Been pretty quiet on here lately. Hell of a lot going on. Sold the house for starters. Thought I would cash in whilst I can with the uncertainty going around.
Still patiently waiting. 3 months is relatively a short period I guess, but it's starting to feel like forever now. Fingers crossed us November/December folk hear something very soon.
Congrats on the sale of the house! I've no plan to sell until we have a visa. The waiting is crazy, but you never know whats around the corner. You could get a grant at anytime because they are so random when selecting cases. I feel like I could be the last one to be granted.

Good Morning or is it Afternoon for you guys? I just woke up and see we were voting for a way to stay in touch outside of Poms. I feel most comfortable with Facebook messenger . I've never used WhatsApp. Sorry for the late reply but with the time difference it can be tricky.

Yes, that is what I did.
I can see on the Victoria list of skilled occupations for nomination, it says you need registration or reg in principle, which means AHPRA first.
South Australia currently has special conditions, but when they reset in June/July this last time, those conditions went away for a few months at least.

1. @JetBlast was spot on in his reply.
2. If it was done less than 24 months ago - YES
3. Can you have more than 1 active skills assessment ...
-
On the main page of the ACS Skills assessment page, it says:
"Please Note: Only one application can be active at any one time." -
In the FAQ section, it specifically says however that you can have more than one assessment completed, and still valid.
"Holding more than one suitable assessment outcome will not invalidate any of the previous result letters provided they are still within the 24-month validity period. "

My last post appears to be hidden so apologies if this comes up twice:
Thanks, everyone for your well wishes!
If it's a direct grant, then I can't see how our flat sale would go through before the grant arrives. If there's any CO contact then who knows, but always with the crossed fingers.
Speaking of direct grants, I saw another on the 489 tracker that came through today
21st November - 117 day wait. Definitely looks like they are back on track to process grants in November now they're doing better with the backlog. Sophie thinks we'll get the grant on 1st April - will see........ I'm literally checking the tracker and the SA spreadsheet three or four times a day at the moment to see if there's any updates.
@Manbo fingers crossed for you too, although the a 2 month grant seems unlikely. I think around the 4 month mark is currently a good basis to work from.
April fools, hoping ours comes in by then too...

though wife is already based in Sydney. Looking forward to meeting all of you.
2 months does seem a little short, but if they get through the backlog in a hurry who knows what might happen.

Work have also offered to keep my job open in the UK for 12 months should it all go wrong.
That's awesome of your employer to keep it open for you, not too many would do that. Here's hoping everything is smooth sailing and you don't need to use that life-line.

A few people have created a second EOI and have been successful. You will just have to prove your loyalty to the state that chooses to sponsor you. I started out with NSW and didn't get anywhere, so I decided to change completely and go for South Australia. Someone else on here went with Victoria and was successful. We were both RN's with 65+5.

The point, I think, is that if you get the visa, arrive, and then AHPRA says your qualifications aren't sufficient to get registration, what will you do?
That's exactly the point. If I could not get my AHPRA registration I would not have gone one step further. Once I knew I had my registration I felt that Australia was a viable option.

Hi all, loving the thread and hope one day to meet you on the beach for a beer. Myself and my husband have decided on SA for a state sponsorship (hopefully) we are very early in the process and undecided between the 489 or the 190
489 visa gives us 70 points, 190 gives us 65, we're worried 65 may not be enough for 190 by the time we apply.
We have two children aged 15 & 11 (16 & 12 by the time we move, after eldest has done her GCSE's)
my husband is an electrician and the main applicant and I'm a critical care nurse although I am not currently working as a nurse and I doubt I will be when we emigrate as I have CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) we have had this looked into by a medical team who feel my condition will not have any affect on our visa application.
Very excited to be starting the process and its great reading how far some of you have come and how exciting some of you are moving in the next few months.
Welcome to the thread! Good luck on your state sponsorship, I found that part of the process relatively easy and somewhat enjoyable. After applying for the visa, waiting for the case officer contact or a visa grant is just awful. That's where some of us are sitting at the moment.
Keep us posted on your progress!

Pls does a UK citizen need English exam for assessment and migration to Australia as a mental health nurse
Everyone else here gave you information about the passport being good enough for the English requirements for the visa (if you need more points then you will need to take the test). For registration as a nurse with AHPRA you will need your education to have been taught and assessed in English. If your education is from the UK you are fine but if not you will possibly need an English exam.
There are some good threads on Poms that will give advice about getting your AHPRA registration.

So my husband and I have decided to join our good friends in Cairns. Im a paediatric nurse and he’s works construction. I think things have changed a lot since my friends sister moved out as a midwife 8years ago.
I am interested to find out which I should do first, apply for visa, which I believe will be a 189, or apply for my registration so I can apply for jobs 1st!?
Personally, I would go for your AHPRA registration first. This can take a while, and depending on number of schools, where they were located, taught in english, etc. can take a bit to go through.
There is not much point in going further down the process, until you know you are going to get registration, or what is required before you can get it.
Once you have your registration, a modified or modified plus skills assessment from ANMAC does not take too long, and is not too complicated ( i believe it takes longer for a full assessment - than a modified one).
As for husband, should be no problem with him coming along. Might need a recent english test, depending on country of passport, to prove functional english.
Also, in order to claim 5 points for him - his occupation must be on the same skills list as yours (long term, medium long term, etc.) and he needs a valid skills assessment.
If you do not need the points from him, then no need for any of that except english.

I am not sure where I want to go yet. I have been looking at North Adelaide but that will be in a flat or some time. I have been looking at areas west of the city.
Are there any "rough" areas in Adelaide to avoid please?
I hear you have to be careful north of Adelaide such as Elizabeth park.

Yeah, I'll def keep my eye on it now, we were reading how Mount Gambier is the Ice Capital of Australia which was a bit off putting so we are looking at a few suburbs in Adelaide as well ... Moana seems to have alot of new builds and development and a disney feel! haha
If only we could get the visa grant through or even some case officer contact! we could better move forward with plans... meh!Funny you mentioned the ice capital of Australia because we read about that a few months back. We considered Mt Gambier but have decided that Adelaide would offer all of us more opportunities. We would like to rent for a year and then get a feel for the areas. Ideally we would like a large block possibly near/ in the hills.
Yes, a grant would help.

This link explains the current first home owner grants by state. It appears the grants can change at any time so staying update on what is available is recommended. This information is dated Jan 2019.Thanks Jenki, seems to me that we could still qualify for this even though we are home owners in the UK. might be worth taking a look at some new builds in SA!
I think we would be considered first time home buyers as it would be our first home in Australia. If you find out otherwise please let me know. Are you thinking about Mount Gambier or Adelaide area?

I believe you can only get the grants on a 189 or 190, 489 don’t get the grants
Jellica and I are applying for 190 visa's, so that's right they are available to us.

Thanks for the insight, this is all very helpful, does anyone know what kind of reliefs you can get from stamp duty?

I have also obtained a British passport for my Canadian born oldest child recently. I am born and raised British, moved to Canada on a PR and I obtained Canadian citizenship. Her father is Canadian. She was eligible for citizen by descent.
The whole process only took a month from applying to having the passport in hand.

2017/2018 Migration Program Stats, and why some people wait a while
in Visa Chat
Posted
As you can see from the information above, Those hoping for an Employer Sponsored Grant, or Family Grant might have to expect to wait a while due to the number of applications that were in the pipeline at June 30, 2018, compared to the number of people they invited over the entirety of the 2017/2018 migration program for that category.
Also helps to explain why State and Territory seem to be going slow - they had over 50% of the number of invites they give out in an entire year - still waiting at the start of the 2018/2019 migration year.
I guess they need to clear those backlogs first, other than the odd lucky few that get quick grants from current year.
I wish their report had more details of all the categories and numbers waiting in the pipeline, as well as numbers by state/territory, but did the best I could with what I found.
Thought some others might find it interesting.
