jamesnparry
We are hoping to head for the sunshine coast on a 457. Been offered a job but only a salary of $60k 2 kids and only one wage initially. Is it impossible or doable if we are careful?
RockDr
which state? If it's one of the states where you have to pay for state schools on a 457 then you're going to struggle... otherwise it'll be tight, but if you're happy managing your budget, should be doable. would be equivalent to living off about GBP 27k in the UK. RockDr
sorry missed that, clearly time for bed. don't think there's any school fees in QLD, but property might be slightly more expensive on sunshine than in other parts. try looking at realestate.com.au to get an impression of housing costs, and the rule of thumb of no more than a third of income spent on accommodation is generally a pretty good one. jhampa
you can find some cheap rentals on sunshine coast. I would think its not impossible until you both find work. Where exactly are you looking to move to ? I know the sunshine coast relatively well.

Alaska
Probably depends on how long for. Also on a 457, we don't get any childcare rebates so childcare cost a lot more than if you have PR or are a citizen. I would say it's doable if you get a very cheap rental and it's only short term and you have some top-up money, but would be really really tough for any length of time. jhampa
you could look in Nambour area, might find a cheap rental and commute.
Guest tandcmum
is that a nursing job? if hubby works shifts then you will find that the wage will be a bit more thna the basic salary as the penalties are usually quite good (private companies can vary) You wont have a lot of spare cash but on my one nursing wage we were able to rent a brand new 4 bed house, buy a nice new car on finance and still have enough money for all the other uilities, food etc and still a bit spare for treats. Not sure on sunshine coast prices tho, Townsville can be a bit cheaper for rentals.
Guest tandcmum
sorry misread your post, thought you had written hubby been offered a job....sorry
Rupert
How does it compare to current salary? How badly do you want to move? You would be on a very tight budget with not much room for treats, that might be acceptable to you if there are other reasons for going. But don't think you would get here and be living in a spacious house with a pool by the sea.
