  1. bought for $16000 and just been offered 10 by a dealer. cant seem to sell it privately probably cos its a manual and most young kids are taught in autos.
  2. has anyone shipped their car back to uk? was it worth it and was it tricky changing the kms to mph? just debating whether to take back car, only had it 8 months and will lose more money on it than it will cost to put into a 40ft container
  3. Going back to UK in 3 weeks. Have a few items we were going to give to salvos but just realised that they could be of help to someone. Everything is free, you just need to pick up. Were in Camden area of Sydney. 1. queen size bed with mattress. silver metal bed frame, slats. 4 years old but only used by daughter who is now 15. originally bought from Harvey Norman. 2. two red bar stools. 3. two bedside cabinets, ikea malm, dark brown. few years old but still look ok. 4. bosch washing machine. 10 years old but still works fine. Loose top and on off button missing. Honestly works fine and will save on those launderette bills 5. small fridge. Silver and black. Only been used as a beer fridge. 6. brown chest of drawers bought from Masters. three drawers. 7. portable gas bbq If nothing heard by end of next week, will be giving Salvos a call.
  4. Copper colour Suzuki Swift for sale 2011/2012 model. 5 speed manual, petrol. 16,150 kms. Bought from dealership as ex demo so still under warranty. Rego due end July. $13,000 ovno. Tinted windows, usb port. In Camden area of Sydney
  5. Not a particular foodie but have to say that we have found eating out in Sydney, in and around, to be very expensive for what you get. Indians are absolutely terrible and we have tried all of them in the local area, its like its come out of a Sharwoods jar. I have had to succumb to making my own curries, which I used to do in the UK but its nice once in a while to buy in or eat out. Chinese seems to be the most popular food but hubby hates it, says its really greasy and lacks taste. Went to a outback steak ranch the other week and paid $118 for one round of drinks and a meal each (4 of us), the meal consisted of ribs/steak or chicken with chips, won't be going back to that one anytime soon.
  6. My husband is going to be selling his Ssangyong musso ute and has been told that he will need a pink slip to sell it. I thought the pink slip (not called this anymore) is related to your rego. He renewed his rego back in January and had a safety check done on it at the same time. Does he have to do it again to sell the car or not? I've looked on the RTA website but still unsure:confused:
  7. Suzuki Swift 1.4 glfx for sale. Copper colour. 5 speed manual. Petrol. Still under warranty. Rego due end July. $13,000 ovno. Really good car for getting around city. Going back to UK in a couple of weeks. Can send pictures of any if needed. I'm in the Camden area of Sydney. thanks
  8. Did you manage to get any more quotes. Did you look into doing it all yourself to see if its cheaper. We shipped our dog over 6 months ago and looks like we're shipping her back again. She coped reasonably well with it all. She didn't like the crate or quarantine but she seems to have forgotten all about it now. When she was on the flight I think we all thought about her and wondered how she was but I rang the quarantine when she arrived and they said she was fine. Its probably what they say to everyone so you don't worry but she honestly was ok when I went to see her.
  9. Just been reading through a few posts and websites but everything still as clear as mud. Thinking of taking dog back to UK. She will have been here for around a year. she has all of her shots including rabies etc. We used an agent last time but trying to see if its cheaper without one. I was told that we had to use one as they were needed to put dog in crate etc and sign paperwork. As it turned out my friend took dog to Heathrow and put in crate so apart from them booking flight not quite sure what I paid for. Unsure of procedures. I know I need to keep jabs up to date and there will be paperwork to complete which I hope I can get from their websites. How do I book the flight, do I contact charter flights direct or do they fly on a separate carrier? Could I book a flight with say Singapore Airlines and then book dog onto same flight. If she travelled the day before us would she be kept at airport until our flight gets there. ,Next, how much roughly for flight. We still have the original crate.:goofy: confused.com
  10. so many familiar ping pong stories at least makes me feel almost normal. Originally came out 2008 to Melbourne and lasted 6 months, kids aged 7 and 9 at the time hated everything and missed family so much it was heartbreaking. Decided to try our luck again 2012 and have been in Sydney since September. Everything brilliant at first, kids although missed everyone again were older and fitted in better, a good school this time has helped enormously. Met lots of pommies and made connections. Returning back to UK is on cards again as hubby who is a bricky just been dropped by gang he was with and hes struggling to find other work. Ive been applying for work like its going out of fashion sine we got here and volunteering in local schools, I was a TA in UK. So tough to get anywhere. Aussie criteria for applicants is aussies first, citizens, permanent residents but if youre aboriginal you jump to the top of the list. (Not being rascist, this is actually listed n NSW health criteria). Not ready to return yet so will keep on paying too high a rent and school fees in the hope that something turns up. Will be gutted if we have to as second time of ping ponging affects your little bundle of cash a great deal. I cant even think of how much money weve spent doing this. Anyway, chins up hey
  11. so as my husband has ABN and only contracts to one person is that a better scenario. we are hoping that at some point i will be working as will be PAYE. So can credit history in UK be taken into consideration. Our deposit will be between 10-20% depending on property
  12. hi has anyone got a mortgage whilst being self employed and under 2 years in oz. just been advised by a mortgage expert that would need 2 year australian accounts to be considered, although bank told us 2 years tax returns from any country and proof of income here. Who is right? Cant face 2 years in rental, would rather be in cold UK. The bank mortgage advisor for two local branches on holiday for 2 weeks. arrggh
  13. Havent done TV's yet but we came across here before in 2008 and our english tv's worked just fine with the plug changed. Furniture still on its way to us. Was just changing plugs for hairdryers etc
  14. I know!! I don't think it was just the Frontline it was the cost of the blood tests again and then Frontline on top.
  15. Not sure if this post will be of use to anyone but it may be. My dog is currently in quarantine here in Sydney. We paid the agent before we left the UK, then paid quarantine fees once we had arrived. Just received another bill for airline fees. I checked with quarantine and they are fees that the airline charge when handing over your animal to them. It's around another $90. What a con!!! This is not a vet fee and I reckon that a lot of people are getting caught out with it. I was in quarantine today and overheard a conversation between one of the AQIS people and someone on the phone. The person was querying their invoices and querying this airline fee. Short version, don't bother even trying to dispute the fees as no-one listens and they won't release your pet until you have paid!!! The person had also been charged for further vet fees whilst in quarantine because their Frontline treatment hadn't been carried out correctly before getting to quarantine and so was being done again and re-tested for some other disease. This was around $350, if I heard correctly (they weren't very quiet when discussing this matter.) I think they must get a lot of the same queries as there was lots of eye rolling going on when the call was passed from one worker to another to deal with. So be very careful and make sure that your agency tells you every fee that will be paid and ensure your vet knows what they are doing before they sign their paperwork and put them on the plane. Or be of the mindset that the price quoted by the agency isn't full and final.
