  1. Great, thanks for that. He tried Hays but didn’t really get anywhere. Will try and contact the couple you mentioned. Sometimes it does make you think of just getting another job to make the money, but the worry is would he then want to go back to the learning and e-profiling later down the line after being here a while and being older, it’s unlikely. So will just persevere for now to get this qualification somehow! Hopefully a bit of luck comes along as well as being in the right place at the right time!
  2. We used Seven Seas Movecube from the UK to Australia. We only had a small cube, all went smoothly.
  3. Very true. We have to just keep trying.
  4. Hello, looking for some help/advice if possible. My husband is an electrician, we came out to Adelaide from England six months ago and he has been doing his context gap training through Tafe (Tonsley campus) to convert his UK qualification over to the full A Class Australian one. He worked for about four months on a casual basis for an electrical company but is now out of work. He has tried numerous avenues to find an electrical company to get a job. Has tried; Phoning Emailing Replying to adverts online (even though most adverts are only asking for A class electricians) Going into wholesalers and asking. Going into company offices to ask. Asked the Tafe tutors for advice. Asked people on his course and the small number of people we know if they have any contacts. Asked Immigration SA for advice. Finding it pretty much impossible to find a company who will take someone on who isn’t officially fully qualified here yet, not too sure if many companies actually take on people doing the gap training as they just see it as hassle. He only has about five months left till he would have completed it, but his e-profiling is on hold now until he is back doing electrical work. It’s a catch twenty two situation as he can’t qualify and get a higher wage until the course is completed, but he can’t find a company to work for to actualy be able to complete the course. He is 33, has over ten years experience in the UK, predominantly commercial, maintenance and testing. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
  5. Beach areas I would say Grange/Henley and Brighton/Seacliff or a bit further down Hallett Cove (but more of a stoney beach) Away from the beach just from where we have seen Unley/Norwood or out Belair way. The train line (Seaford line) goes down to Seaford so bear that in mind if you want easier access into the city. Some beach towns don’t have train or tram stops. Maslin beach is by far the most picturesque beach we have found along this coast area without going too far out from the city. Nice to visit but too quiet and lack of facilities to live there I think. The far end of it is signed off as nudist but you don’t need to go that far along and whenever we have been there have never really noticed people using that section. Brighton High School is meant to be one of the better public schools I have been told. We have only been here six months.
  6. We started doing my husband’s visa (489 Electrician) but after doing the English test and the Vetassess skilled documentation check we made an error and the check got rejected, so we had to resubmit and pay again before moving onto the practical part. After that we went with an agent (Concept Australia) to do the EOI, SA State part and the main visa application. It took the pressure off and gave us peace of mind that we hadn’t missed anything to cause a rejected outcome. It’s an extra cost but I would say worth it. My husband tried PTE a couple of times but found this difficult (he is dyslexic). He switched to IELTS and passed it first time and found it a better style test for him. From the start to receiving our visa is was a two year process. But the final stage of submitting the main application after SA sponsored us was 3.5 months, so we were pretty lucky for that final part.
  7. £30,000 - 35,000 I would recommend for everything. Rental places only seem to come with an oven and sometimes a dishwasher from what we found. We brought a car a couple of weeks after arriving and found manual was a bit cheaper as everyone seems to prefer automatic here.
  8. We used movecube and had the medium boxes to fill up the small movecube. I had two plastic boxes with books and work stuff in which we put at the bottom and cardboard boxes on top. When it arrived the plastic lids had broke so I wouldn’t recommend those at the bottom if you have them. One thing we wish we brought with us was numerous English extension leads. As it would have made our life a lot easier than changing numerous plug heads, we could have just changed the main one on the extension lead.
  9. This is an interesting read, thanks for sharing your journey. Good luck with your route across into SA.
  10. Hey, the move over went well. After the first six weeks in Airbnb we have now ended up living in Hove, Adelaide.
  11. We went through Concept Australia, the London office. My husband is an electrician and they did his 489 visa fine in 2019.
  12. It would be great to meet up, we also do not know anyone there.
  13. Hello, my husband and I (age 33 & 35) are moving out to Adelaide on 8th Jan on a 489 visa and we are very excited. Currently living in Hertfordshire/Essex area. Might be difficult for us to meet up with anyone beforehand due to having a hectic last week or so before we leave, but happy to meet up when out there if possible.
