1. Oh, thanks Chellywell....much appreciated !
  2. One of the places I loved - though not strictly in Liverpool itself.... (but what a lovely excuse to take a ferry across the Mersey) - was Port Sunlight.... I remember a Parian ware sculpture in the Lady Lever Art Gallery which was soooo beautiful - but I can't find it on any of the gallery's websites.... It was of a woman & either one child or two - can't remember....but if you looked at it from one side it was the picture of idyllic maternal beauty & serenity & as you walked around to the other side the woman looked stressed & disheveled....like a woman who'd looked after children all day... (!!) All done with the most subtle changes, like the lightest stroke of a brush - but in marble.... I last saw it in the early '90s & have never forgotten it..... Perhaps someone from the area will know the one I mean.... I think it was a permanent piece & not part of a 'visiting exhibition'... Great place for a day out....
  3. "......its the people who make my city......" You are so right Pablo.... When I was there I hit hard times for a while & needed to get rid of a lot of 'stuff'.... The 'good' stuff went up to Charnock Richard antiques market but the 'ordinary' stuff was piled high both in & on my little car & driven at an ungodly hour through the tunnel from the Wirral to do the 'market' under the Cathedral in the underground circular car park.... You had to be there really, really early to get a space 'inside' & I was rigged rotten for my (perceived) 'plummy' accent.... ( "Yes that's right - I thought I was born with a silver spoon - but it turned out to be E.P.N.S & now I'm selling it 'cos the servants are revolting" ) ( In Liverpool this has to be delivered dead-pan.... ) I don't think I ever had to lift anything down off my roof-rack ever again.... At least three burly 'scousers' would appear by magic to help me unload.....you'd go a long way to find such generosity of spirit in a city....
  4. ".....but very few places have there own defined spirit ......liverpool has it ....." I agree with this totally... I lived in Liverpool (& subsequently in the Wirral) for over a year & absolutely loved it.... The city is vibrant, the wit of the people is legendary - it has a 'buzz' all of its own.... Extreme wealth (& fame) & extreme poverty - this city has seen it all & the architecture & atmosphere exudes that.... If you're the kind of person who likes hard-working people with a tendency to take themselves not too seriously & have a razor-sharp sense of humour, you'll love it....
  5. Well all the stuff I was 'going-to-do' this morning just got forgotten......as I just couldn't stop reading..... Absolutely fabulous Bob.....am about to add 'six bags of jelly-babies' to my shopping list 'cos I wanna be on your list of autographed copies of your book ! :notworthy:

Hi 'Shoes' !

Thank you so much - really appreciated.....

Still wading through everything 'this end' before being able to fly with my furries.....the cost of flying them all out is a knee-weakening sum !

My daughter-in-law in Korea has just had a huge op. so landing on her for New Year probably isn't a good idea....so won't make it back for Christmas OR New Year......

However, living in England is also requiring knee-weakening sums what with the heating & stuff like 'T.V. license (you forget about things like that when you're away from it !

It'll be me & three furries again this year - my son & his wife here are definitely NOT doggie people & my grandson has been brought up (by his mother mainly) to believe that 'dogs are bad' & screams the place down every time he sees my two, it's such a pity as they love children - especially my big soppy Abby.

Not worth the hassle, frankly - I'll have to wait until he's old enough to back-pack to have him to stay !

Happy Christmas !

    Galahad & Friends

Most of my friends have four legs....some have two.... I love (& ride) horses & always have dogs... My horse is in Australia - waiting in a paddock in Queensland - being looked after in the manner to which he always wished to become accustomed... His name Sir Galahad (Hal for short) He is a thoroughbred ex-racehorse, 16.2hh & a true black....although he can look brown just after clipping! I have two dogs, Abby & Skippy, both here with me in the UK & all prepared & ready to return along with my cat, Purdy, 'home' to Australia, the adopted land I love so much.
