    Hi folks,

I was under the impression that as of August 11th I would be able to apply for citizenship. However when going through the initial application page I get a message saying "Based on information held on Departmental systems the applicant does not meet the general residence requirements."

I arrived in March 2015 on a Holiday Visa, got a Bridging Visa for a 457 in November 2015 and was granted the 457 in January of 2016. I was granted Permanent residency on August 12 2019. My belief was that as of August 11 I would have met the criteria of 12 months as a PR and had 4 years in the country.

The only reason I can think of where I do not meet the general residence requirements is that when swapping from a 457 to a partner visa, my 457 was cancelled, and I had to reapply for a bridging visa E to stay in the country in Sept 2017. Looking at this info, is anyone able to give advice as to when I would meet the general residence requirements?

You are/were eligible on the 12/August. That is your PR anniversary date.

With restrictions now being gradually eased across the country, can anyone confirm if the immigration offices are now resuming oral and written citizenship testing? I'm due to submit my application next month

Wondering the same. Hopefully they do, as now most places are able to have gatherings of 20 people.

    Fingers crossed.

Hi Kaz, can you please guide me regarding the form 1195 as how did you submit your newborn photo as the requirement says needs to be identity declared, as who has done this for your child, kindly advise

The Maternal and Child Health Nurse can do this for you, MCH from your local council.

I did the same a year ago with my baby's MCH nurse.

    Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what i need:

my second child born before we become citizen of Australia. So second child doesn’t have any citizenship certificate because we couldn’t include him at the time of our citizenship application due to newly born baby.

Now after becoming citizen we are applying for passport of this second child with us. Is second child automatically citizen or i have to apply for the evidence of citizenship?

    Fact to consider:

    Citizenship application 26/09/2019

    baby born 28/12/2019

    Citizenship 04/03/2020.

Apply for evidence of citizenship. It takes 1-4 business days to be approved. Easy!

They will send you the Au certificate

I have two children, and my wife, due to having no valid overseas passports we did a paper application (faster than some online applications) the CO stated a valid passport was not required, maybe you had insufficient evidence to your child hence they asked you. Passports are not a compulsory required ID for citizenship.

Noup, all paperwork provided, just wanted an up to date passport. That was the only request, never mentioned if insufficient. If CO requests it, I cannot say otherwise.

@Nora I wish it was that easy - I don't have such an option. Unless you're referring to within an actual application (I have a bunch of applications in my account)?

    Am I missing something?

Yes within your actual application. Click on your name (View details) or even click on the button next to it that says "Update details". If you click on view details of your application, you will see (the current application), and you will see

You can provide updated information to the department using the links below.

    Hey guys

Possibly a "noob" question here but I'll rather be safe than sorry.

I have previously mentioned that I got my son a new updated passport (even though his current one is still valid) as it's expiring at the end of the year and getting a passport from S.A is a mission (to say the least).

Now, I want to update the passport details but wanted to confirm that this is done on the immi page, under the finalized PR application right?
    - I'm assuming then, that would mean in time the PR would be attached to both his old and new passport?

Just wanting to make sure I update the right stuff here and being "finalized", wanted to make sure my thinking was correct?

Login to your immi account, and on the left you will see the tab the says "Update details", click on it and then it will ask you what do you want to update i.e. name, address, passport.

of course they are all opinions, but you cant give false info, ie need 6 months on a passport or a valid one etc, I am speaking from my personal, we had no valid passport and was no issue what so ever.

Well like you, you cannot say that you don't need it, because in my personal experience that is false; as I did need one valid bc case officer requested one for my child (5yold). If the case officer asks for one...oh well. If he doesn't ask for one, good on ya!

The link you posted is for passport applications, not citizenship applications. These are completely two different things that are managed by two different departments.

Anyways, @Want2BeOZ it is best not to take advice from people (including myself) on the Internet. Give DoHA a call to get a definite answer.

It was just a reference for you guys to see that for some processes they require the passport to be valid for another 6 months when submitting an aplication or travelling.

But the best advice you have given is to take advice from the experts and calling DHA.

    Peace

you need to stop  with the false  information being given on here.  as I said to the other poster, expired passports are ok. there is plenty of id they can have. a s a 14 year old, they would be attached to a parents application so, they could use a Birth Certificate, Medicare card, school enrollment etc.... what has applying for a Aus passport got to do with an overseas passport for a citizenship application.

As mentioned, it is used as a reference for all dependencies. I was required to submit valid passport for my child, so there you go. We all go through different experiences. And as mentioned, the person will do whatever suits him/her best. This is a forum to dialogue and share experiences, otherwise just have it shut down and go and call DHA for everything. Jesus! Don't need to throw all your attitude at me.

My friend applied for citizenship in 2019 and his passport expired in 2011.

He never renewed his international passport while his citizenship application was in progress.

He faced no issues and he became Australian in Oct 2019.

I have no idea how some people are saying you have to have a current passport! Is this stated in DoHA website? I highly doubt it is as it directly contradicts my friend's experience.

Look it up and you will see. If they are asking for documents, obviously they want it to be valid. Your friend is just one case of how many? At the end of the day, the person will do what suits him best.

Fyi https://www.passports.gov.au/passports-explained/how-apply/eligibility-citizenship-and-identity/documents-confirm-your-australian use it as a reference for all dependencies and applications.

    Better safe than sorry.

    Does anyone know the following:

We plan to apply for citizenship with a teenager (14yo) whos overseas passport is going to be expired a month prior to the application is going to be lodged.

Is a valid passport a requirement? We cannot currently replace the existing overseas passport as there is no Embassy nearby.

Just submit the application with the 'about to expire' passport. And if needed, the case officer will request an up to date/valid passport in due time.

But when you can, get on to it, think that eventually you will need one while you case is being processed, and because it is a form of identification it MUST be valid.

So upload the passport while still valid and then upload a new one.

    Good luck!
