  1. Thanks for the info. I thought as much I just hoped I was wrong.
  2. I probably already know the answer to my question, but I guess I hope I'm wrong. My question is this... I need 20 points from my IELTS results. I can see no mention of an overall band score. Does this not count for immigration purposes? I have an overall score of 8 but not 8 in every section. I got 9, 9 ,7.5 and 7. Does this mean i need to resit?
  3. Hi, My husband is currently preparing his application to join WA Police in the hope they lift the maximum 10 year service rule (not holding my breath!). He has 15 years service. Anyone heard rumours it might be lifted like last year? It asks for service history to include; Current service history including the date of your engagement or attestation as a sworn Police Officer, period of employment and rank attained. Does anyone know what type of documents they require. He does have a letter confirming his employment as a police officer when he started but do they need more than this. Any help or advice would be appreciated just in case they lift the rule on length of service so he can apply. Surely its time for South Australia Police to recruit from UK too, last time was 2011 I believe.
  4. Apologies if this is a daft question but does a sponsored job role for a 457 visa have to be listed on the SOL or CSOL? We are finding jobs advertised for the role of Investigator (Complaints or Law related) which offer sponsorship but the role of Investigator doesn't seem to be on the lists (have seen Insurance Investigator). I have noticed Detective is on CSOL. Not sure how it all works. Any ideas anyone.
  5. We are in similar position. Husband is a police officer with 17 years in and I am a childminder, he is 41 and i am 40, time is ticking and we are anxious. Didnt get in wa recent recruitment drive in 2013. We are desperate to grab a life line to oz!
  6. Hi and welcome, I am a childminder level 3 too, my husband is a police officer, we are at a loss how to make the move too as he is on the CSOL but not on state occupation nomination lists. Hope someone comes along to advise you on your occupation, we both feel we have chosen the wrong occupation s now we decided to emigrate but where there's a will there's a way! I have heard a childcare level 3 isnt equivalent to same in oz and I may need to study further when I get there in maybe a daycare centre or kindy. Good luck to you both.
  7. Congratulations on getting through. Just curious, how much uk service do you have and is it all frontline policing. I ask because my husband was unsuccessful at last recruitment drive, he has 17 years service, some CID. Just interested to know if they took on anyone you know of with CID skills, long service etc. Wish you all the best in your new role.
  8. Thanks for your comments. Husband applied during WAs last recruitment drive but didnt get in, with 17 years service we are hoping that wasnt the reason his application was declined. Some think WA only wanted cops with under 7 years service even though it was open to any length of service. We will keep searching for a way in. We wish SA Police would recruit internationally, its been a while.
  9. Claire, thats great. Thanks so much. I can start planning now with all those points in mind. It's very much appreciated. Take care, Lisa.
  10. So you have a positive vetassess, was this easy to submit or do you have a migration agent doing it. We are about to submit vetassess request, what documents do they ask for?
  11. Wondering you know of anyone in same position as us. Husband is 41 year old uk police officer with 17 years service and wife and two kids, trying to find a route to a visa to Australia. With no international recruitment drives at present we looked at permanent resident visa. South Australia Police said they would consider an application from us if we held a pr visa. To get a 190 we need state nomination but police officer is not on any state lists at present. Can anyone suggest where we go from here...help much appreciated. We were hoping for Adelaide but looking everywhere now. Surely there must be other cops out there with many years service wanting to leave the low moral of police in the uk and gloomy skies!! Everyones thoughts and comments are appreciated. We are off to Down Under Live at Birmingham to try to find answers.
  12. That all makes sense, its South Australia Police we are most interested in but at this rate we will go where the recruitment option is. Not sure which way to turn now. Time is ticking as we are 41. Thanks for your time and comments.
  13. Yes, my husband was part of the last WA recruitment drive but unsuccessful at papersift. He has 16 years police service, most in CID so we are wondering if WA preferred to have less service and only frontline service, just a guess. Cant think of any other options as I am a qualified childminder which obviously isnt on any skills list. Thanks for your comments and time.
  14. Thanks for comments. Yes we hadnt heard of any international recruitment drives yet so we were hoping to go down the pr route and then apply directly or when we arrive. If we can get enough points via qualifications we wont need to go for a visa requiring state sponsorship. Thats our thoughts but we could be wrong.
  15. We were just looking for help regarding qualifications. We are maybe going to apply for a 190 visa but could be short on points. My husband has a work based qualification, from the police - Accredited PIP Level 2, Professionalising Inestigative Programme. We are unsure if this qualifies for any points. Also, to gain more points, my husband is prepared to begin studying for a Diploma or Degree but not sure which. his occupation is police officer and is on the CSOL. Does anybody know how the points of qualifications is awarded, ie types of qualifications accepted and how many points for each qualification. We are also wondering which states have police officer on their state occupation list. Do the lists change each year? Thanks.
  16. Wow, that's very interesting to read. We are hoping to move to Adelaide and were about to begin searching which part would be best for us. We are a family of 4, 2 children 6 and 8 years. We are looking for somewhere with good state schools and a safe area to enjoy the outdoors. Does anyone have any suggestions to help narrow down our search or warnings where best to avoid.
  17. Yes I think he will have to move there from the UK, then apply with everyone else. First I have heard I one is closing down, are SAPOL making cutbacks like UK police?
  18. Yes we have emailed them and they are happy for Garry to apply after he has obtained a pr visa. It would be good if they did have a recruitment drive for uk cops this year but who knows! he did apply for western australia police in 2013 but wasnt successful. That wasnt meant to be, maybe SAPOL is where we are meant to be! Adelaide was our first choice, so fingers crossed.
  19. My husband is a uk cop and wishing he was a South Australian cop! As there is no international recruitment drive at present, we are considering applying for permanent residency visa then applying as a new recruit to SAPOL. We are not sure, if successful with visa, if my husband would have to move out to Oz, then apply or could he apply whilst in UK and go to Oz if invited for interview and tests. With regard to costs we would prefer him to stay in uk until we knew he had a date to meet SAPOL rather than moving out there alone, paying rent and waiting for an interview. Has anyone else joined from uk this way. Time isnt on our side as he is 41 years young! Any help appreciated, would love to hear your stories.
  20. We are trying to decide whether move is for us too. Husband is a uk cop of many years and I was a civilian with uk police but am now a registered chilminder. We have two young shool age kids and know this wil be a huge life change for 4 of us. We want to move to provide kids with a more outdoor lifestyle and see more of what oz can offer. We are sick of the rain and cold and grey sky in england and feel this affects peoples moods and opportunities to plan time off together. A lot of kids here are obsessed with xbox, nintendo and other computer games, maybe if our weather was more consistently dry they could enjoy the outdoors more. We are not moving to have more money or bigger house, just more chances to live more outdoors and embrace the aussie lifestyle. Adelaide is our first choice. Our stumbling block is getting into oz police. With infrequent international recruitment drives, long service in specialised role not frontline, we do wonder if its best to get permanent residency visa first then apply to the police forces to start again as a recruit. Not sure if this is possible???? Havent given up hope yet but havent sarched as long as you. Good luck.
  21. Hi, my husband would be interested in your question too. He is an ex-prison officer in the UK and we are trying all ways to start a new permanent life in Oz. We are looking for sponsorship in similar roles, correctional officer, police officer (he is currently a serving UK cop) and investigator roles. At present, we just have no idea where to look as we don't have our heart set on any major city in Australia, looking at all options. Will be interesting to see your replies. Good luck.
  22. Sent on behalf of my husband. Police detective looking for investigator work. Seriously considering leaving police force to join private company as an investigator. Does anyone know any employer who could provide sponsorship from UK for an investigator role, 16 years experience as Detective within Police Force however now looking for work as investigator, experienced in insurance fraud/money laundering and "cash for crash" investigations. Any help/advice appreciated. Not limited to a particular area of Australia, our options are open at present. He is a very experienced detective and very hardworking, just needs a chance to show it.

  24. Hi, I have just replied to an older thread from yourself regarding ex Police wanted in Sydney for Investigator roles. My husband is looking for sponsorship for this role and has 16 years of experience as a police officer and 8 years as a police detective. He was lots of experience with surveillance/insurance fraud/vehicle crime/money laundering etc. Please feel free to contact us, he can email his CV if required. Thanks for your time.
