Joebloggs
An applicant seeking to overstay their visitor visa or to remain in Australia on a subsequent visa is not considered a genuine visitor. http://www.immi.gov.au/gateways/agents/pdf/subclass-457-visitors.pdf

Guest guest71686
i obtained permission from my CO to enter on a tourist visa before my 457 was approved. This was on the basis that my partner had to leave the uk by 10th September last year, and i was still waiting for my 457 in late August. In the end I got the visa on 1st Sept ish but i think with circumstances it can be allowed
