  1. Hey Guys, I have been getting quotes for shipping this week from the UK to Brisbane from Anglo Pacific, John Mason and Doree. Having lots of mixed information from each company about wrapping they use one company uses special breathable wrapping so furniture doesn't get mould and some aren't? Some say shipping will take 12 weeks (John Mason) but Anglo Pacific stated it will take 8/9 weeks max?? Please can people let me know their shipping time inc customs so from start to finish and which company they used? Also has anyone else had this breathable fabric that John Mason used to wrap items and has anyone not had it and did your furniture get mouldy? I also had one company quote i needed 650cubic feet but another stated 850 cubic feet? Thanks everyone Sent from my SM-G920F using PomsinOz mobile app

  4. Hi Everyone, It's been a bit of a whirlwind week, we had our 2nd little boy last week and sold our home yesterday! They would like to move in within 4-6 weeks!! We are negotiating for 8 weeks. Off the back of this I have a few questions in hoping you can all help me with: 1) Is August a good time to make a move? I'm hoping we can stay with family for 8 weeks and leave in early October, would this be better? 2) when you sold your home, when did you ship your belongings? I'm worried about it falling through last minute ect did anyone put any conditions in around the sale when emigrating? 3) tips for moving with a toddler and baby? We are breaking up the flight and going to Hong Kong for 5 days then onto Melbourne for 2 weeks to see my husband's family before finally getting to Brisbane! I'd prefer to settle the kids into Brisbane straight away but my husband's family haven't met our latest addition so it's a must that we go to Melbourne first. 4) tips to keep us sane along the way? I feel so nervous, looking forward to our new adventure was just sooner than we planned! Thank you x Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  5. Hi Pom Queen, there is more job availability for us in melbourne but our hearts just aren't in it. My hubby is originally from there and doesn't like the areas we could probably afford to live. I'm also not that keen on Melbourne, I've been before to visit family and I found it too much like home (UK) and also don't like the thought of the long commutes like we did in London before having children. We are going to give Brisbane a go and see how the job market goes for a year. Worse case we end up in Melbourne in the long run. Xx Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  6. Hi Peachy, Thanks for the info. We are currently looking to rent for the first year (maybe less if we are lucky and settle well). Our jobs will be in CBD. We would like to live in a place with good childcare (both children will be under 3 years old). Easy commute (under 35 minutes on either train or bus) to CBD as hubby won't have a car , only me within the 1st year until we settle. We would need 3 bedrooms but hope for 4 on our budget. We would have upto 450 per week to spend on rental. We would absolutely love a swimming pool if we can afford one in our budget. A leafy family suburb would be fab. Not too fussed if it's near a beach or not as long as commute is good and it's safe. Thanks! Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  7. Thanks guys so much for all your comments and help in us making our decision. We decided to follow our hearts and go with Brisbane as a trial for a year and see how we get on with jobs ect and the kids settling. If it doesn't work then we will give melbourne a go. As much as our heads are saying Melbourne, we just don't feel as excited ect to go. Thank you again for all your help! X Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  8. Hi everyone, I've written a few posts on here before asking for information about Melbourne and also Brisbane. Me and my partner are feeling so confused. We decided to go for moving to Melbourne, put the house up for sale this week, we have had a lot of viewings already and a second viewing today which is fab, but it also means we might be moving sooner than we thought! We're having second thoughts about Melbourne. My husband has family there who have offered to help with the kids ect so we thought it would be easier, but when my husband spoke to them this week to tell them the news...all offers of help seem to have been withdrawn or forgotten about. If we're going alone and with no help that's fine but Melbourne would not have been our first choice if this was the case as house prices are ridiculous. We would love to try queensland but I don't have a clue on areas to look for, I have been going through old posts on here but it's not been easy trying to find the best areas that are flood free? We will work cbd also. Would love to hear from other people who made the move to brisbane from the UK and are glad they did? Help anyone! A confused lady.... Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  9. Hi Everyone, been reading a few articles/posts about Crime in Melbourne which has scared me and my husband when emigrating with 2 little ones? Particularly around northern- western suburbs? Is this the case? Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  10. Thanks hun I will have a look. Yeah I contribute way too much! Lol so that's why I don't want to leave with nothing!! I will have a look on the UK government website and see what it says. Thank you! Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  11. Hi hun, thanks for the reply. Yes we need to stay close to CBD for our jobs. That's where the majority of our profession will probably be. I'd really like to live on the outskirts and we looked at Berwick ect. It's so hard trying to narrow down places, as I don't want to drag the children around so often! 430 is really good. We want a 4 bed too! How are you finding Auz so far? I'm very nervous but also excited at trying something new. My hubby is Australian but he seems more nervous than me!! Haha. Have your little ones settled in well. Thanks again Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  12. Hello everyone, I will be emigrating to Australia whilst on maternity leave, and I was wondering if anyone else has done this? I currently get 9 months maternity pay and I may be leaving at 6 months? I think it would be statutory pay by this point in the UK? I'd assume I wouldn't get it in Australia with being on a partner visa ect and not having worked there which would make sense!
  13. Hi, Is there anyone who lives in Berwick (melbourne) who can tell me the pros and cons? We will be commuting to cbd for work and we have 2 young children who need day care/ schools in 2 years. Thank you Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  14. Me and my hubby recently had this conversation. I love my husband lots, been married 5 years, 2 children (2nd due in a week) but you have to be adults and discuss reality. We are going to speak to a family lawyer about a post nup - money isn't the talking point, it's the decision on the children, we both feel we could never be separated from them and live apart on other sides of the world, so we both have to live in the same place. We decided if I'm unhappy or the kids are we would move back to the UK as that's where we met and where we have both started our lives. Were going to get it in legal writing too. My husband is a very reasonable man, and I am as a wife. But when emotions are running high, you need to have some sensible ground. X Sent using Poms in Oz mobile app
  15. I'm from Wakefield! Small world. Yes the price of property is absolutely ridiculous and it shows no sign of slowing, we have family and friends who work within the housing sector and they all say it's just going to keep going up! So many opportunities for your 13 year old! She might not be happy now, but when she settles and makes friends she will soon be thanking you.
  16. Thanks Pomeroy queen the article made it sound like it's just qld due to it being south side? What time does it get dark in summer ect? X
  17. Thanks Vicki, is this same for Melbourne? Thanks
  18. Hi Everyone, I read an article that Brisbane gets dark at 7pm and that there is some angry virus mosquitos there too? Is this true, or just someone moaning? Thanks!
  19. Thank you so much Quoll that's so helpful. I just printed off all the forms and immunisation my little ones need to have ect. And also medicare forms. Thanks
  20. Does anyone know the types of childcare options for a 1 year old and 3 year old in Melbourne? Thanks
  21. Good to know Ali, we have asked for them to come out and quote in June (hoping to leave end of this year).
  22. The land at Lancefield road that is being built on is my father in laws land. It all finalises next summer, so they will probably start building on it end of 2018 early 2019.
  23. Hi Pomqueen, I have read a few posts about PSS with items losts/damaged. Do you recommend them over John Mason? Starting to think it's luck of the draw Thanks x
  24. Hey hun, Are the quotes for packing and wrapping too? Or are you doing the packing and wrapping yourself? I didn't know they did sole use of 20ft containers. I don't want to share a container so I'm looking for the same! Thanks
