your own mother & were given all this information previously....I'm not sure you can sponsor both. Maybe someone else can comment on this for you.
