  1. Mine didn't change either and that was only January!
  2. Disgraceful. Not like they couldn't afford a taxi. Why do 'celebrity's' think they are above the law? An innocent man got killed by a drunk driver almost outside our house last weekend. When will people learn?
  3. I've just read that back and realised why you ? the nurse bit. I think i'm confusing myself now!! I think what I meant to ask was how long did u have to wait for an invite from putting in your EOI? Durr....sorry!!
  4. I don't know at all how they select people to apply. Some people seem to wait ages to be invited so I just thought 4 weeks seemed pretty quick from lodgement to grant! I have 65 pts too so maybe I won't have to wait too long. Thanks for info. X
  5. Xlornax - how many points did u have when you applied for your visa? 4 weeks sounds very quick or is that about average for nurses? Hope mine is that quick too! Makes up for the lengthy skills assessment process!
  6. Also, it's important to note, cytology screening tests are just that. Screening tests. They are not diagnostic. Individuals who are symptomatic and cervical cancer is suspected should be referred to a gynaecologist for further assessment, not just offered a smear test.
  7. Well said Rupert. The NHS is totally abused especially with the number of missed appointments or DNAs as we called them.
  8. I was merely pointing out the rationale for the current guidelines on cervical screening. I also said I think 25 is too late. Women receive an invite for age 25 and many don't get round to actually having the test until another couple of years have passed. In the UK boys are not yet given the hpv vaccine and I have no idea when they will, so I would agree that it's better to be in Aus for young people today. Interestingly, since the HPV vaccine was introduced in Australia research shows diagnosis of genital warts have reduced. So there is an additional benefit to young people having the vaccine.
  9. The screening age in Scotland & Wales is 20 but there has been discussions to raise it to 25 in line with England & N. Ireland.
  10. This is a very sad case indeed. I am a sexual health nurse and agree that the age for first tests should be lower than 25 however there are reasons why this guidance was introduced. Many young women were having unnecessary treatments to the cervix, following mild abnormalities detected, which, if left untreated would have returned to normal without intervention. Unnecessary treatment can cause scarring and may increase the risk of miscarriage in pregnant women. If there are concerns someone has symptoms of cervical cancer then women may be referred to gynaecologists directly for assessment and treatment. Hopefully one day the age for screening will be reduced again in the uk. With the immunisation of young girls now routine then hopefully cervical cancer cases will be rare in the future. Also, I have to point out...if a women attends the gp/practice nurse/community clinic in England and a smear test is performed the laboratory will not process it on someone below the age of 24y 6 months even if it has been taken.
  11. Sorry, didn't buy any books. Just did the free online tests and especially the ones provided free by the organisation when you book and pay for your test. They really help. Good luck.
  12. Go for the academic. Thats what nurses have to do so I would assume social workers would also.
  13. Sorry I can't help with that as we are using an agent however, I can tell you it might be worth getting 2 copies for your aphra application. Kelly
  14. Yay...how many weeks have u been waiting upto now Toodolou?
  15. Make sure you book the academic Ielts- the general won't be accepted by Anmac
  16. Baz I am using an agent and their solicitor and planning to have anmac forward docs to aphra. My agents solicitor is NOT a jp or notary public but they say they have never had an issue with aphra then rejecting them!! Aaarrrgghhhh can't decide whether to wait and see or just start again with certifying docs. Comments welcome!!
