  1. Hi Sayaka, I came out on a 190 visa - mainly because I am dyslexic and didn't gets the points needed on the ILETS and knew I wanted to come to SA so was easier (and cheaper) to get the points that way instead of resetting the test. I did it all by myself. I went to a 'down under live' day and was really annoyed with the rubbish that agents were telling me as I knew more then them about my options! Everything is on the website, and you still have to fill all the same forms out - I don't understand what you pay the agent to do! It's a very long process (with lots of waiting) and I made mistakes but got us here in the 1 year frame I gave myself! I am more than happy to help you if I can! People on here helped me so now it's my turn!
  2. Hi guys, Quick update - had the telephone interview this morning. It was only for 20 minutes and there was lots of information about the company given before I was asked anything. I was asked the following; - When do you arrive? - How far along with the teacher registration process are you? - Do you have any holidays booked? -What do you think about the company? -Describle a time you have done curriculum programming based on a child's interest? -How do you value parents and families? -How do you make children feel respected and cared for? -What is your pay expectation? That was it! I now have a practical assessment based on photographs of a blank setting and I have to write bullet points on how I would improve it, which seems pretty straight forward. If successful on that, I will be given a face to face interview when I arrive in 2 weeks. Compared to teaching job interviews I have had here, this wasn't half as scary or intimidating! Feeling slightly more hopefully
  3. Thanks so much Roxy Roo! I really appreciate the heads up! I feel so much better about it now that I have a idea what they might ask. Yeah, its a telephone interview as we don't get to Oz until 9th August. Its the first job Ive applied for so suited I have even got an interview! Not expecting to get it (Im not that jammy to land the first job I apply for) but looking forward to getting into the interview mindset and get the first one over with! I will let you know how it goes xx
  4. Hi RoxyRoo, I come seeking advice again! I have a telephone interview for a Teacher post in a Goodstart setting next week and was wondering if you could give me some pointers on things you have been asked in the past. Thanks x
  5. Thanks so much, these were the answers I was hoping for! You have made me feel more positive towards applying for jobs too. Just need my visa to be granted then I can start getting looking properly. This waiting game is tortuous. X
  6. Hi RoxyRoo, I have just had my qualification assessed by ACECQA as ECT and have sent off my documents now to gain teacher registration. In the UK I work as a Nursery Teacher so get the best of both worlds with the school holidays and age group. Im looking at jobs and most are in daycare setting. I was just wondering what the pay is like compared to school? Most of the centres seem to be G8 or Goodstart - do you know if one company is better than the other or are they similar? Thanks xx Thanks x
  7. Fingers crossed for you! Yes, I have just sent off to get my qualifications assessed (again) and then to register we have to first complete a safeguarding course in person in South Australia so won't be able to register until we are there. As soon as we get our visa, we will book the flights and the course for the same week we arrive. It's such a long process, it better be worth it! ☺
  8. It's been a long road! AITSL finally assessed in March, then waited for SA state sponsorship with came through beginning of April. (Im dyslexic and i just could not get 8 in the writing to go for the 189, 7.5 each time!) We applied on the 4th May uploaded everything so hopefully be here by August. I sent everything I sent to AITSL to ACECQA and it passes straight away. Luckily my first degree I did had 30 days 0-2 then my pgce I had 10 days. I was surprised that it went through as simple as it did only toon 3 weeks, compared to 8 months for AITSL! X
  9. Quick update. I have managed to get a successful Acecqa assessment for ECT with the combination of my first degree and pgce. Now just need the visa to be granted!
  10. Since I last posted I have received my 189 visa grant (woohoo!!!), handed in my notice at my current job and signed up with a supply agency who have already found me a PPA cover role, 3 days a week which is exactly what I was looking for. Only just just seen this! Email notification must of gone to junk inbox. Huge congratulations, I'm suited for you! Bet that made Xmas even better! When are you thinking of making the move? And good news on the job over here too! So happy for you My AITLS update- they contacted me on the 11th dec requesting more information from university about my placements, so was a mad rush to get it all before everyone broke up for Xmas. Sent off on the 15th dec and could see on Royal Mail it had arrived on the 22nd but they must of been shut for 2 weeks over Xmas, as only just got an email saying they have it. What is more annoying this email says my 10 week window starts from now! When I am on week 8 of waiting. I'm so fed up of waiting. This is only the first hurdle and we started this the beginning of June! Starting to panic about timescales now. But your journey does give me hope! Xx
  11. I know - I hope it does! Will be gutted to pay and wait all that time and it fail again! Once is bad enough but twice would be a right kick in the teeth! Hmm...I'm hoping that my first degree with count has I had a placement with the little ones for quite a while and Uni have done a letter with the amount of days on. Did you have to do a Nursery placement at all on your course - We had to do 5 days right at the beginning - if you did, could you jazz it up to sound more than it was? We are the same, Adelaide is our first choice but we will go where we can get work, my husband is a primary teacher (KS2) so we will go where he has better chance of getting a job. They definitely don't make it easy for us! x
  12. Yes, the new application is in so now we are playing the waiting game....again! Eeek! That's so exciting, please keep me posted! Wow, that's a lot, not sure I want to teach that much to pay out all that! I don't think it is that much to get it assessed. My first degree is on there list but its diploma level, and then there is Warick Uni PGCE listed at the same level. Hopefully if you send all the info like you did for AITLS it will pass. I'm lucky that I have found you, as it seem like no one else has gone down this route before! Where abouts in Oz are you planning on moving too? Xx
  13. Selina! Hello! I have spent hours searching this (again) and seems like its only me and you who have these questions! Surely someone else has been in this situation! Please let me know if you have made any progress on this! Looks like everything else is going to plan though
  14. No they just want a letter, confirming position, length of time you have worked there and hours. I think I'll get my head to do it, that does make more sense. Yes it is a relief, I kind of thought if I tell her then I have to go for it. She is already on about coming out and visiting me lol! Have you heard anything or are you just playing the waiting game? X
  15. Oh how exciting Selina! Finger crossed you have got through the hardest part already, and you don't have to wait much longer to get your final answer! That will be a nice Christmas present! After much debating we have decided to try again - we have said this was just a practice and this time we will be more prepared! The positive is now it has passed September, I have 3 years post qualifying teaching experience so can get that assessed at the same time. This is where I need help - again! (Don't know what I would do without this forum!) On the AITSL website it say they need a letter from the "employing authority" - is this the school or the Local Authority? I have spoken to my head who is now well aware of our plans and she isn't sure if she write it on school headed paper or the LA. Or on the letter is she meant to state that I work at the school on behalf of the council? Did you get your employment assessed? What did you do? Want to make sure I get it all right this time around! xx
  16. No idea why it was there! From past experience with royal mail, I don't try to make sense of where stuff goes where it does! I tried to argue my case but they said that's their policy and end of. No they didnt take the payment, thankfully. Hows you case going Selina? x
  17. Quick Update! I requested my appeal on the 2nd Sept. Got all the documents from Uni and sent it off on the 12th Sept with royal mail 5-7 working days track and trace. It arrived on the 6th Oct as it was stalled somewhere in Hong Kong for days. Recieved an email today saying because it arrive 4 days after the 30 day limit it has been rejected. Meaning i need to start from the beginning. Im so fed up! Thinking of giving up altogether! x
  18. Hi, that would be super helpful! Thank you! The email response had no extra detail at all so basically it's down to me to figure it out. Uni are extremely busy as you can imagine at this time of year, so have asked me to give them as much info as I can! Feel every confused! The occupation ceiling are on the the main website https://www.border.gov.au/Busi/Empl/skillselect. Eek fingers crossed you get the email this weekend xxx
  19. Hi, I contacted this company at the start of the progress back in May - they were the first agents I phoned, and their website looked perfect with it been for teachers. However, the information they gave me set alarm bells ringing as everything they were telling me completely contradicted what I had seen on the australia.gov website, (and what I have heard from other agents since). They said we could get independent visas - either though primary teaching is not on the shortages list, they said ECE was no longer on the list and my husband who has less experience in teaching and is older should be the main applicant - which would mean we would lose points instantly! I could't find a MARN number anywhere to check. I got the inital email asking for money, then 3 more within a few days. I had a bad feeling so emailed them with these queries but i got no response. I left it there! I just had a really bad feeling about them. I hope for your sake I am wrong!! I'm doing it alone because I just dont trust anyone else, and Im a control freak!
  20. Oh my, its such a mind field. They really make it hard for us! I had seen this with ACECQA - my first degree is on the list but not as a ECT but diploma. And to be honest I dont think I would mind doing that for a bit anyway! My husband is a primary teacher but with experience we would only be able to go through state nominated to Perth and thats not where we want to go ideally. So as long as we get the independent visa, I am not worried about what I have to do after that. Ill put my feet up after doing all this and he can work lol!!
  21. Fleks - did you appeal then or just leave it? The shortage cap is nearly 2000 for ECE and they only had 25 apply so far - not surprising if its so hard! What are you doing now your out there? Is it worth all this hassle??
  22. Hello - little update!! I emailed AITSL saying I wanted to appeal my outcome and explained about my PCGE asking them what they require from university to demonstrate it was Lower Primary. I got an automated response that said they would contact me within 5-7 working days. I waited for 8, received nothing, so then I phoned! The gentleman on the phone explained it was quite common with British PGCE as the transcripts are vague and the certificates don't always state it. I asked what he suggested I should request from university and all he said was 'make sure its specific to you' and he would email more details. However the email just explains the progress which I have to do to appeal. I have emailed back asking again! I have contacted Uni and they said just to let them know what they want - but I still have no idea what AITSL really want! Selina - what information did your uni provide and in how much detail? Was it a long letter? Hope all in going well with your applications!
  23. My middle placement was in a reception class, but my final was in a year 1 class. I don't know why my certificate doesn't state it. It's so annoying because I purposely did the lower PGCE as ECE Is on the shortage list! Thanks again for the advice, I going to get in touch with people today and see what they say! I'll keep you posted! X
  24. All it says on my letter is that I don't have a specialism in early years in my PGCE. My PGCE certificate doesn't state lower primary so can kind of see why they might think this and because the modules had the same names as the upper primary PGCE, but with a EYFS focus instead of KS2. Also 50 per cent of my essays, including the research project where EYFS based but this isn't clear on transcripts. Did your PGCE clearly state it was lower primary? (Sorry for all the questions, but really appreciate the help) If we did it as primary teachers we would have to go for state nominated visa which isn't want we want as not in the areas we want to move to.
