  1. Hi Is it allowable to place a personal advert on Pomsinoz (for migration related items, eg IELTS material?)
  2. I've been really pleased with NAB since moving to Oz two and a half years ago. My experiences have been that they really "get" that migrant banking needs can be different and need a personal service.
  3. I've used Airbnb very successfully and have also met other people who have used Airbnb while settling in and looking for longer term accommodation and jobs.
  4. A week to go to Noosa and really looking forward to it..........thought I'd give this a bump.
  5. Hi Tickled Pink - despite my profile saying Melbourne (I've updated it now) I live Brisbane north side.
  6. Anybody doing the Noosa Triathlon 3rd November this year who would like to meet up (I live in Brisbane) or keep in touch to hook-up at the event? I call myself somebody who likes to occasionally do triathlons, rather than a triathlete. I like to set a goal but I'm not hardcore competitive!
  7. I also got a loan through NAB, on a 457. It took a bit of "to and fro'ing" to provide info and reassurances, the key seemed to be it needs a human processing it rather than say an online automated tick the boxes type application.
  8. I went with NAB and have been very impressed, they've given a real personal approach to understanding a migrant's requirements.
  9. I know this house, it really is a fantastic place in a fantastic location. For those with a family you'd struggle to find better in Eatons Hill.
  10. Many thanks for all of that. Paul B - I will definitely contact you about towns I'm likely to stop at.
  11. Thanks Bobj - that's useful stuff. The guide and map on http://www.newellhighway.org.au is also pretty good.
  12. Hi all I'm planning on driving down the Newell Highway to Melbourne from Brisbane soon. Does anybody have experience of whether it's necessary or desirable to book in advance overnight accommodation along the route? I'd prefer not to restrict myself to having to reach a certain town by a certain time, so would like to just find a hotel/motel when I get to a suitable town to stop overnight. Thanks
  13. After years using Windows and lots of thinking about the pros and cons, switched to Apple this year.....bought a Macbook and love it
  14. Just stumbled across this thread as I'm looking at flight info. I've been convinced that the QLD wildlife is poised to attack my children when they emigrate in January, M2M's info does at least make me think things could be worse
  15. Just watched it on the TV in the UK - impressive!
  16. Hi all (Also posted this on Life in Victoria). Things are nearly in place for me to move to Oz and start work in Melbourne CBD on a 6 month contract from next February. It may me that I'll be able to extend the contract, but at the moment I have to work on worse case that I need somewhere to live just for 6 months. I'll be on my own and I reckon I'm looking for a studio/one bedroom apartment/unit. My view on commuting is that anything under an hour each way would be good. The ideal would be that the whole commute could be done on a bike (up to about 25km) or public transport (and either walk, bike or car from home to the local station). I have furniture and possesions with family in Brisbane. My initial thought was that I would rent a typical unfurnished place for around $300 - $350 per week and move my stuff down from Brisbane. However, I'm wondering if a fully furnished short term let is the thing to go for. Considering that gas/electric/water costs would be included it may be worth the extra money, which will save me having to move my stuff and also I assume I'd have to book a short term let for a couple of weeks while I'll secure an unfurnished place (and the chances of getting one with only a 6 month contract?) So my questions are: 1. Advice on areas/suburbs to consider? (I'm in my 40s, divorced/single, don't want to be right in the middle of the action, would be happy somehere fairly lively or quiet but either way easy access to meet people/do things etc. Being close to a beach is a nice to have, certainly not a must have). 2. The best way of securing accomodation for a 6 month period. 3. Are house shares/lodgings common and if so the best place to look for them? Many thanks!
  17. Thanks for that. There seem to be jobs out there, now putting in some work updating and modifying my CV!
  18. Mobile providers do have coverage prediction maps on their websites which might help, two for example: http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/coverage-networks/our-coverage/coverage-search/ http://www.vodafone.com.au/aboutvodafone/network/checker
  19. You'll soon have some space again.....but then no possessions!
  20. Hi Dave Thanks for that. Good timing and useful to read, as I was just today looking at at a FIFO job advert (telecoms related) and wondered if the FIFO life might suit me. Cheers Lloyd
  21. Hi all I’m looking for job opportunities in Oz (employer sponsored 457, or ideally PR ENS sponsored). I have over 20 years technical/engineering experience in radiocommunications/telecommunications and then more recently project engineering, project management and relationship management roles in the same industry. I’m trying to pitch my CV, job searches and selection of appropriate CSOL occupation to maximise my opportunities. Does anybody have views or experience of whether to promote more the technical side or project/management side of my skills and experience? Thanks
