  1. Bank account opening, do they accept a lease and UK Drivers Licence as forms of proof of address? Was thinking if they do wouldn't have to wait for a Utility bill?
  2. I'm not sure why Dennyboy had to 'prove' his address? I recently applied for our ToR All I did was put a relatives address (white lie as not actually staying there) sent packing list, copy of passport, my current lease from Australia and a simple Cover letter explaining moving back after being here since 93. Intended to look for work on arrival. 5 days later I got my number. Maybe I got lucky? or maybe not, who knows? But I can't say I have seen anyone else have an issue with having to prove/confirm UK address? Once I have a rental I'll be telling the shipping company and that will be that. Everything else is done once you get back. As British Citizens you can essentially just walk back in.
  3. Oh I am , there's loads was just wondering how long the process takes (here it's go view, apply, get approved, pay, pick up keys) usually in a couple of days.
  4. I opened a moneycorp account, I was thinking about transferring from ING to UK account once open, but yes silly me.. dear me, my brain these days. My regular NAB requires the SMS thing when I add a new payee or biller basically, not for online shopping or in store. So I would assume ING is the same. I do know though that NAB accepts an overseas number though. Righto, so when I do want to transfer the bigger sums to a UK account I shall go from bank to moneycorp to UK. Got it! Thanks again Marisa x
  5. Well in that case definitely seek counselling, sounds a lot more deeper than just moving to another country. At least then you'll know whether your relationship can be saved or not.
  6. Realistically how long should/could it take to secure a rental property in the UK? Just wondering how long to book temp accommodation for
  7. Hmm upon investigation, Apparently ING don't do overseas direct transfers, have to use a third party, how ridiculous And apparently for some purchases they require a code sent via sms but will only accept an Australian Number. I'm not planning on taking my crappy Optus with me as I'll be getting a UK sim, what a poop! I think I might just switch to my own banks version it's $10 per month but you earn back with cashback anyway. At least I know it will actually work!
  8. That's great information and very reassuring. Any tips aside from Ofsted reports, some are years out of date to finding a 'good' school?
  9. Good Idea, to be honest the HSBC app is crap and confusing. Will get onto ING
  10. Just putting this here... It's true (I also need reminding lol)
  11. Oh, duh! I didn't even think of it that way regarding HSBC. I'll just have to see what NAB's daily transfer limits are I suppose. Yes 28 days for Real Estate as we are now on periodic Great idea regarding Notebook, thanks x Yes Flights I know Accommodation will look at Air BnB and B&B's see which We can get for best price.
  12. This post is just me getting my thoughts out... So we were originally going to head back in January, but then Mum ended up in Hospital and 2 weeks just went by and then it occurred to us we have Xmas/New Year to deal with and Xmas closures and what not, and got ourselves into a bit of flap. So we had a chat and decided to give us another month. Breathe! So we decided on mid Feb. I later realised funnily enough that we arrived in Australia back in 1993 on the 16th Feb. Maybe it's a sign? LOL Anyhoo while the anxiety subsided back then, it is now creeping it's ugly head in again, I know it's normal, I know! Flipping between anxiety, are we doing the right thing, will we be OK, is it the right decision... to excitement and happiness and everything in between. I go to bed and fall asleep fine, but keep waking up multiple times thinking about things to do, will be OK, what if, shit did I do that? Bloody hell Brain, shut up already! Stop over thinking things. If only! I'm sure my mum went through similar when we came here all those years ago, and I guess we are lucky now as we have the Internet, forums and what not so I can at least ask questions, research and what not, she didn't have all that. Brave woman! Or maybe it was better that way? Just decide, get on a plane and voila! Who knows? If she did it back then, I'm sure I/we can do it now. Back then I was just a teen going with the flow, pissed off at having to leave my Friends etc, but now as an adult oof! Stressful At least my kids are excited unlike me back then. To Do - Not in order Sell/give, donate/throw more crap Sell Car Book MoveCube Flights Find/Book temporary accommodation (Have to find somewhere not too expensive, hahaha yeah right!) Notify Real Estate mid Jan / Get written reference (Hopefully) (Have ledger from rental many moons ago as well, wouldn't give a reference booo!) Sort out Aussie Bank account - Notify three times I'm going overseas, I don't want my card blocked - change address/get statement posted Some point transfer some to Money wise then my HSBC global (Think that's how you do it?) keep some in Aus for bills/bond return and what not Cancel everything bill/subscription wise Hand in keys to real estate. Leave Arrive Pass out from Jetlag? *Probably forgetting something, No doubt it will be remembered at 3am at some point in the future.
  13. Great Info thank you. LOL Scouse brows, I assume they are similar to Instagram brows, with the full lips (I call them fish lips) and yes fake tan and Snap chat filters, well I can assure you and your daughter it is the same in Australian High schools well from what I have seen walking around my area hehe. Not all the girls of course, and probably more over there but I can see it catching on here. I remember when I came to School here, there was a group of about 10 girls who were the 'popular' group and they would literally sit in class slapping on the make up with a trowel mind, and they got away with it. The one time I went to School with nail polish on I got a bloody detention! LOL. Anyway if your daughter can miss a full year and still do well, I guess I can relax a little I'll just have to hope a school has space it seems, what on earth happens if there are none? In Aus they have to accept locals as they have to be in School between 6 and year 10. Interesting. Funny you should mention accents, my eldest can't wait to get a British one he says, I shall have to report back once we have been there a while to see if he does indeed pick one up. He can do a mean Scottish accent already, I'm actually impressed. LOL. Thank you for replying, much appreciated and fingers crossed my boys can transition with ease too.
  14. Oh right, There seems to be Schools run by business/parent investor types now too? I went to a Grammar school back in the day, which was Government funded. Perhaps it is a name change then? Independent are the equivalent to Private here in Aus is my understanding? Oof!
  15. My eldest is 12 and just finished year 6 here in Aus (aka Primary school) he is quite the achiever and ahead of his peers in a lot, so I'm not too worried about him, although when we move in Feb the school year is going to be almost over which is freaking me out a bit. I don't know how that will play out, his Brother is 11 so I would assume he would be put back a year? Is an Academy school expensive? Having been to School in the UK myself and have to admit I am totally lost with all the different school types over there now That was another of my concerns, History being educated in Australia of course til now. I have read that UK schools are good at catching up kids though, I just wonder how true that is and how it works? Do they get extra homework or is it an in class thing? How did your kids go in terms of being 'foreign' with other kids? Another worry of mine is being bullied like I was coming from the UK to an Australian School when I was 15
  16. No worries, they are fab option when you don't need a whole container. Happy to help ETA: I too have more boxes now, 15 to be precise LOL But I can't imagine it would be much more than that quote.
  17. It certainly does, just check redbook for what your car is worth age/km's my car has done a lot less than average, dealers yes need to make a profit to sell your car but shouldn't let them go to low, they also use redbook as a guide as part of their offer too (as well as condition/rego left and history etc) go in armed
  18. I'm going with MoveCube (seven seas) simply because cheaper option given I'm not taking any furniture. They have small medium and large 'boxes' that they then put in with other shipments in a container. You can do a dummy quote to get an idea of price on their website To give you an idea 10 regular size moving boxes, + 2 small adult (kids) mountain bikes was $800 ish You can use your own packing boxes or they can provide some, as long as they are proper packing boxes, they will repack stuff it says in terms and conditions if not, (i don't know how nit picky they are?) I would assume as long as the box is sturdy, oh and each box filled can't be over 30kg. Hope that helps eta: Just checked my email quote was 2 Adult's bicycle (28x157x87cm) 10 Standard Box (51x41x31cm) $897.18
  19. Yes, definitely do not allow them to go alone.
  20. Hi there, I'm 41 and Mum moved us here in 93 when I was just turned 15, almost 27 years here and we (Myself, Mum and my two Children who are 11 and 12) are heading back in February. We originally came from the south which is super dooper expensive now, so we are heading back North this time, and will see how it goes, we can always move if we don't like it. British Passports and ours were all new applications( Kids and I, Mum already had one of course) and they only took 2 weeks from documents being received to being in my hot hands. Australian Passports for my kids took slightly less time. If you are shipping any goods over you will need to apply for Transfer or Residence (ToR) This gives you a unique number to use with your shipping company so you don't pay VAT on your 'imports' it is valid for 12 months from date of arrival. Can be used for multiple shipments (if so required) and also for any pets? you may fly over. I recently applied and it only took 5 days to get approval (they say it can take up to 14 days and can be longer if they have a back log) so I was well chuffed with that. I didn't do anything fancy either, I had already started packing so all I did was create an excel spreadsheet, listed each box number and each contents, but not super specific, just 20 x dvds, 10 x towels, 15 x kids books etc... I did specify used, and the only thing I put a proper value on was my kids bikes and my PC. The rest being things like ornaments, nick knacks etc I just put a low or 0 value. It is better to state you have more stuff rather than less, eg the 20 dvds, if they do check your box and there is 30 well you will pay tax on those, but if you state 20 and only take 10, no drama. Oh and if you have more stuff after applying for ToR don't worry as long as it's all listed on the shipping company list at the time of moving, no drama. Like I said you can use it multiple times over 12 months so the one you send HMRC initially is certainly not final. Due to their email limit of 6mb I highly recommend doing what I did, scan all required docs (mine was the excel sheet, copy of passport and copy of current lease and tor form) and pop them all in one PDF document. It came in at just about 5.3mb and the email was accepted with an auto response. Just some more admin for you hehe.
  21. Fair enough, I'm tech savvy, but yes not worth the hassle. TV's are pretty cheap these days anyway, unless you want the latest 4k OLED
  22. Apparently all you need to do is set TV region to Germany and it will work in Australia? https://www.perthpoms.com/topic/13296-will-my-uk-tv-work-in-australia/
  23. All good, my brain is mush. I need to stop over thinking things... some how
