  1. You can pick up Australian plugs from Bunnings for about $2, a lot less than buying new things over here. I brought some multi-way extension cables so I had to change even less plugs.
  2. I've always found two things useful in interviews. 1. Be yourself. 2. When asked about something you've done, use S.T.A.R. Situation, task, action, result. S. What was happening at the time. T. The task you were given/identified. A. What you did. R. The result of your actions. Can't help you on the midwife bit. The best things in life aren't things.
  3. I hate flying too. However I use a different method to making several stops... Get it over with ASAP, just like ripping of a plaster. I'm flying Manchester - Dubai - Perth with only a 1hr45 stop over. Just enough time to swap planes and not enough time to let the anxiety build up again. The best things in life aren't things.
  4. I've found the best thing to cut SIM cards with are a sharp pair of scissors. If you look online, you'll be able to find a template so your cutting it correctly. The best things in life aren't things.
  5. I don't like the others but this one has character. It reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wrights "Falling Water". The best things in life aren't things.
  6. There are so many crap towns in the UK. My home town stockport is pretty bad but it's not the worst. Of all the places I've been, it's a toss up between Blackpool or Rhyll. If the the world ever needs colonic irrigation, one of them is getting the tube. The best things in life aren't things.
  7. Does anyone else think it's a bit odd that he has to ask permission from Her Majesty's representative? The best things in life aren't things.
  8. Ok. I started this and I may as well put on the 100th comment (thanks for all the differing opinions btw). This question has bugged me the last couple of days and made me think. As far as I see it, there are 2 types of immigrants. Asylum and economic. The asylum seekers are fleeing a really crappy situation in their home country. This can be due to race, religion, political view or sexual orientation. These people deserve our help and support (whichever country we're in) because we are all human beings who should have a right to a peaceful and happy life. The economic migrants, such as myself, are looking to improve their life. This can be fiscal or intrinsic. Unfortunately some economic migrants pretend to be asylum seekers through greed or a lack of compassion for people in genuine need of help. Stopping the boat people from getting into Australia could stop the false asylum seekers from attempting the journey. It could also remind the genuine asylum seekers that there are ways of making applications for asylum without having to risk their lives. As a bonus, it would also cut off the income for the scumbags that are human traffickers. Profiting from the desperation of people in need surely makes them the lowest of the low. So, in my opinion.. It probably is a good idea in the long term. It's just a shame that its been introduced by politicians, the people who, in my moral scale, rank as low as human traffickers. 9. As I'm still in the UK (for now), I'd like to hear the Australian perspective on today’s announcement that all boat people will be sent to PNG. Is this just a cynical attempt to get more votes for labor, or is have too many asylum seekers died trying to get to Australia in rickety boats? Part of me thinks that these poor beggars are just trying to make a new life for themselves by escaping some of the worst countries in the world. On the other hand part of me thinks there are a lot of good countries they've passed to make it to Oz.
  10. I'm not going to check on mine, the lazy cow hasn't brought her milk in for 5 days! But seriously, maybe we should all check in on our elderly neighbours throughout the year, not when its very hot or very cold...
  11. I go on there to see how many red arrows I can get The best things in life aren't things.
  12. That's a varied car history. Cheap small cars under $5k that are reliable and safe... Toyota Echo (Yaris). Hyundai Getz. Neither of them are particularly fun though. The best things in life aren't things.
  13. Have been looking for a while myself. My father-in-law lives in perth and said that it can be difficult to get parts for some European cars. We're in the situation where we'll have to buy a cheap old car at first. Part of me kinda want to get a Falcon or Commodore but I think I'll follow the golden rule... If you haven't got much money, buy Japanese. The best things in life aren't things.
  14. Great news! I glad your luck has finally changed for the better. It was sad to hear about your predicament but my faith in human nature was raised by the responses. Fifi, Very Stormy et al: I salute you ? The best things in life aren't things.
  15. I'm moving in September. Have a look at gumtree.com.au for cars (they're not cheap). I'm sure other people will respond with what you have to do when you buy one. The best things in life aren't things.
