1. UK landline phones will work in Australia with these adapters. They're $15 including postage from VIC. I've got a DECT cordless set and an old UK bell phone and they both work fine with these. UK phones do not have ring capacitors in them which is why they may not ring in Australia. These adapters have the capacitors in them so they enable UK phones to ring. PM me if you're interested... Thanks, Dave
 2. I need to go back to the UK for a week in Jan. My PR visa says I must arrive before July 2014, which I have. do I need to tell anyone/get another visa? apologies if this is obvious!
 3. That's great Nick, cheers... the problem is I start off looking off at $5K cars and end up around the $15-20K mark! You mentioned stamp duty and RWC, on a car costing $10K, what would the stamp be? Would you assume the dealer would provide the RWC or is that something you'd negotiate? Thanks for your help :-)
 4. When we arrive in Melbourne later this month we'll be staying with some friends while we find a place to rent. Should we ask to use their address to get a Vic license, Medicare, car insurance etc and to give to the bank etc? (even though we may be there for only a week or two) I reckon this makes sense as I assume we'll need ID and an address for lots of things like renting/insurance? I was wondering what others did, and also how long it took to find, apply and move in to a rented place? Thanks in advance
 5. Thanks Folks, brilliant advice Nikko, I've got 7 years no claims and AXA are now sending me proof in the post... :-) can I ask what company you have your insurance with? cheers
 6. Thanks for that folks... Had a good look and the prices, pretty steep as compared to the UK, a small price to pay though - might even get one with a sunroof ;-) i like the idea of having 3rd party insurance included in the Rego, is the Rego the same price for all cars? - and is the RWC like an MOT in the respect it has to be valid all the time but you don't need a fresh one when you buy the car? thanks again Dave
 7. We're arriving in Melbourne from the UK in a couple of weeks :-) we're staying with friends in Lilydale until we find a place to rent. I want to buy a car within a week or two max. Do I need a Vic licence first? Is insurance reasonable and if the car has a few months of Rego left can it be transferred to me? also, do private sellers and dealers expect buyers to haggle a bit as they would in the UK? thanks in advance :-) Dave
 8. Maybe you could get a letter from the awarding university supporting your case? I know they don't accept the GTP as a recognised route either!

Hi Michelle, I've just noticed your message! Sorry for the delay... We're in Keresley on the old pit site. I was born in Holbrooks and Ruth's from the Isle of Aran. We've just got state sponsorship from Victoria but we want to be out before Megan goes to school. (about 2 years ish)

So you're in Melbourne already... great! How's it going? Whereabouts are you and what do you think the place? We're not sure whereabouts we're heading so any advice would be welcome!

Thanks for the message....
