  1. Oh bless him, poor boy. Very unlucky x
  2. Hi, 2 of my children are currently on the catchup programme - they have their final hep B jab next week! I would advise to just get it done out here. It's been easy enough and free at our local health clinic. They also immunise here against chickenpox (also not on Uk schedule) which might be worth considering assuming your child hasn't already had chicken pox which, at 18 months, is probably unlikely?
  3. While pondering this issue, have just realized we have a separate toilet with the sink in the main bathroom next door while the ensuite has everything in the same room. I had hardly even noticed the difference, so for us, it's not an issue at all.
  4. Nope, just commenting on what has already come up!
  5. Nothing really. Just personal choice I guess. Some people prefer to wash their hands immediately but that said, it's no different to public toilets where the sink is outside. How did the thread get down to these kind of specifics?!!!!
  6. I loved the storm! Sat out on the verandah at 03:40am savouring the refreshment of it all. Just wish it didn't have to come in the middle of the night!! Sun coming out now so getting steamy again My airconditioners are not working properly either - repair man coming Friday!!
  7. Hi, as it's been said in the earlier replies, you do need to be here. But looking at the realestate and domain websites will give you a good idea. Here in Darwin, prices are high and demand for decent rentals is also strong. In any case, it's good to be here to look round and see what is a good fit. Sorry don't know anything about the affordability scheme.
  8. Congratulations! Only downside is expense particularly in our double passport household of 5 which always seem to expire at the same time!
  9. Those poor kids growing up without their Father nearby

  11. Speaking as someone who resides in the NT, I can only imagine the devastation if ebola ever reached our shores and got into the aboriginal communities here.
  12. Stop torturing yourself and go for it!! What have you got to lose? But decide either way - life is too short. My advice would be to either go for it or move on and let it go. Good luck!
  13. Sorry to hear you're having a sad day. It's tough you can take the girl out of Britain but not Britain out of the girl. Have you spoken to your partner about how you feel?
  14. I don't know anything about the visa/state sponsorship process. But reading your answer, my only comment would be perhaps you need to gear your answer more towards what you have to offer the NT rather than what it can offer you? Maybe this is covered elsewhere in the application process but looking at it as a snapshot, that is what I noticed?
  15. When I was in the UK and wished to transfer money from Australia to my UK account, I just rang the international bank phone number and they issued a secure code lift for 24 hours which gave me a window to do the transfer without having to use the code. Found it really easy. (Bank SA)
  16. I went to Hong Kong on 1997. It was the old airport then and just landing in the middle of the city was an experience in itself! I found the place had a real buzz and bustle to it compared to Singapore. I particularly enjoyed the junk cruise in the harbour and going up to a peak which overlooked the harbour (Victoria peak?? don't remember the name). We're flying to the UK in December via HK and were not planning on stopping over. Then after we'd booked the flights, discovered there was a disneyland close to the airport. Tried to change flights for a 1 night stopover but ridiculously expensive. Was a bit disapointed but reading the disney reviews on here, maybe not worth it anyway - thanks for the heads up. I'm sure you'll have a great time, just immersing yourself in the hustle and bustle of it all is an enriching experience in itself!

    Time to move back

You know what is right for you and your family and I wish you the best of luck with everything
  18. I also received my new UK passport back this week - was a 2.5 week turnaround so very pleasantly suprised. I didn't send my Oz passport but sent photocopies of every page of this passport as requested on their website. Made for quite a bulky application as also renewed my daughter's too!
  19. We're planning a trip to Cairns with our 3 young children and just wondering on the best place to stay. Cairns because it's central or Northern Beaches as more relaxing? Don't want to go as far as Port Douglas, the children all get car sick and remember the windy captain cook highway up there! Stayed at Palm Cove years ago and was very nice but don't know how developed it is now? Guess we'd need to hire a car if we do stay by the beach as still want to do some trips out of Cairns. Any thoughts very gratefully received!
  20. Just wondered if anyone has any recent experience flying Oz-UK with Cathay Pacific? Understand there were some previous issues with the shell seats, but from what I can gather this has largely been rectified. Usually fly with Singapore but possibly departing from Cairns this time which isn't one of their locations. Thanks
  21. Hi, I recently applied for 2 UK passport renewals from Australia and wanted to share my timeframe for others who may be in this situation. Today both new passports were delivered to my door (in Darwin) by DHL. This was just 2 weeks and 6 days after my renewal was received in Liverpool, UK!! Wow!
  22. yes I'm not a fan of the aircon either - much prefer a breeze through the louvre windows. And early mornings? Really struggle with the school run for an 8am start! Lucky it's school hols right now!
  23. Good heavens - what dreadful behaviour! I think her behaviour is completely unacceptable and totally unfair on you and the family - especially your wife. Just keep remembering all the good things in your future. Hope she sees the light before you leave but if not, I wouldn't let her influence your decision or ruin what could be a great opportunity for you all.
