  1. Has anyone recently done the skills assessment for first class welder? My husband was a welder on the Railway for 9 years but has been out of it now for 6 years. We have been talking to an agent who said he would need to do the skills assessement. I have tried to find further information and it states that you need photographs etc of him doing welding. This would be impossible because obviously he doesn't do this job anymore. Really stuck on whether to take the chance and go for it and will it just be a waste of money if itsngoing to be very difficult and unlikely to pass. Any advice would be great
  2. I am after some advice... We have just returned from visiting my parents in qld and whilst there i was recommended a migration lawyer to discuss our visa options. I emailed him our situation.... Basically my husband works for Network Rail as a maintenance team leader. He did used to be a welder for them for 9 years and has certificates for MMA welding. He finished thst position 6 years ago. The lawyer has advised that there is a possibility he could do the skills assessment for 'first class welder' and then he would also need to get a pass mark of 8 on each band of the EILTS test to gain the 60 points required. My question really is.. What does the skills assessment involve? Does this sound like it is an option?. We have looked over the description for first class welder and it appears similar to his experience on the railway but obviously its been 6 years since he did it and it could be really different welding skills involved. Is it worth a shot or just a waste of money if the chances of passing are extremely slim. We are desperate to be with our family so just looking at any possible routes.
  3. He works in Cumbria and is a team leader on renewals, also 9 years welding experience for network rail. Do you work for Network Rail also?
  4. My husband has worked for Network Rail for 15 years so has quite a range of railway experience. Does anyone know if this occupation has ever been on the SOL list ?. I came accross an anzco code for it but it didn't say when it was on the list. i am living in hope that it may be a possibility that it comes back on as we deperate ro get out to oz :skeptical:
  5. To be honest I have never ever seen myself in a nursing proffession. I am just desperate to get out there and be with my family and will try anything to make that happen. Its just so difficult to know what to donand where to start.
  6. Hi, What is the typical cost for studying a 3 year nursing degree in Australia? I am willing to look at all options regardless of costs. I need to get there and be with my family. Thanks
  7. Can i ask what degree you did?. I am really worried that this could happen to me
  8. Hi i have just joined this forum and looking for some advice. My parents, brother and sister all immigrated to queesland 9 years ago. I was already married and settled and never had the urge but now I am panicking that if I don't hurry up it will be too late. I work in sales and my husband works for network rail so neither of us are on the skills in demand list. My question is what would be best for myself to re train as? I was thinking nurse woukd be a good bet as it never seems to be short of demand. Has anyone actually spent years changing career just to get into oz?
