The processing date remained at 13th October 2014 as of yesterday.  It seems crazy that this time last year we were all hoping that things would pick up after 1st July 2016.  However on 18th May last year they were processing 14th May 2014.  So over a year later we have only moved on 5 months.  Surely, surely things should start to improve after 1st July this year - or is that too much to hope for?  We've decided that we can't wait to see our daughter and her family any longer so at least are planning a holiday over Christmas with them this year.  Hopefully it won't be too much longer after that before we get our visas through.

Pomsinoz newsletter received this morning tells you of the 355 less visa staff. Not looking good at all!

Thank you for posting this news.

We have used Qatar flights on two Australian trips and have been planing on a new booking for November.

Qatar have a lot at stake with this internationally, so I expect it will be sorted out before you fly.

But, I think we may now look at BA this time (see if they can loose our suitcase again)

Hopefully they will sort for me in time for  Xmas. However, my daughter is due home in 3 weeks via Qatar airways !

    Hi everyone,
My first post in the forum! So pardon me being all new to this :)
I'm currently in the process of preparing all the documents to apply for the CPV 143 for my mom.
I want to ask if both my partner and I can be her sponsors and if so, do we each have to fill out form 40?

    Many thanks,
    Nana

Sorry I can't remember. Think my daughter just sponsored me and then her partner signed the form in the part where  it says about him agreeing for her to do this.?

After all the kerfuffle with my passport renewal:

    1. Last Friday my online photos were rejected, so I needed to do it the old fashioned way.

    2. Got passport photos taken in Timpsons Saturday morning

    3. Local Post Office said they don't deal with passports

    4. The next Post Office said my photos were a millimetre "out" and might be rejected, but I took a chance anyway because I believed it would take 3 weeks to process.

    5. Online info said it takes 3 weeks to get the passport back.

    6. Received a text from Passport Office saying I would receive the passport by 21st June (cutting it fine as I move out on 22nd June).

    7. Passport arrived today!

That was another week of unnecessary stressing that I could have done without, but hey! I got my new passport!  Woohoo.

And finally, I've booked a small Movecube for the 21st June.  So that's another step further along the way.

Fab!  How much was it please?

Completely agree.  No point taking my large fridge/freezer, which wouldn't have been big enough to do the job in a hot climate where so much needs to go into the fridge.  Anyway, it went on ebay last summer and I've been making do with my smaller one, which I'll leave behind for my house buyers.  I'm taking very little with me and reckon to save thousands on shipping costs.  Added to that saving is the stuff I've sold already.  My total of ebay and private sales plus the stuff currently on sale or still to be sold, comes to about £5,000.  I've  also had my daughter in Aus pricing up a lot of the stuff I will need and I'm confident I can get it all at really good prices. But each to their own, people are sometimes attached to particular belongings, whereas furniture etc diesn't generally have any pull for me and I'm looking forward to a completely fresh start.  If I can fit it all into a Movecube, I will take a small but rather nice sideboard and two matching lamp tables, bedding, towels, pots and pans etc, printer and coffee maker, clothes, photographs.  That's it, and anything that won't fit will stay behind.

I'm opting for the granny annexe, as my daughter's plot has plenty of room for an annexe and it's a short walk from shops, restaurants etc, and 5 minutes drive from the beach.

Sounds perfect!! I think it is the silly little stuff that helps feel comfy like my years old sewing box, jewellery box, quirky items!

Have you had a quite for a movecube?

Unfortunately my daughter has recently moved away from the beach! ?So instead of a 3min walk it's a 20min drive now.

Also dont  forget that you also have no valid guarantee once you move those goods to Australia.  I did some research when I was last in Oz and found that, as in the UK, you can often find reasonably priced white goods if you shop around.  My daughter picked up a dishwasher at Aldi! Worth doing a google.au search in advance.  I tried this when looking for a fridge freezer ready for my apartment that I will be having there and I found a lot of reasonable options.

Exactly! No guarantee and a good shake of a fridge or a washer could damage them. On gumtree my daughter has had goods that are practically new. Like here you can buy a property where all the goods are included anyway. How do you know that space between the units is the right size for your imported fridge.  Gumtree is far more popular over there some real bargains to be had.

A friend sold her spare bedroom furniture which had been used about twice because she moved into a house with fitted wardrobes etc so another friend of mine then bought it at bargain price.

I am only taking personal possessions, clothes, favourite pictures, ornaments, bedding, towels, some kitchen stuff etc. I have done research, looked at prices on visits and of course will wait for the sales. I very rarely buy here at full price ?

To leave  big items over here/there in storage for months to me is a false economy,it's not cheap, and at monthly rate times for however long storage?

I am torn between my own home or granny annexe so, until I'm there, I won't know what I need.

They are more expensive here, but we have treated it a bit as a cost of moving.  Part of that has also been that we didn't know what our final home would end up as.

If you already own then bring, but I wouldn't go to the effort of buying new and importing if not already owned.

That said we paid AUD $900 for a fridge, freezer and washing maching from Aldi.  Fridge and Freeer are ok, but washing machine is useless!

Yes! That's the problem you don't know what type of home/size etc. All the appliances could be fitted ?

Anybody know the position regarding "new goods" not owned for 12 months?  Given the price of white goods in Australia, I plan to buy and have shipped a fridge/freezer (50/50 split very difficult to find in Aus, not to mention expensive) and a front loader washing machine (also very expensive in Aus); together probably with two or three small items.  I reckon in total under £1,000-worth here, but converted to AUS$ and their prices considerably more.  If I converted the value to say AUS$2,000 to $2,500, any idea what I'd be looking at in terms of tax/duty?

    Can only see this info

    https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/GST/In-detail/Rules-for-specific-transactions/International-transactions/GST-and-imported-goods/

    and this also

    https://www.thecurrencyshop.com.au/business/a-guide-to-importing-goods-into-australia

Value of goods by Customs is the equivalent cost to buy in Australia

Strange I was told white goods cheaper there! Also, you have to add cost of shipping and as you say tax. You need to be able to change the plugs also, some have a mounded plug attached.

    Hi All,

As we applied in Dec 2014 our projected 34 months is due October ( yeahhh) as per the immi site.

Is that projection a start date or completed by date , anyone know ?

we have heard nothing from anyone about AOS , medicals etc so looking at the dates with a squint if its going to be completed by then as its still showing a now processing date of 3rd October ... :/

Supposed to be for completion by 34mths. If you look at @Catlady2014 timeframe at bottom of her posts. Give you an idea of times when things have been lodged/competed etc.,  At least you are on the home run unlike a lot of us ?

Good luck to you all, I haven't started this process yet, but am reading all these posts its a minefield.   Our daughter and gran kids only moved out on the 15th May.   They have moved to Mount Eliza, Victoria and are loving every minute so far.    We will be traveling back and forth to visit until they have been there for the 2 years and we can apply to retire there.

I was interested in your posts saying you would bring your cars.....my husband has a weakness for a nice car and wondered what sort of costs would we be looking at to ship a car??  Never even crossed my mind to do this.   I will be watching this site carefully over years.   One other thing, does anyone recommend that I speak to an agent now or leave till the two years are up?

Think I would leave  it near the time. Visa's seem to be changing fast who knows what the waiting time will be and at what higher cost, which is highly anticipated. You could always message Alan Collett at Go Matilda, free first consultation I believe

I've not been asked anything so far about a visa Kathss56? Good point though and I'll call Pet Air tomorrow to double check. If there is an issue I'm sure my son would take ownership of them for me. I pretty sure you are able to purchase dogs / cats and have them shipped over so long as they go through the correct process. I'll find out and let you know!

I thought you'd decided to wait for your 143 Bry45......changed your minds?!

I've just signed to agree to the conditions on my 600 and will look to see what happens in November with the 3 year temp. We're visiting for a couple of weeks end of June and then when our dogs are ready to fly in November I'll be off!!!!

Can you take dogs over if you are going out on a 600 visa?

It is frustrating having to queue, then worst still is never knowing how long we will be queuing for.

But it’s not really fair to blame the immigration staff. They just work to a goverment “cap” which is currently at 7175 people (not applications) per year. And they simply work pro-rata, and process approximately 600 successful parents per month.

There was a recommendation in 2016 to reduce the ‘cap’, which could add years onto the processing time for 173 / 143 visas. (This is perceived as a good way to stop parents applying and save Australian taxpayers money)

Unfortunately it is just about politics and we are all at the mercy of The Hon Peter Dutton MP.

So as bad as it feels, I am just thankful to be in a 30-month queue. I fear it will be a lot worse for future applicants (and a lot more expensive).

But we all share your frustrations.

34mth queue now ? Nice to know we can go over on a 600 if needed, which they say officers are encouraged to grant ?
