  1. You are correct re my wife ( have already looked into this) and her job but with that said she has said she wouldn't go back to teaching ( she is now a head teacher). I think I read somewhere and this was a year or ago that although over subscribed now within 4/5 years this would level out. As said above this would not atm be an option for my wife. She has said she would like to try something new which sounds pretty good to me. In terms of buffers of cash we have always used our kids savings if ever we needed loans etc here as my mom and dad ( who have given them most of their money) had always told us to. Better to be paying the kids interest than the banks ?. At last look that was in the region of 50k. Jesus you all know my ins and outs now lol. As said the likely hood is I would have a job to go to .
  2. Ahh I remember your response to me before re not believing that I could emigrate without a degree and I pointed out that wasn't the case in my industry. You seemed to have commented again on post with a fairly negative repost. I suppose anyone can see the negatives but I'm asking for the positives in this case. Firstly am 90% sure that your advice re career experience is not correct and believe the answer above yours was more pertinent. I'm a man who plans everything and budgets for everything, always have and always will and as we are off on 3 relatively expensive holidays in the next 12 months and as previously stated I would be starting the process in my early 40's ( 38 atm)would negate the need for me to truly bust the bank by sticking some agents fees on a credit card ( something i rarely use) until I truly needed too so thought I would come on this lovely site for people's kind advice. In terms of research done on the move I've covered all costs that I believe I will need but just to reassure you again; We will have £1800 in excess income a month in 2019. I will due to my profession be getting a job out there whilst in the UK unless we move to my more favoured location of WA in which case it may be slightly more risky. I'm hoping for an upturn in the economy which people within my profession tell me there will be in 2019 ( at least within rail anyway) and I have started seeing a number of design offices opening in Perth this year. The job I will have does pay between $100k -$125k a year. A number of companies have been known to fly family's out and accommodate them for up to 4 weeks in the past but if not I have priced flights for my family at £4800 ( they were the slightly more expensive Emirates ones as we would all love to go on the a380). Not costed up the removals but have seen ball park figures of upwards of 10k for the entire process ( yes I know it can be more ). Equity in my house by then would be between £200-300k. I'm blessed by house prices rising sharply due to hs2 arriving down the road . My favoured place to settle would be mindarie where decent sized houses with pools go from $500k +. House prices have fallen in WA due to the economic downturn. We may also use some of the equity from our home as spare cash yes but (I know this is a guessing game) with the pound sliding the right away against the dollar (1.8) last time I looked it is approaching the heady days of my whv in oz in 2001 (2.3). I know Brexit may scupper stuff slightly but as said it would be a guessing game. In terms of people not being 100% and I'm sure we have had this conversation before my wife has said she doesn't want to stay in the uk but as you rightfully point out I know ideally she wouldn't want to move until her parents were not around. However she tells me that as long as we have the cash to fly back should anything happen she is good to go. Teenage kids are a different story entirely , my kids atm are 4 & 8 so I may have been over egging the teenage bit but my daughter won't be far off. Luckily for them their parents make the decisions and as most kids do they will adapt and we being the parents will be safe in the knowledge that we've made the right lifestyle choice for them. Not sure whether you have made the move yourself but really hope your not in the planning stage as your negatives really seem to out weigh the glorious positives. If you are in the planning stage then give it a go as what's the worst that can happen ? A move back ? Another 10-20 k squandered? Disney land is costing me 10k alone in April without the spending money ( expensive holidays are perks of the wife's job)
  3. Have a bit of a dilemma, I currently work in an area of the railway that allows for me to gain access to Australia under the skilled migrants route however I have been offered the chance of a job in planning which I can't find on the skills list ( I may be looking in the wrong place). The job would allow career progression with the firm I work for where as my current job doesn't ( dead mans shoes as people put it ) but as mentioned does allow for entry into oz. The reason I got into the job I do was for migration purposes. Im looking at starting the process for migration next year with the help of an agent. I'm wondering what other options are available to me . We are a family of four. My wife and I will both be in our early 40's. My wife is a head teacher with bed hons , senco and mpqh. I am not degree educated but am licensed in my job which is a stipulation within the job details on the skills list. Kids will be early teens. Have considered contacting an agent but have not got the money to employ one until May next year and am not sure whether they offer anything on tick :).
  4. Apologies as you did only tell half the story and did sound like a spoilt brat but with that second part of the story I feel sorry for you. Can you not speak to them because by the sound of it you may end up falling out with each other? Take it your oh is frustrated with them also? You certainly created a bit of a storm on here lol but it's entertaining. Im hoping if and when we finally do make the move my mom n in laws do visit as often as possible but after reading this forum am a little worried
  5. I feel sorry for your in laws and your other half . Surely people have the right to reply if you choose to comment on a public forum
  6. what does your husband do for network rail and where? We are always looking for designers with signalling experience
  7. Thanks for the kind advice . However luckily for me I have a bit more of a grasp on my industry and the sol list. My trade is and has been on the list for a number of years under electrical engineer and as said before my trade is rare as rocking horse poo globally. I'm not needing a degree either just professional registration which again is luckily what I have. My wife has always known since she met me that i don't see my / our future in the uk and she has said she doesnt see it here also although for her Canada is also an option . I believe I have answered all three of your points. thanks again though. Oh and my wife is a head teacher and I'm assuming that will stand us in good stead although as I like to do my homework I know Australia has an abundance of primary teachers at the mo
  8. Hi there, funnily enough I re trained on the railway to get into oz. I'm still not there as need to convince the wife and in terms of time I'm 36 and figure we have a few years left. Wife says she would move but in a few years time. I left a fairly decent job to retrain with invensys rail as a signalling designer. Rubbish money but as many people say they are as rare as rocking horse s%%t and the role is always on the list. I now work for network rail in brum and have not done a degree. Had to go through onc and hnc which was difficult as a more mature student with a young family but I got through. My only issue now is the place I loved most whilst travelling which was Perth don't seem to have a design base and the offices are on the east coast which in parts I enjoyed but in parts I could never see myself living.
