  1. Hello, having a look at where/how to submit my visa to Australia House to be processed. I am wanting to know what methods people used to post theirs in and their experiences on that. On their website it says: 'Postal Address We prefer that all documents are sent to us by ordinary mail. Items received at the Australian High Commission by ordinary mail reach Immigration Officers more quickly than those received by courier (messenger service). All applications and correspondence should be posted to the address below. Please note that courier deliveries are not accepted at this address, see information regarding courier further below. Migration Branch Australian High Commission Strand London WC2B 4LA We recommend all passports and valuable documents are sent by registered mail to ensure a trackable and secure delivery. Special Delivery is recommended in the UK as this is a trackable service, clients in Ireland may use Registered Post. Clients in the UK should also enclose a pre-paid self-addressed Special Delivery envelope for the secure return of their documents (other arrangements will be made for clients outside of the UK). Please ensure that you include a contact telephone number and email address (if available) with all written enquiries.' I know that means I can't use Fedex etc. But I want to use more than just first class as it is really important, certified copies etc, is Royal Mail special delivery okay? Any input with this is really welcome
  2. Hello, Can you certify copies of things in Australia if I am applying from England (but visiting Aus soon, so I am wondering if I can certify things whilst I am there). Or do I have to certify in England? My research hasn't really given a clear answer if this is possible.
  3. Hello, Just wondering, if I have premium bonds and move to Aus, am I allowed to keep them and I suppose I need to let the ATO know about them as well. But I'd only get taxed if I won something? Can anyone help?
  4. Hello, For the PVM / Partner Visa, are there any forms for the statatory declarations of OTHER family members / people to fill in. Where would I find these forms or acquire them from? and by that I mean the ones that family members fill in detailing that your relationship is real etc. (I'm not exactly sure if they are different from the ones that a teacher/doctor etc fills in like this one http://www.ag.gov.au/Statutorydeclarations/Documents/Statutory%20Declaration%20PDF.PDF ). Thanks for your help!
  5. Thank you everyone. We have looked at a WHV but we thought that we'd rather just go for the (in our minds) simplest option of just going down the PVM route, without having to get a job sorted first before we can apply for a visa for me. As far as I'm aware we aren't eligible for the partner visa.
  6. I am now engaged to my australian partner, as of 1st July I made a picnic and did it at Clumber Park if you've ever heard of it. ( http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/clumber-park/ ) Anyway, now to get that Prospective Marriage Visa sorted..
  7. Thank you very much for your replies. @SallyandKev It is one of the main reasons we would choose somewhere on the Mornington Penisula as it's quiet but still good and close to the city I am sure we will love where we choose!

More good news for those wanting the $ to drop
  9. I think any of them would be a good choice, but Melbourne or Sydney are both wonderful cities (that I've been to).
  10. Thought i'd go for some rain, sun and temperature comparisons, ended up taking up a lot longer than I thought it would lol. Even if you don't find this interesting, I found it intruiging to see that London is the worst place to be (unless you like it cloudy and cold). Melbourne's yearly rainfall: 651mm Sydney's yearly rainfall: 1214mm (really surprised by this, compared to Melb. http://www.weatherzone.com.au/climate/station.jsp ) London's yearly rainfall: 584mm Melbourne's yearly average of sun per day: 6.0 hours per day Sydney's yearly average of sun per day: 6.8 hours per day London's yearly average of sun per day: 5.4 hours per day This is the minimum average and max average of each over the year. Melbourne's yearly average temperatures: 19.8C and 10.2C Sydney's yearly average temperatures: 21.7C and 13.8C London's yearly average temperatures: 14.9C and 7.2C So Sydney is the hottest and the wettest yet has the most sun out of the 3, meaning there's more cloudy days, particularly London! Grr /geography teacher mode off
  11. A large number of koalas have chlamydia. One Direction were peed on by a koala and were worried they got chlamydia from it! http://www.metro.co.uk/showbiz/896847-one-direction-in-chlamydia-scare-after-handling-koalas-down-under
  12. The name Australia is taken from the Latin word meaning Southern (Australis).
  13. I think the UK is cheaper with the NHS involved. My Mum has had it and it really improved her eyesight.

In the month and a half since this thread was created, it's gone up nearly 10 cents. For all the people wanting it to (including me) I hope it SLOWLY but surely continues this way - and it looks like it will

Hoff I immediately thought of you when I saw that the rate had gone up quite a bit higher today on Europe's news! lol Every cent higher compared to the pound and it would be good for it to go up a few more before I move to Aus, but after that, Aus can turn into a global finance power with the best exchange rate and economy as far as I am concerned
  16. Goede morgen my friend! Let us know how the call went, good news is always good

    Just saying hi!

Hello, it's really good that you are getting everything together! And travelling on holiday to where you want to live is a really good idea so that you can get a feel to it (make sure you treat it as a scouting trip though, not just a holiday !). I'm sure you will love it.
  18. I tip when I think it was memorable/really good service. It isn't expected to tip, and really good service isn't expected either
  19. I have none by blood, but will have lots by low
