  2. Hi all, my husband & I arrived in June & we live in Point Cook. We both work in the CBD though & would be interested in meeting up for drinks with people. We're 27 & 30, no kids.
  3. Well I had my last exam today which as been 3 years in the making! Me & 2 of the girls I study (&work with) went to the uni pub for dinner & a drink to celebrate & we were gossiping about work & we started talking about how we've become better friends while studying. All of a sudden it hit me, for the 1st time that Im not going to see them again for a long time, if at all. Got a bit emotional, the first wobbly moment I've had. I'm sure I'll have plenty more between now & the 20th June!!! Thanks for listening! xx
  4. I know what you mean vixxy, I've had my first exam today, got one Wednesday & the last one Friday. My head just isn't in it, meant to be revising now.......!! Realised I've only got just over 3 weeks left at work & I'm already worrying about finding work over there! Keep having to think of how exciting it is going to be and leave the worrying to my OH! lol Good luck with your exam!
  5. Hiya Sianl555, My OH & I don't arrive for another month but I would be interested in getting together if you're still looking then! I'm 27 & hubby is 30. He starts work 3 days after we land & as I don't yet have any work lined up, I'm going to be spending my time finding a long term rental & hopefully arranging interviews :-S Hope the meet ups continue Petals so we can attend the next one Kayleigh x
  6. Hiya, I'm not 100% sure as I work in a day nursery so have been looking into day care in Oz, but I think what you want to look for is family day care. http://www.familydaycare.com.au/index.php/main/Home#M55 this site looks pretty informative! I know from my research that to work in day care I will have to get my UK qualifications formally assessed before I can work in a setting. I'm not sure if you'll have to do the same. Hope this helps x
  7. Hi Vixxy, Sorry to hear you're having problems. We had 3 cats and when we found out that we were going to be emigrating we had a major chat about what we were going to do. We went from taking all 3, to rehoming all 3 to eventually rehoming 2 of them. The 2 we rehomed although were happy with us, we knew that they wanted/needed more. Tammy would have preferred to be an only cat as she was a little shy and the other cats were more confident. Trixy was desperate to go outside (our cats were indoor) and as she was only 11 months (the other 2 being 4) she just wanted to play with the older 2 but they didn't often want to play! We found perfect homes for them both, exactly what we had dreamed for them both. It was emotional and at one point we just wanted to get them back. But they have both settled in really well and have everything they have ever wanted. We know that we made the right decision in rehoming them. Tiggy is the one that has to stay with my Dad for a month and then in quarantine for a month!! Whatever you do I really hope it all works out for you. Think about your babies and what would be best for them too. Kayleigh x
  8. Hi G & Cardffslim, How exciting that we're all going to be arriving at roughly the same time & that we've all got the same concerns! lol I think we've come to conclusion that we are going to 'hide' Tiggy, at least at first to ensure we find somewhere. We're lucky that we've got 4 weeks accomidation and that we also have a month after that until Tiggy arrives. We've been doing research on where abouts we want to live and we've made up a short list for me to go and visit when we arrive. Do either of you have any idea where you're going to be? Elsternwick was highly recommended and it does look perfect but we'll see when we arrive! Be great to keep in touch with you guys to see how you're getting on Kayleigh x
  9. We are banking on this being right as we has 2 cases each (all our other belongings have been in storage for 2 months!) We were told we would have to wait until 7 days before to book additional cases but the tickets were booked through my hubby's new work & we've now been told we have to book extra at the check in desk!!!! Keeping all our fingers & toes crossed that we are allowed to take them! We're also flying to singapore with BA & then to Melbourne with Qantas! Just something else to worry about! Lol xx
  10. Thanks for this chickibabes, This makes me feel a little better, to know that people do go through this. Tiggy will be in quarantine until the 24th August & I want to have somewhere set up for her so she feels at home. Think 'testing the water' is good advice & was what I was planning to do. I will keep you updated once we arrive! Thanks again, Kayleigh x
  11. This is great advice, thanks guys. I have set up a pet resume for her so hoping that this helps. I am edging towards somewhere unfurnished as we have everything else & have noticed that a lot of furnished places come with kettle, toaster, pots & pans etc which we really don't need. Worked out we will only initially need a fridge, freezer, washer, bed & something to sit on & have been investigating some rental places. Some are quite expensive & offer to fully furnish your home whereas others offer individual items. Got a lot of thinking to do but appreciate all the advice. First hurdle is actually figuring out where we're going to live!! Thanks again, Kayleigh, Mark & Tiggy x
  12. Hi all, I wasn't sure whether to post this under Pets or here so I posted it in both! My husband and I arrive in Melbourne on Friday 22nd June and we have accommodation for 1 month once we get there but after that we need to find somewhere to rent. I have been looking on Realestate.com ever since we knew we were going and am getting slightly concerned that our requirements are going to cause us significant problems! We sold most of our furniture along with our flat and so will need at least a basic furnished rental initially until we can start buying our own stuff. However we are also going to need a rental which allows pets. Marks future colleagues have suggested that we just don't tell the agent/landlord about Tiggy and just rent somewhere furnished. I can't help but feel guilty about lying as soon as we move! I'm just wondering if anyone else has had to go through this and what they did?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! x
  13. Yeah we are pretty worried about her. She's a house cat so is used to lots of attention so we are a little concerned about how she'll cope in quarantine. Everyone keeps telling us she'll be fine though so hopefully she will be :swoon: xx
  14. Oh yes, forgot to mention that we're also bringing our cat, Tiggy & her flight is booked for 24th July. Going to be strange being away from her for 2 months! Im sure it'll all go smoothly & really quickly!
  15. Hiya Jasperyogi, How exciting for you too, not long now Hope the move goes ok! We sold our flat in march & all our stuff is currently sitting in Liverpool waiting to be shipped! We've been living with my Dad! Our visa was approved this morning which is a great relief! Lol My car had been sold, flights & coach to the airport booked & 4 weeksaccommodation sorted. Just waiting to go now really. I do want to join an agency & organise some courses for when I get there so I can start looking for work. How are all your plans going?x
