Area/distance advice (merrimac/robina)

Hi, is there anyone on here that knows these areas? I've seen a house in merrimac (lakelands drive) that I like, I'm just wondering if it would be easy for my 2 eldest children (15yrs & 17yrs) to get to and from robina town centre? Are the public transport links good? And what is merrimac like to live in for a family? Also my daughter will be going to TAFE in coomera, will it be easy enough for her to get to early in the mornings?

any advice much appreciated.

Public transport on the Gold Coast is poor so while I don't know the specific area but you're likely to be looking at infrequent and slow buses at best to Robina (prob stopping at about 7PM) although it doesn't look far to drive. As for driving to Coomera you're looking at the Pacific Motorway which I drive every day and it's heaving with traffic from 5AM but that part is usually travelling quickly (unless there's roadworks) probably 30 mins drive either way, so an hours round trip on a very busy motorway twice a day if you have to drop her off/pick up, better to drive to Robina or Nerang and get the train from there, although its frequently standing room only.

TBH with those two destinations in mind I'd go for somewhere near a railway station, which Merrimac isn't, there's plenty of other houses.

I echo the above advise re public transport on the Gold Coast. From the timetable http://www.qic.qld.edu.au/Forms/080728_755,758.pdf it looks like the last bus to M'Mac leaves Robina at 4.55 pm. Perhaps you would be better living in Robina near the rail transport then you could use the train for Coomera http://www.airtrain.com.au/products_goldcoast.php.

Hi Rebecca, I don't live in Merrimac but have friends who do and they like it and from what they have said, they have never had any problems with public transport in getting to and from Robina. One of the friends was also commuting with a 2 year old in a pushchair. I don't know what time the buses stop running of an evening but perhaps this will help ; http://translink.com.au/?gclid=CKe1vZK5vrICFQUipQodmTEAgQ this is the website for Gold Coast transport. Your daughter travelling to Coomera might be more of a hassle but she could perhaps get the bus to Robina or Nerang and then the train onto Coomera. Also the 15 & 17 year old could cycle, there's plenty of cycle ways and paths around. Hope this helps.
