  1. Yes I have done similar looking at Gas Turbine Power stations on Wikipedia looking what company own them and then looking for jobs related to the company. I am not too set on the Power industry it's just something I'm obviously familiar with and would be of best suit but any job related to my skills will be appreciated to be honest. I'm just struggling to find skills assessment for a Electrical, Control and instrumentation technician. I do electrical work on site and reading the assessment description I would be comfortable passing the practical assessment etc but I do not have an electrical NVQ only an instrumentation one. Although I have and electrical complex licence so I'll have to do some Enquiries as I doubt I'm the first E,C&I technician searching for a job in Australia Thanks for your help and best of luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks for that . I wasn't expecting much for the WHV I'm looking forward to a break from the same old routine and doing a bit of travelling and a variety of work that comes with that so that's okay. I have looked at different state sponsored lists and it does come up on a few primarily on the second tier but it is there. What other lists can I look at ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks for your reply. I'm thinking more in permanent Visa terms further down the line as you may already know with my other posts I am on a WHV from January if I could carry on this line of work on that visa that would be good (but only for 6 months). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Hello I am currently a Control and instrumentation technician on a gas turbine power station her in the UK. I'm just enquiring as to what the Power Station job market is looking like over there in Aus and also what kind of skills assessment must I take in order to have skills recognised as instrument technician or Panel Operator ? Kind Regards Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Thank you all for your responses I really appreciate them they are all thoughts that I have had myself but they mean a lot more when I know someone else is thinking the same about it ! I suppose no matter what I will do I will inevitably end up saying what if but I'm sure it will be more satisfying saying what if with 2 years worth of memories from travelling Australia and various other places ! Thanks again guys !
  7. Thank you very much for your reply. Ye I have been working since 16 basically so I am ready for my gap year if I can call it that ha . Finished my apprenticeship NVQ HNC HND so I won't come home without any certs behind me. i used to be very career minded but after a family grievance I have had a different outlook and though F it and get out there !

  9. Hello Me and my girlfriend have had our WHV accepted and flights booked for January 2017. I am am looking for some reassurance that what I'm doing is not the worse life decision I'm going to make ha. I will be 23 when we go and in an decent job on a power station but I will be quitting it all and going for 2 years travelling mainly based in Australia (I know WHV only grants one year at first regional work is needed etc). I really can not wait to go the excitement of travelling and seeing things is brilliant I have never done anything like this before and feel like it's a good thing to do whilst I'm still young and able but I can't help but think in the back of my mind is it going to screw me career wise for the rest of my life will I get a job like this again with the same money or will I have to come home and start all over again. In a nut shell what I am really after is someone to tell me to stop worrying and go out there and have a good time ! Is there anyone that has done anything similar like this before and have any tips also we are currently looking at some places to go and see whilst in Australia we are into walking and looking at any suggestions of nice national parks /coastal walks? Thank you all for your help

    Am I crazy!

I was just meaning breadline after two years of travelling returning home and trying to find a job without working in my line of work for so long. Maybe my post was a bit misleading I do understand what a WHV is but my main aim is to stay one day not necessarily straight after the WHV but thank you for your responses

    Am I crazy!

Yep fully aware of the conditions of the visa. i work as an instrumentation technician on a power station with a few different certs so going over on WHV for a taster with GF see how we like it see what career opportunities there would be for the future and hopefully in the long term manage to gain job sponsorship

    Am I crazy!

I was just about to write a similar post. After years of working as a technician on a power station with decent pay and a good future I've decided to pack up and give it a go I've been before visiting in 2014, got the bug and I have my WHV and flights booked for January ! Worrying wether it's the worse career decision of my life or not but only time will tell so let's hope for the best ! I'll let you all know in two years wether it's the bread line back in UK or the good life in aus !
  13. Was about to write exactly the same thread until stumbling across this. Me and my girlfriend hoping to head to aus in Jan 2017. We went last year for a month we did the likes of Sydney, Byron bay, rainbow beach, Fraser Island, Gold Coast, Brisbane etc in a campervan hired from juicy. I did a sky dive over rainbow beach that was brilliant you can see Fraser Island aswell whilst diving I would strongly recommend that mate. we are planning on taking the grasshopper bus for a bit of our travelling try looking at that I think STA travel do deals for it. i have a question for everyone else also do you find many couples travelling Australia living in backpacker hostels I personally don't mind but I have a prejudice vue they're mainly full of single people and may struggle to fit in etc? Any couples who have done the same things advice would be great.
  14. Hello, I am just looking for some guidance for the future as it would be a goal of mine to move to Australia in the future... ASAP. I am 21 years old I live in the UK and I am a fully Trained E,C & I (Electrical Control and Instrumentation) Technician with experience in Oil, Gas and Energy industry. I also have experience of Process operations on a Gas Turbine Power station. My main Quals are: NVQ Level 3 Instrumentation NEBOSH HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Would somebody be able to shed light on how I would stand in applying for jobs in Australia? Would I need further training if so what? What Jobs in Australia would I be suitable for? Would I get a sponsorship? Thank you for your help
