  1. Recently we have shifted from London to Sydney. I have been doing IT contracting since last 10 years in UK and want to carry on doing same here as well. I tried looking into the process which seems to me very complicated so I was wondering if someone could simplify this and help me in mapping the process. Usual procedure of operating a company in UK: 1. Open one pvt ltd company via company house for free 2. Hire an accountant who will register you for VAT etc and look after all taxes 3. Get business bank account to get the invoiced amount 4. Get appropriate insurances ( professional indemnity etc) And there you go.. all simple and straightforward steps. Question I have: How taxation works ? i.e. ( £100000 (turnover) - 10000 (tax free allowance) - 150000 (expenses) = £75000 (gross profit) Corporation tax = 75000 * 0.20% = £15000 Net Profit - £60,000 I used to take £30000 as dividend so it was quite effective tax wise. How about Australian process ?
  2. I guess best bet will be to take buy to let mortgage on it, provided rent covers the mortgage payment. Use the lump sum amount to buy/invest property in Australia. This way rent will keep paying your mortgage and you wont get income tax hit on your rental income in Australia. I paid off my mortgage within 2 years (silly me) and now banks are refusing to give buy to let mortgage so We have sell before moving to Sydney.
  3. I guess I can help. During my recent visit to Sydney, I hired a car from Budget but didn't take insurance from them for same reason you have mentioned. However I toll it from trip cover who charged me around $13 per day. They call it excess waiver insurance, google it, you might find some good deal. Ideally I was looking for a year but cost came way too high compared to UK. Hope this helps.
  4. Rental income in the UK - 9800 ( after all eligible deductions) In this case - 1. You still would need to file tax return in UK but wont be paying any tax (due to tax free allowance) 2. You would need to declare this income in Australian tax return but wont be paying any tax on it (£9800) at all. is that correct ?
  5. We have managed to get our visa 189 sorted and now looking to move to Australia. We are quite excited to leave UK weather behind but equally nervous for leaving our well settled job. I work as contractor with one Media giant as Developer in test (all sort of testing, technical & non-technical) and other half works as Java technical lead with tons of experience. We have no one in Australia but really struggling to get information about Australian job market. Its going to be big decision especially with 2 kids(1 & 5) so putting some questions here (please be gentle even if they are asked hundred times ) 1. It is possible to get interview without moving there, by putting Australian number with call forwarding option ( or its not good idea ? ) 2. We are planning to move to Sydney with around £25k saving to survive initial period so any thoughts on that please. 3. Anyone aware about any UK agency which recruits for Australia (placed booked for upcoming Australian job fair in London). Any other tip/advise/pointer will be really appreciated.
  6. Congrats for your positive ACS assessment and good luck for IELTS. By looking on other forums as well, I guess now ACS is taking around 8-9 weeks to sort out skill assessment so mine must be around the corner now.
  7. Last week I have submitted my documents to ACS (Australian computer society) and it has move to stage 4 so far. its obvious question as I can on the site, its showing 12 weeks processing time but I just wanted to get first hand experience.
  8. I don't think Post office attestation is accepted. I got it done by one solicitor who charged £5 per document in London.
