  1. HI Have any of the following received their 2nd VAC requests yet? Ant111 MikeC Nicole Eire Trying to second guess who is likely to have their visa granted next.
  2. Hi I notice from your signature that you say you lodged your AOS online, how did you achieve this and does that mean that you did not need to visit the Centrelink office?
  3. The situation does appear to be somewhat confusing. In 2015, when we applied, the income level required for an assurer with spouse and child standing assurance for 2 adults was just over $46,000. Today using the Australian Government DHS AOS eligibility checker for a 143 visa the income level required is $120,665 - quite a jump. In both cases the bond seems to be $14,000 for 2 people. Is this new level for all applicants immediately or just for new applicants? Alan can you shed any light on this please.
  4. I would like to add 2 points to the debate: 1) My son arrived in Australia in his late 20s as a fully fledged doctor and started work straight away. Up to that point Australia had paid absolutely nothing towards his health care, education and medical training but started benefiting from them straight away. 2) I am currently doing a course with the Open University on ageing and despite common perceptions about "old people" being a drain on society, studies have shown that during their 3rd age people tend to be net contributors to society through volunteer work, taking lead unpaid roles within society as well as often helping out with child care etc. It is only when, and if, people enter the 4th age that they need significant help and support and can therefore be seen as a drain on society.
  5. Wonderful news Lorraine. At last some movement!! Have a great holiday in Bali and a best wishes for your future in Australia when you return to OZ.
  6. Hi Ian A conversation re one way travel insurance started on page 581 with Catlady and a number of suggestions were given. Hope this helps and you soon get sorted.
  7. Congratulations on the birth of your grandson, you must be delighted. Our granddaughter is now 13 months old and although Skype and photos keep us in touch we long to be fully a part of her life as I am sure you want to be with your grandson. Hopefully not too long now. I have a query about the AOS process that I hope someone will be able to answer for me. If the sponsor goes to Centrelink in person and provides proof of identity and proof of ability to be a sponsor why does there need to be a further phone call to the sponsor? It would appear that it is this part in the process that is causing the log jam. What further questions are asked during the phone call that cannot be dealt with at the original meeting?
  8. I believer that the following people have been contacted and are currently being "processed". Where are you currently in the process and are any of you anywhere near being asked for your 2nd VAC? FEB 2015 Ant111, Elnak MAR 2015 MikeC, Pertenhall, Nicole Eire, Rahul Shankar, IanS61 APR 2015 nyorksgrannie, Harris L16, Zaki After a flurry of activity at the end of last year, things seem to have gone awfully quiet.......
  9. Happy New Year to everyone, let's hope that the momentum from the end of 2017 continues into 2018 On recent updates from IMMI there has been a new section re on-line payments: NEW ONLINE PAYMENT OPTION IN IMMIACCOUNT You can make a payment for a paper application prior to lodgement or pay an invoice for a visa yourself via ImmiAccount http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Immi You must either have or create your own ImmiAccount. Once the payment is made, you can attach a copy of your receipt to your application. This seems to imply that payments for 2nd VAC can be made online. Has anyone used this yet? If so is it possible to make an online payment from an Australian bank account directly to IMMI, it would be so much quicker and less hassle if this is possible?
  10. Hi where did you get this rate from? I have not seen it go much above 1.78 in the last 24 hours.
  11. Also the sorting on dates still does not work, the date visa lodged looks very odd.
  12. We're all waiting with bated breath to see if the date moves on tomorrow.....
  13. Have any retirees who have moved to Oz and are now permanent residents had any difficulty in acquiring a credit card from their bank and did they have a lengthy waiting period before this was granted?
  14. At least we are currently seeing progress week on week after months of apparent inactivity earlier this year. Plus the 173 to 143 visas have progressed 11 days from 20 Oct 2016 to 31 Oct 2016 this week. Hopefully this momentum will continue.
  15. Bon Voyage Catlady. Hope you and your daughter have a good flight and very best wishes for your new life in Oz.
  16. Thank you for this. May I suggest that dates are sorted year/month/day so that, for instance, when looking at visa lodged date they are shown in processing date order. This would be far more helpful. Also there seems to be some inconsistency in the way that dates are being input eg for the 143 parent visa elnak's lodgment date is shown as 02252015 which I assume is 25 Feb 2015, but Kathss56 is shown as 17032016 which presumably should be 17 Mar 2016. This differing format is confusing and throws out the sorting process.
  17. Thank you for this, Alan. Disappointing that from an allowance of 7175 places only 6218 places were allocated. This is the smallest number of CPVs allocated since 2009/10, which is as far back as my data goes. Also in the previous 5 years, going back to 2011/12, the allocation has always been reached. I realise that there have been staff cuts and that parent visas will never be the highest priority, but only hope that the 2016/17 year was a glitch rather than a deliberate policy. Hopefully 2017/18 will see the allocation of 7175 reached once more. I don't suppose that the PVC are allowed to carry over the shortfall in allocation from one year to the next?
  18. Thank you for this, it was really helpful. We have now downloaded the form and are busy putting together and collecting the info required. We still have some time to go before we anticipate getting our visa but, as I am sure you found, this is not a 5 minute job and it would be nice to have it all in place before we finally set off for Oz.
  19. As it says in the heading "Last updated: 16 October 2017 (for month ending 30 September 2017)" so I am hoping that this reflects the slow pace in September when there was only 1 update. Hopefully October's figures will reflect the faster pace this month when published in November. Or am I just being optimistic.................
  20. I understand that UK state pensions are able to benefit from an 8% per annum allowance against Australian tax under the Undeducted Purchase Price (UPP) of foreign pensions arrangement. In addition to our UK state pensions, my husband and I each have UK occupational pensions. These were funded by ourselves and our employers. Our own contributions to these pensions were tax deductible at the time of contribution. Am I correct in thinking that these could not benefit from the UPP process and produce some allowance against Australian tax? Would be very interested to hear from anyone who has experience of this.
  21. Agree, it is a great way to see quickly and easily where you are in relation to everyone else. Please will all those who have registered on it make sure they keep it up to date.
  22. Nice Area. We spent a day last year exploring the coast from Redland Bay to Manley, I seem to remember that there is a lakeside shopping area near Victoria Point with a cinema, gym, restaurants etc. We are looking to move north of Brisbane, maybe as far as Buderim, the main driver for us is a good sociable golf club. Plus house prices close to Brisbane are increasing much faster than those in the UK - and we still have at least a year to wait for our visa.
  23. Brilliant news that you have at last got your visa and how lovely that you and your daughter will be travelling to Oz together, just under a month to go! There could not be a better early Christmas present. Where in Brisbane are you hoping to settle, we hope to be travelling out to Brisbane in a years time - fingers crossed.
