  1. I certainly didn't have to. It was 5 working days to get it on, but I still haven't received the email they said! Still not sure why I had to wait and I did ring them to chase it.
  2. Hey Lisa, I did not have to present again. My name is now on the register (as of about 10 minutes ago!) but I believe I will also get an email with instructions about my conditions.
  3. I think it is just an email from what was said today. I will let you know when I hear though. TBH I didn't know that the Registration Officer contacting me was not at the local office that I specified at the beginning, it may be for others that they are in that office and can get it sorted straight away?
  4. Hi Louloubelle, I have been to AHPRA to present today. I would ring before you present as it has taken 5 weeks for my COGS to arrive. My fit to work was from January and I did not need to do another one, but if it says you do in your offer letter then obviously that is different. Make sure when you arrive in Australia you have you passport stamped, if you go through the automated immigration control and don't get a stamp you will need to save your boarding card to present as evidence of when you arrived. You will also need a copy of your visa. I also thought when when I presented that it would be all done, but no! Because of the condition on my registration it needs to be finalised by the Registration Officer that contacted me throughout the process. Hopefully that won't take too long as I was hoping to start in 2 weeks! Hope that help.
  5. Ok great, thank you. He doesn't have a disability in an academic sense, he's pretty clever. But he does have Aspergers and struggles socially.
  6. I am writing to my son's school this week to let them know he will not be returning after the summer holiday. Do I need to ask them for any school reports to take over? He's just finishing year 7 in the UK so will be going into year 5 when we arrive in September.
  7. Hi Loulou, did you have the NMC certificate dated within 3 months or did you sign a statutory declaration when you presented? I took from my letter that I did not need to get another certificate from the NMC but just sign the declaration?? Not quite enough hoops to jump through are there?!
  8. Lol, the only 2 things our shippers queried and said no to were a boomerang and an incense diffuser like a fir cone - both of which we brought back with us last time!!
  9. South Australia are not offering sponsorship but if you are able to get a visa they do offer the possibility of job transfer. (Ie I am the main applicant granted a visa and my husband has applied to transfer as a Sgt, more or less. Still got to go through recruitment process though. Take a look at the SAPOL website.
  10. Hi, good luck with it all Louhods! I am waiting for my AHPRA registration any day now - checking my emails is the first thing I do in the morning! Like others have said you can do it at the same time or after. I wish I had done mine earlier but I wrongly thought I would be paying registration for the time I was still in the UK - I didn't realise it doesn't take effect until I arrive! My uni degree did have continuity of cares too but I will be registered with conditions as most UK midwives are. Unless you have evidence of 10 continuity of cares and delivered at least 5 I believe. The website is confusing but it does get a bit easier to navigate the more you read it! Whereabouts are you looking at going?
  11. Plenty of hints and tips on doing IELTS on other threads, but I will say be prepared for a long day. I did my IELTS at Sheffield last year. I did the academic test so can only comment on that. But the Reading, writing and listening test is in the morning and then You get given a time later for the speaking test. With any luck you'll be early on but mine wasn't until 16.30 so I walked into Sheffield and had lunch and a drink in a few places. Good luck!
  12. As part of the Australian midwifery course they have to document 10 continuity of cares (case holdings). [h=3]Continuity of care experiences[/h] Experience in woman-centred care as part of continuity of care experiences. The student is supported to: establish, maintain and conclude a professional relationship while experiencing continuity with individual women through pregnancy, labour and birth, and the postnatal period, regardless of model of care provide midwifery care within a professional practice setting and under the supervision of a midwife—in collaborative practice arrangements supervision by other relevant registered practitioners (for example, medical officer qualified in obstetrics, child health nurse or physiotherapist) may be appropriate engage with a minimum of 10 women—engagement involves attending four antenatal visits, two postnatal visits and, for the majority of women, the labour and birth maintain a record of each engagement incorporating regular reflection and review by the education or health service provider.
  13. Hi, any midwives registered with AHPRA how long did it take to get registered? It seems nurses receive their registration quicker, I am assuming this is because of the 'continuity of care' issue? I sent my application 15th February, it arrived 22nd Feb and was acknowledged 24th Feb. They asked for more information (evidence of 10 continuities of care) which I could not provide and the last contact was the 10th March when I confirmed that I would not be sending any further documentation. What are you 'conditions' and how long for? Is there a notation on your registration that says you are not educationally prepared for continuity of care? We go in September and I'm really hoping I'll be registered before so I can at least start applying for jobs!
  14. Hmm, interesting I'd not thought of the open status of them! Thank you. We'll be living with my sister in-law for at least half the time before our stuff arrives so not too much of an issue.
  15. I'm a keen cook and have an extensive range of herbs and spices collected over time. I know I must declare any herbs or spices in our shipping but I'm wondering if I am likely to be charged at all? I know they will all be available in Australia (before everyone jumps on me!). But rather than having to go out and buy them all again in one go (along with everything else that we'll need to get) I just thought it might be easier to take with - unless it's going to cost me a fortune!!
  16. Ah right, mine is only 11 pages...! However it does cover the clinical hours and the medicines management is covered in a separate letter attached so they can't miss it. I have just spoken to my uni, who I think we're a little bit put out that I'm asking for more, that the only thing I can see that is not included in the transcript is the number of antenatal/postnatal/neonatal examinations I had to do and how many hands on births I had to conduct to qualify so I have asked them to forward that information. Like you say they don't make it easy to know what is missing by just including that block. haha, also liked the fact that my uni told me I'd done it wrong because I've also done ANMAC and they've never known that before. I mentioned going independent so they thought I was an independent midwife....! Doh.
  17. Hi all, I sent my AHPRA application on the 15th Feb and recieved confirmation of receipt and payment was taken on the 24th. I heard from them yesterday, somehow I managed to miss a question... Not quite sure how when both myself and my husband went through it a few times but hey ho. So answered that via email... She did not ask to resend the application though. The thing that I'm confused with is she asked for: Qualification For your Bachelor of Midwifery degree, please provide the following documentary evidence: · A certified copy of the academic transcript (translated into English if required) and any other supplementary documentation if available. · A certified copy of the course outline (translated into English if required). · Official confirmation from your education institution of the number of hours of workplace experience acquired during the time that you were studying. · Evidence that you meet the Professional experience requirements for midwives listed under Qualification criteria: internationally qualified midwives on the Meeting the registration requirements page of the NMBA website. Please see the above link as this details the most up to date qualification evidence we must see in order for you to hold registration as a midwife in Australia. If you are unable to meet all the criteria (such as the evidence of ten Continuity of Care Experiences) the likelihood is that you may be registered with conditions and a notation if you meet all other qualification and registration requirements. You can see more information here about the potential application outcomes. · Certification from your education institution, provided directly to AHPRA, that you have successfully completed an assessment in medication management. This must be in the form of the following evidence: - certified copies of the relevant course or unit outlines indicating the study and assessment undertaken in medication management, or - if course or unit outlines are no longer available, an official letter from your education institution providing a breakdown of the content completed for medication management and the number of hours studied for each component. Relevant courses must include the following units of study: - pharmacokinetics (the study of the bodily absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drugs) - pharmacodynamics (the study of the biochemical and physiological effects of drugs and the mechanisms of their action in the body) - medication administration (including calculations), and - quality use of medicines. My university sent the transcript direct a year ago (I had planned to sort my application earlier), so I emailed them in December to confirm whether they still had this and recieved a positive response. I have checked my transcript and they have included information about the medicines management. I sent my response last night but recieved an out of office rely, only until tomorrow but sooo frustrating. Anyone come across this or have an idea what they are looking for? How long do they keep documents for if the rest of the application is not submitted? Maybe they have disposed of it already? Still plenty of time to get it sorted, don't fly until September.
  18. Hi, I'm asking on behalf of a friend who is wanting to practice midwifery when travelling (I don't know all the visa details or anything) all I am wondering is which AHPRA office should she send her documents to when she does not know where she will go to first? Thanks.
  19. That's good then! However I don't fancy being the one to get the tent out to check and then put it away again! It's huge and a pain! I grumble at having to do it at the beginning and end of camping!
  20. We are trying to decide what to do with out camping equipment and tents. I know we can't take any gas items and any items we do take must be clean of any soil. If we do follow these precautions are we still likely to encounter any problems with customs? We've heard of people having to pay to have things like camping equipment professionally cleaned/ treated before being released.
  21. Exciting! We've sold ours STC and get the keys for a rental tomorrow, then it's save save save for the next 6 months! Just need to start applying for jobs so we're not desolate when we get there..! I had heard AHPRA can take some time so I'm going to be patient.... Haha she says!
  22. Yes that does sound quick, I'll be quite happy if that's all it takes! When do you go?
  23. Hi thanks LouLou, yep contacted the uni last year (I had planned to send it sooner) and AHPRA confirmed they still have that. I had also requested the MNC form but it's been longer than 3 months so I requested it again last month. I think I've included all the documents I need, guess I'll find out in a month or 2! Sorry, yes when I said registered I meant completed the process as far as I can whilst in the UK.
