  1. We applied Aug 19. My wife got test email and completed the test last week. I am yet to receive the test email.
  2. Need to get Identity Declaration form filled for my 6 week old baby. There is a section where the person making the declaration has to write how many years he/she has known the applicant. What should be put down here? Is if ok to write 0 years?
  3. Now the waiting begins. Hope the department allocates extra resources to clear the backlog and also organize extra citizenship ceremonies as they have done in the past.
  4. http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2017/10/18/migrants-no-longer-limbo-citizenship-changes-killed-senate "A spokesperson for Mr Dutton has confirmed to SBS News that migrants who have already put in applications for citizenship, and those who still plan to, will be assessed under current requirements rather than the tougher measures announced by the government earlier this year."
  5. Per current law you need to be here a total of 4 years with the last 1 year as PR... Things can change depending on whatever legislation will pass.
  6. This is still confusing: Schedule 1, item 136, page 48 (lines 5 to 7), omit “applications made under Division 2 of Part 2 of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 on or after 20 April 2017”, substitute “pledges of allegiance made under the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 on or after the commencement of this item” They are saying pledges of allegiance made after the commencement of this item. Does this mean if your citizenship ceremony is after July 2018, you will still fall under the new rules? Very confusing!
  7. I'm not sure either way. I was responding to the poster's concern that he might lose the application fee if he applied now. If someone knows for sure either way, it makes the poster's decision easier.
  8. I understand your predicament but nobody really can give you the answer you're looking for. Either you apply now and risk losing the application fee OR don't apply and risk missing out applying under the old rules. That's the decision you have to make. Nobody really knows if the new rules will pass or be thrown out or there will be some compromise in the middle.
  9. We will be eligible under the new rules. We arrived here on PR so the new residency requirements don't affect us. We will have to give the English test if the new rules pass.
  10. We will be eligible to apply for citizenship this month. Our child is due to be born in September after our application has been submitted. From what I read, I will have to submit Form 1022 – Notification of changes in circumstances to update details of my new-born. My question is can I scan form 1022 and upload it online after I submit my application? Do I need to submit any documents of my child like birth certificate etc? The child will not be included in the parent's application since he/she will be a citizen at birth.
  11. This line hidden away in the amendment: "The bill extends the maximum period of time where the minister can delay an applicant making the pledge of allegiance from 12 months to two years to better align with time frames of some complex investigations." Looks like increased waiting time for ceremonies.
  12. We will be arriving in Melbourne next month and looking to buy a car too. According to Vicroads, we need to show evidence of residence in Victoria to obtain a license or register a car: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Licences/GetYourLs/EvidenceOfIdentityDocuments.htm http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/WhatHasToBeRegistered/EvidenceOfIdentityDocuments.htm What document did you show to prove residence in Victoria? We won't a rental lease initially as we will be staying in short term accommodation for a month. Also, do we need to give any tests or is the license automatically converted?
  13. We are an American couple living in Atlanta at the moment. We have recently been granted the 175 visa. We are looking to move to Sydney late next year. We have booked flights for a 1 week reccie trip in January. I was looking for recommendations on how and where to book a hotel, preferably close to the airport. During our stay I am looking to get an idea of which neighborhoods we would like to live at when we finally move. Neither of us have jobs there at the moment. I work from home and plan to continue in the same job after we move. My wife is a school teacher and will look for a job after our move. We are looking for anywhere about an hour or less drive from CBD at about $500/week. Any recommendations would be great. I was also looking at hiring a car during our trip and wanted to know if I can drive with my US driving licence during our trip. Also what sort of car insurance will I need? Will insurance be provided by the car hire agency or will I need to purchase it separately? Where is a good place to get some Australian currency? Should I arrange for that in the US or get it after I land in Sydney. I have a couple of credit cards that don't charge foreign transaction fees and plan on using them wherever possible. I wanted to keep some Australian currency handy also.

  15. I submitted my PCC on 4/10 and waiting. Meds were finalized on 14/9.
  16. We submitted our PCC on 4/10 and our meds have been finalized. Hoping it won't be a long wait.
  17. If I am granted the 175 visa and then renew my passport before validating my visa, how do I inform DIAC about this change? I know I have to submit Form 929 but where should I submit the form if I am already granted the visa? I currently live in the USA.
  18. I'm in a similar situation. I've applied for 175 visa in June and waiting for a CO to be allocated. I am getting married at the end of August and want to add my spouse to the application after the wedding. I only have evidence worth 2-3 months such as joint bank accounts, joint car insurance and joint credit cards. We do have pictures dating back a year. Is this sufficient for GSM?
  19. This is for a 190 visa. I have received an invitation to apply. I am getting married at the end of August and was thinking of applying for the visa jointly with my spouse after the wedding since the invitation was valid for 60 days. The website is a little confusing. On http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/including-family-members/ it says: To include your partner in your application, there are requirements and evidence that must be provided to prove dependency. You must prove that you and your partner are: · legally married, or · in a de facto relationship. Acceptable forms of proof include: · a certified copy of your marriage certificate issued by an official registry office, or · evidence to demonstrate that you have been in a genuine and ongoing relationship for the 12 months immediately before making the application, unless there are compelling reasons. Then it goes on to say: Other requirements include providing: · evidence of the history of your relationship, through a signed statement regarding o how, when and where you first met o how your relationship developed o your domestic arrangements, that is, how you support each other financially, physically and emotionally and when this level of commitment began o any periods of separation, when and why the separation occurred, for how long and how you maintained your relationship during the period of separation o your future plans. · evidence of a genuine and continuing relationship, within the four broad categories of evidence below o financial aspects of the relationship, such as: o joint ownership of your house or joint names on a lease o correspondence addressed to both of you at the same address o details of financial commitments including bank statements, and any joint liabilities. o the nature of the household, such as: o any joint responsibility for the care and support of children o your living arrangements including sharing responsibilities within the home. o social context, such as: o evidence that you and your partner are generally accepted as a couple socially such as joint invitations o evidence of common friends o assessments by your friends and family of your relationship o joint travel or joint participation in sporting, social or cultural activities. o your commitment, such as: o the duration of your relationship including knowledge of each other o intention that your relationship will be long term through things such as the terms of your wills, and o correspondence and telephone accounts to show that contact was maintained during any periods of separation. So does this mean that if a couple have been married for less than 12 months, the spouse cannot be added to the same 190 application?
  20. For a married couple, it it enough to provide the marriage certificate or do we have to provide similar evidence as is required for a de-facto relationship? I am getting married at the end of August and was looking to file the application together with my spouse after I am married.
  21. Which country are you from? Is it a high risk country? Applicants from high risk countries usually have to go through external checks.
  22. What silly mistake did you make? Maybe it will help others avoid it. I see no reason why you cannot reapply for Victoria SS.
  23. I lodged my 175 application just before the July 1 deadline. I am trying to upload documents though the link I was provided but the website seems to be down. I have been trying for a few hours now but always get "Network Error" message. Any ideas what's going on?
  24. Did you have SS prior to July 1 or did you get SS after you submitted EOI?
