  1. Hi Ruby, We opened a Commbank account over a year ago. Through the last year we have sent money over at various advantageous stages. We have used TorFX and would highly recommend Adam Soloman their to anybody. We took out an option in early November to forward buy a large amount of Aussie dollars at a rate of 2.15 for a 5% down payment. It's a gamble as we won't be in a position to make good on this until we sell our house but hopefully by early May, by which time we're hoping that the move proved a wise one. The foreign exchange rate is the thing that has caused us most consternation (besides the wait for a visa) and fwd buying was a way of edging our bets. In terms of tax on the interest (bearing in mind the interest rates are about 3% compared to the UK low rates), interest is payed monthly into the account and a "Non resident withholding tax" of 10% is deducted direct. So if your interest is $200 your a net $180 better off. The non resident tax is payed until you arrive in Oz and apply for a TFN (tax file number) Hope this is helpful. Cheers Phil
  2. Hi Maisie, Its getting exciting with Dolphin1962 now only 10 or so days away and that also means we move out of the busy month of Mar 2014 (as quoted by Immi) Early 2nd week of March would be a good shout for your C.O. I hope we can start and create some space in the waiting room. It will be great to hear lots good news from "The Class of 2014" Come on Immi :chatterbox: Come on !!!! Cheers Phil
  3. Hi Ian, Wasn't me, but think it was actually GeordieJoe who posted about the E600 Cheers Phil
  4. Hi Steve, It must be so frustrating awaiting any contact for Meds, AOS, Police Checks at least we have been able to get all that out of the way. Now all our Ducks are in a row just waiting for the "Lesser Spotted Case Officer". In answer to your question about AOS it was a referral letter from Centrelink (via our agent) that enabled Tom (our son) to make contact and put it all in place. As Joop has said and I have said previously, I am uncertain whether our agent has been really smart or has any more pull that the next as they are based in Perth ?? Where abouts in Perth are you thinking of settling ? Even after spending a month there last year we have so many areas we like. I suppose it will come down to the question of build or buy when we get there. Short term we will be living with our Son and Fiancee in Landsdale but we have promised them we will be in our own pad by August when they get married, although they are both insistent that we can stay as long as it takes. All we can all do on here, is hang on to those "Happy thoughts of great times ahead" and how lucky we are to get this opportunity. "Happy Days" :ssign19: Phil
  5. Hi Steve, I second your sentiments entirely. They say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, combine that with Visa Stress and the whole emigration process and I'm surprised we're all not in A and E :biglaugh: How was Perth ? did you get down to the new Elizabeth Quay ? Cheers Phil
  6. Hi Julie, Yep from Leeds and I thought a couple of days to pack but the more I walk round and look at all our stuff the more I realise what a task it will be. The decluttering carries on !!!! Phil
  7. Hi Bev50Bradley, I have just had quotes from PSS and Pickfords Based on 3/4 of a 40' container, they come and pack for 3 days (into their own boxes etc) However whatever you have packed yourselves they are able to use. Bring a container on day 4 and load and seal. 8-10 weeks shipping. Customs clearance and delivery and unpacking at destination address or hold in storage (upto 4 weeks free) until ready for delivery. PSS was £5950. Pickfords £6300 Insurance is on top of this and is dependant on how comprehensive you feel it should be, depending on value of items, total loss etc etc. We are getting a 3rd quote from Doree Bonner and will post when we get this. Hope this helps. Cheers Phil
  8. Hi Amp, De-cluttering takes forever. We have found ourselves decluttering what has already been decluttered. If you go into settings and edit signature you can add all your relevant info there. Cheers Phil:rolleyes:
  9. Hi Amp, Good luck with the long wait. In answer to your questions; 1. Yes you can have your meds done in Aus through bupamvs.com.au and they appear to be cheaper than the £280(approx) charged in UK 2. You only need to fly in to Australia and exit the airport onto Australian soil to registered your visa (you could fly back same day if you were game). I believe, if you still had an address in the UK then there would be no difference to your circumstance in terms of Tax and Healthcare. However, why ? Because you have 12 months to land in Australia from the earliest date of Police Checks or medicals to register your visa and this can just be for a holiday if you didn't have everything sorted by this time. Hope this helps. Cheers Phil
  10. Hi Fisher1 Congratulations on your graduation from the waiting room to the main departure platform, it's good to hear of someone blazing a trail for all of us in Limboland. Phil
  11. Hi Sadge, 143 is a PR visa and therefore comes with all the benefits of Medicare from day 1, no wait. The only restriction on this visa is with relation to Centrelink and that is where your AOS and the bond you place comes in. Meaning, that if you need to claim it comes out of your bond and once that is used then your AOS is then responsible until the 10 year probation period is up. Cheers Phil
  12. Hi Fisher1 Congratulations on joining the realms of the mystical 143/173, first task is like "Where's Wally" except we're looking for the "Lesser Spotted Case Officer". Please report all sightings to the forum. Thanks Phil

  14. Hi Kim, Joe is right, any positive energy has just gone. It's hard to remain upbeat when you've just been told by Immi that they can actually go slower than they were doing :cry: On the bright side, we know we're all in it together. Chin up, at least we're on the home stretch. Early 2014, when we lodged seems such a long time ago. I'm trying to think positive thoughts, positive thoughts, positive thoughts. Cheers Phil
  15. Hi Linda, Thats great news. Congratulations to her and us all !! I was looking back at emails from my Agent, not sure if good or bad thing but Mar24th 2014 was when the deferred price hike came in from Sept 01st 2013 (it went to court because the increase was too high). Does that mean that March will be a busy month or a quiet month ??. So, your a month away and that may hopefully be a lot less. Fingers crossed for us all, nice to have good news from within the forum. Cheers Phil
  16. Hi, I'm with Skeelsy, don't think any movement because of "Straya Day" but I hope I'm wrong. Phil
  17. [quote "must admit though it s much nicer in the waiting room in Oz!!!! Linda Hi Linda, Talk about rubbing our nose in it  ...... You're right though, it must be. Phil
  18. Hi Kim, Just online with the rest of the bored senseless Parents of "visa fever" Its relentless isn't it. Phil
  19. Hi Fisher1, Maybe your email added to all our emails will make Immi get a spurt on :biglaugh: It could be the final straw, please please be true. Cheers Phil
  20. Hi Kim, Envious of your "Strayyaa Day" BBQ Strooooth hope we do have our visas next year or it will be cramped in here. "Patience is the art of concealing your impatience" With another bank holiday this week what's the odds on any progress in the "assessing date" ?? Cheers Phil
  21. Hi Bev, Once you have your HAP ID you can book to have your medical where ever you want (as long as it's on the approved list) there is no pre-determined location. I believe through memory of our sons visa in Aus you can book it through BUPA (http://www.bupamvs.com.au/) Hope this helps. Cheers Phil
  22. Hi Julie, Yes, we're all getting closer. Hopefully you'll get the nod for Meds n Checks soon. If we can hit March this week that would be great for all seated in the waiting room. Decluttering as hit a pace here, ebay selling in full swing. Its only after showing Pickfords around yesterday that I realised how much more we have to do. Phil
  23. Hi Dolphin1962, Your friend must be imminent for a CO (Immi saying Feb24th) which means your not too far away. I'm forever the optimist, may as well wait with a smile on your face  Look fwd to hearing the news. Cheers Phil
