  1. Thanks for the feedback everyone..much appreciated. I think i'll take myself to the accountant to make sure I tie up any loose ends. Seems like a lot of work or maybe its just because its all new? I'm going to open up at another bank account with NAB have any work related payments made into there and then transfer my tax and super into a savings account that i'll run along side and make tax/super contributions on a 3 monthly basis, would that sound about right? I have an ABN but my current employer has me on TFN but this may change.. I'm trying to figure out whats going to be best. It could end up a mixture of me working on my own ABN and then working for him on TFN or would this end up to difficult? Is workers comp different to income protection insurance? I know my current employer has workers comp that I have had to use before for an accident so I think ill certainly need it.
  2. Hi All, Just wondering what cover you would recommend for a family.. don't think we'd be interested in the hospital cover but ive heard a lot of people have the extras? Whats the 'norm' if there is one? We're a family of 3...2 adults, 1 baby. Dad is VERY accident prone! Tends to require Physio ALOT. haha Thanks
  3. Hi, Hope this is the right place. Using my partners account to try and gain some info/feedback. I've been in Aus on a 457 Visa and have recently had my PR granted. So basically I've been on Payroll the entire time I have been here but now I have the option to do some jobs on my own (I'm a plumber by trade) So I just want to make sure as far as finances go that I have everything covered. Are there any Tradies on here could give me info on what I need as far as working for myself. I'll be doing a mixture of working with my current employer, doing my own jobs/contracts. 1- Bank Accounts, Do I need a business one? Ideally I'd like to keep everything separate from our everyday account. 2- Super, I would like to continue paying my super can I do this into the same fund details I have given to my employer? 3- Insurances.. do I need or would you recommend any income insurance? 4- ABN, I have an ABN from when I first arrived in Aus but I hadn't used it how does this work? 5-Tax Contributions how is this paid, how often and how do you figure out how much tax I should be paying? As you can tell im a bit lost and would really appreciate some guidance. Back in the UK I worked with the same company I done my apprenticeship with for 10 years so have never had the experience in being self employed. Thanks- Tommy
  4. Any WA Plumbers out there? We've just got had our PR granted and wondering do any WA Plumbers have some guidance on what's next? We're already in Perth and my partner has been working under a 457 as a Roof Plumber (this does not require a licence) To get our PR he completed the Skills Assessment as a General Plumber (this is his trade) It is my understanding that to gain a licence to do Plumbing Work here he needs to complete some kind of course and it has to be done within a set timeframe. He's not considering going back into General Plumbing as he's doing really well with the Roof Plumbing but we'd like to get the licence as a back up. So my questions; What is the course? Where is it held? Length? Cost? Other courses you would recommend to keep up with the Plumbing? Such as Gas? He never completed this back in the UK. Thanks
  5. Great Thanks Guys! Hopefully you are correct
  6. Yes sorry!!! Confusing!!! Entered December 2011 (it was the working holiday 417) 457 Granted Feb 12 PR April 14 Have not left the country during this period. I really wanted to make sure if we did leave it didn't interrupt our eligibility when the time comes. So if we intend to apply in February 16 we cannot be out of the country for more than 90's overall until that date?
  7. Thanks for your reply- How did you arrive at February 2016?
  8. Hi All, Was hoping someone might have the experience of the path to Citizenship, I've read conflicting information. When are we eligible? This is our timeline; Entered Oz on Holiday Visas December 2012 February 2012 - 457 Granted April 2014- Permanent Residency Granted Neither of us have left the country within this time. Not intending on chasing this down as priority but I'd like to have an idea so we're aware of any requirements we may need to meet. TIA

  17. There was a link to complete meds as soon as the visa was lodged. points/tiers etc at this stage has no bearing on the timeframe you receive your grant in.
  18. 13 weeks lodged today!!! Have only been asked to supply a new passport photo!! What the frig is going on? 5 weeks with a CO and not one thing did she ask for.. Seems there is no rhyme or rhythm with these guys. Grrr Bored of waiting! Moan Finished....
  19. Hi Nick, my my partner is a plumber on schedule 2 list also. We had to provide evidence of a job offer but we are already here and he is employed by a good freind do this wasn't a problem.. At least it's just an offer and the employer is not held to honour it. I couldn't imagine how we could have gotten one without contacts here.
  20. Cant get through or don't want to wait until someone answers? I call all the time, always get through, you must been prepared to hold for at least 20 mins, have waited up to 45 sometimes. Thursday AM WST time is the best time to call (quietest period) or so the call centre tell me. Good Luck
  21. That is very good to hear- Thanks DeeJay!
  22. Yes thats correct, although I thought that would of held us up for an invitation but it only took 1 week, we did have 70 points though. Keep us posted on your timescale.. Hopefully you have better luck!
  23. The email has been sent to most people when their case officers have been assigned, others have asked and had the same response, I have rang immi twice and been told the same thing- they are issuing grants in accordance with priority processing. The man I spoke to this afternoon said decision ready cases will take priority (meds uploaded, pccs, no further evidence required) which is where we're at right now..8 weeks lodged and 1 week with a case officer! Can only hope for the best!
