Sad thing is we would be booming if it wasn't for the brexit brake.

And it continues to take its toll https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/uk-car-sales-drop-brexit-jaguar-land-rover-investment-smmt-a8432276.html

Sorry posted before I saw your post, but the UK is booming apparently!! All because the roads are full of haulage ? and some builder said it is.

Optimism will only go so far, he said she said is laughable cold hard figures are all that matters, Brexit has so much to answer for.

Good evening guys! Long time no posty! ?

well ive officially been in Darwin for 3 years now and bloody hate it. My old posts are between giving it a go and not liking it.....now it’s complete resentment.

Im stuck in a family law case right now with wanting to return home with the kids but husband says no so I can’t just “go back home then”

Straw that broke the expat back ? was a month ago I was punched in the head by an aboriginal bloke....not drunk either! Just angry because “””drum roll””” I asked him to stop begging for food off customers. I was just doing my job and security hadn’t started yet.

Then a few days ago, few kids threatened to stab me in my pregnant belly because I wouldn’t buy them smokes and lollies.

Being hurt or threatened can happen anywhere....I get that but come on! A non threatening pregnant woman?

I hate this place. Firstly, immigration should warn you of the Hauge Convention law and secondly, yes I felt sorry for “most, not all” aboriginals when I first arrived but now.....nothing but abuse, being a white c**t, callings my kids names for not giving them $2.....biggest regret was moving here.

Darwin is one of a kind. A massive turd hole to be precise.

You are in a battle with your husband and also pregnant?

Land Rover is moving Diesel production to Slovakia, but will convert Solihull plant to make electric models.

Rolls Royce are slashing jobs because they are under pressure due to engine fan blade issues.

Generally confidence is a little low due to uncertainty around BREXIT.

Good to know they will be still using the plant at Solihull in another way it's pretty iconic, currently 1800 staff are temp through an agency I guess it's easier to get rid of them.

My sister lived in London (Putney) for 40 years and was never mugged or robbed.  I couldn't live there but it's a great place to visit.

Times change have you seen the murder rate this year? Gangs on mopeds robbing people in broad daylight, acid and knives seem to be the weapon of choice.

  7. Australian economy beats expectations with 3.1% annual GDP growth.

The Australian economy has beaten expectations, with very strong 1 per cent growth in the first quarter driving a 3.1 per cent annual increase in GDP.

Not as good as during the boom years but still reason to be pleased, just this week had our employment agreement signed off for the next 3 years 4% pay rise per year as well as incremental increases happy days.

  8. UK economy slowest growth since 2012, manufacturing at a 17 month low. Rolls Royce slashing jobs Land Rover slowly moving production away from the UK. I thought things were improving why the sudden down turn?

Should they be abolished?  Some teachers are saying it is unfair that  people judge a school on their test results.  Personally I can't see anything wrong with this and think people need all the information they can get about the performance of different schools. There is a state school near here that has dire results and if I was in the education department I would go in there and find out what is going wrong and perhaps get a new head teacher for them.

The same as with SATS there really shouldn't any surprises at result time, teachers shouldn't need test results to highlight weaknesses in individual students and if they do perhaps it's time to look at a different profession.

  10. We had a small wooden ornament probably 18 inches high and it got picked up by customs they wanted either close to $400 to fumigate or $70 to destroy it. So I should imagine furniture would be extremely expensive should they decide it's untreated - I believed our ornament was treated but not according to customs.

FWIW, I think the lack of police presence on the roads is possibly to blame for the sometimes poor quality of driving. They only seem interested in catching speeding drivers and don't seem to bother about other bad driving habits, tailgating, swapping lanes, using phones, driving through amber lights when there is plenty of time to stop, not stopping at Halt signs, driving through flashing red lights on level crossings. The police could fund a few extra police just by sitting at a level crossing near me. (Bonbeach, Chelsea and Carrum). I reckon just one in ten drivers stop at the halt sign at the top of the road where it joins Station Street. Gosh, you could go on for ever criticizing drivers here in Australia ( Victoria), but I have just become so enured to it all. Now I just drive to expect the worst and that anything can happen and so drive accordingly.

Why don't they increase the fines for mobile phone use, instead of $300 or whatever it is make it $3000 and loss of licence, that'll make them think a bit.

    Mike

Same in Perth more interested in revenue raising than preventing serious driving offences.

  12. Melbourne drivers are some of the worst I have seen, Perth drivers are only slightly better though. I didn't think the roads in Melbourne were that bad compared to UK roads which are atrocious, thankfully Perth roads are excellent on the whole every UK visitor we have comments and how good they are.
