  1. Haha, special in the right way, right?!! I still haven't made my mind up if Aussies like the Brits yet??
  2. Hi Kerry and welcome to Melbourne! I like your sense of adventure, I spent all of 2012 determined to get here and I finally arrived in January this year. I don't know where the Aussies get about whinging poms because I've always had a bright outlook and I say, Life is too short and Life is what you make it! Oh and sanity, well it always helps if you're a bit of a loon sometimes, eh?!! Best wishes for the future, matt
  3. I got talked out of going and now I'm so annoyed (went to St Kilda instead!)...it sounds like it would of defo been something I'd of enjoyed! Next year i'll be there for sure
  4. I have been very surprised to of only met one person from the UK in the four weeks I've been here. She was an english girl on holiday too, so not technically living here! Also, one of my TAFE lecturers is Irish so that doesn't really count either!! For some reason, I had it in my mind that every other person I would meet when I got here would be from England?!!! In the TAFE, I'm the only British student they have and the place is massive with thousands of students! Maybe it's the area? I dunno, maybe it's me, having watched too many of those Wanted Down Under tv shows last year. It still surprises me to think about it...did anyone else think the same thing when they got here? Matt
  5. Super pysch'ed to be here for 1 month, but suffering that loneliness that goes with leaving friends and family! If you're interested in hooking up to have fun & help me explore together, let me know. Kind regards, matt
  6. *kicks himself* Just missed it! I look forward to the next one
  7. As thonechris says, Highett is a nice area and Southlands is a great shopping centre (maybe even better than any I was used to in UK) and public transport is good. It takes about 20/25 mins to get the train into Melbourne. I agree that at rush hour the Nepean Highway does get busy. The area is really suburban and reminds me of the Surrey/Hampshire districts I came from in UK. I can't say I know about schools (I don't have children) but the best TAFE are right on your doorstep here and the airport and amount of commercial businesses will mean you could get work too. Good luck
