  1. Good luck Wen!!

I found a group on Facebook where people in my local area could post things they were selling. In the last few weeks, when I realised I'd need to go to the tip with stuff, I advertised it on there for peanuts - gave away a bed, sold a fridge freezer for £10 and gave our washing machine away for free!! Some of it went to people snapping up a bargain, some of it went to someone setting up their first home and couldn't afford much. In the end, they saved us hiring a van to go to the tip and I hope karma happens!!!

Its been fun buying new out here!! Just wish my sofas weren't somewhere on the water and here!!!

It's been quite cathartic, clearing out old stuff. OH is enjoying it a little too much. He says I am a magpie....he's totally right, of course!

Hope your sofas are there soon, from their cruise across the world. Strange to think, the journey they take:wink: x

  2. We've just booked Crown and using a separate insurance company. The packers come on 13/14th October. I am still doing the yes/no to my own stuff....can't wait till it's all done.

We are carbooting stuff and trying to shift some on FB selling pages locally. Next step is Ebay for the bigger stuff, once I have finished sorting.......kids room next...eek!

Wishing I had started the clear out much much earlier..x

  3. Hi I haven't been on here in quite a while! Thank you all for your congrats!! We fly out 17th November so not so far now!! Good luck to anyone going through it all now, believe us it's worth it!!!

Excellent.. We'll be just in front of you, we fly on the 4th....It's suddenly got soo real!

  4. Arrived on Thursday morning. Staying n Biggera waters for a couple if weeks. All very surreal at the moment. Sorted out our bank accounts and Mobile phones yesterday. Going to Helensvale today to sign up with letting agents and hopefully get a rental sooner rather than later. Love the Gold Coast, good choice for us. Going to have a fun day tomorrow cos our 10 year old is not enjoying the boring stuff! My 18 year old is coping ok considering she left the love of her life behind in the UK. She doesn't start uni till next march so I hope she manages to meet some new friends through sports clubs etc... All in all we're doing ok.

Just want to mention that Singapore airlines were fantastic. We travelled with 5 Suit cases, a BMX bike, long board, 4 heavy hand luggage cases and the dogs ashes in hand! Didn't charge us any extra and the in flight service was amazin.

Glad you all arrived safe and sound. :smile:x

We're travelling with Singapore in November. Wow, that is alot to bring. I am curious, how did you get to much on board? Did you make special arrangements or was it all under the weight requirements? x

  5. I am currently getting quotes from the shipping companies but their rates are very high..eg 3.7 % highest so far!

I read here somewhere that it is more advisable to get separate insurance from your shipping company. The shipping company are pushing theirs quite hard, saying it covers everything, no quibbles etc etc.

But we are finding a grand a big hard to stomach on insurance.

Anyone out the other side with experiences, good or bad??

    Cheers.x

  6. This is our final night in the UK. Soooo many goodbyes. All made easier that I will see them all (hopefully) again in Jan when I pick my mum up. Staying with our closest friends tonight who are driving us to the airport tomorrow. Been a weird mixture of morose and bursting at the seams excitement. Just can't wait to be on the plane tomorrow and arrive safety on the other side.

Good luck, have a safe trip:-)

  7. We were hoping (no such chance) we could just go, as our families live in Ireland. But we are under pressure to fly back for a weekend to say our good byes. I am dreading it, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I dearly love my family but the idea of all that emotion makes me want to run a mile. Between us we have a rather large family! It's going to be a hard one, to be sure. Our friends, here, in the UK, want to throw a party. I like the idea of a BBQ in the garden. Invite all, and keep it fun!

We all understand, Kellie. Stay strong, hun. You'll get through it.x:hug:

  8. I was told a long time ago, to give my children, 'roots and wings'. I remind my mother of this every time she gets upset at the fact we are leaving soon.

Good Luck, Lakaal. Hope it all works out for you. Stay positive.x

  9. We're planning on a 20' container and shoving as much in as possible as the mo. Had some quotes and even with leaving out alot of stuff, we are over the quota by the equivalent of a 'sofa and a half'!

I plan to ebay/gumtree/Facebook selling page, as much stuff as possible. My kids are adamant they are taking everything from their room....2 boys (eldest nearly 12) worth of stuff. They have enough cars to fill an NCP carpark!!

......I am secretly sorting it out for them.

As your little one is so young, only take essentials, favourite special toys/books etc.

Bedding and towels...duly noted:-) My two could do with new quilts and covers.

  10. Don't jump on one part of the comment! The pound has had issues against the dollar - that's a fact and I'm glad we exchanged ours two weeks ago as I'd also be annoyed.

Good luck with it all - we're loving Brisbane! The 'omg what have we done' stage lasts a while!

    Keep in touch x

    Hey buddy!!

Good luck with it. It is a big day for you when you make. I am sitting in the middle of Brisbane drinking my coffee. It's warm and pleasant. About to go register for Medicare

Enjoy it. A huge sense of adventure. Take it all in.

Message me or Tina when you fancy a coffee. :-)

Wow, guys! You made it! I was wondering how you were getting on. :-)

  11. How exciting!!! Makes it all more real one those flights are booked :-)

    What date do you fly??

4th November:smile:...Singapore for 2 sleeps, then on to Adelaide!

How are things going with you guys? You all sorted? Oh my, you leave on the 26th!! x

  12. Thanks guys, will do. My head is in an absolute spin. Soo much to do on this side......

If it wasn't for all the advice and chat from PIO and PIA, :hug:I think I may have gone slightly mad.

Now we have an actual leave date....eek....:wink:x
