  1. we just got travel insurance for 3 months and are going to sort out medicare once we arrive and find our feet
  2. at the end of the day if your willing to do lazy shopping and still look at the exchange rate to gbp when you buy anything you are always going to find some sort of cheaper comparison. leave it alone, your in another country this will happen. chill out relax and remember why you moved in the first place.
  3. well......... live in stoke but im actually scottish
  4. money is always going to be an issue regardless of where in the world people live, alot of people run around jaded by the fact the uk is amazing and cheap or australia is this magical land of sun sea and fun. both are true depending on what you wish to gain out of life, yes people that are pro either or are going to be more defensive. your basically messing with peoples ideal view or dream of a place, but for the many people jaded by the beauty or lure of a place they wish to live etc, they will seek out the best places to shop and live within their means to make their view of said chosen place a reality and not moan about the cost, the weather etc. if it is what you really want you will find a way to achieve the life you have imagined, get what you want. cost is based on your perspective on life, if you measure life as an expensive pair of jeans, the best milk in the shop because the advert says so, then that is your choice. if its the cheap jeans, next best milk, and a little extra saved, then that is your choice. its not a race to have the best the biggest and the most expensive, its more what you did with your time while you got to where you want to go.
  5. that is really sad that people will actually fall by the wayside and become what you fear the most. as far as bullying goes it is our strength of character that carry's us through, if that fails i see no reason to not seek legal advice, as for the cost it is understandable however all manageable. But do not expect much more from the uk.
  6. that length of time in oz and continual bullying? i do not mean to be rude but did you and your husband manage to find anyone in your area that are friends, good customers etc?
  7. start a friday club up mate you'll be surprised at how many people get into it
  8. right thats us all sorted 5 weeks in perth while im at training school so will begin fri the 14th september location to be confirmed. although looking like como or surrounding area
  9. still on about the jeans? oh dear what we need here is some scottish inspiration, leave your jeans in your wardrobe and try a kilt! yes i know its a skirt really but it has a multitude of uses you can be casual, smart and always comfortably cool or warm if you wear long socks. plus it save cost on underwear. all you need is a tartan curtain, $2 per m2 bargain
  10. so judging by this thread when i arrive in perth in september, i need to buy a pair of cheap jeans (my ass looks great in anything) a box of wine, bottle of lemonade and drown my sorrows for moving to the most expensive place in the world? in fairness it does seem expensive but hey this is the price you pay for an adventure. i maybe cant afford to go on my own arctic expedition but im sure i can afford to live in in oz. gutted about the box of wine though im fairly partial to some nice single barrel jack daniels
  11. nice one, thatll be you starting visa shortly then
  12. this gero move is looking like its goin gto be messy
  13. hi, im just looking to find out any information from fellow poms that have made the move and your experiences with the oz banks, have read alot on here regarding charges for drawing out money etc. is there any chance of a breakdown of who would recommend a bank etc. Its a mine field all the information on line and would appreciate it to be simplified.
  14. we fly the 12 sep to perth, then onto geraldton 5 weeks later
  15. if it has been a few weeks keep an eye on your spam folder, some helpful advice from a fellow member i followed and found mine had been sitting there for a few days lol
  16. well they have not asked for more information to prove defacto relationship so im assuming were on the right path now. im so envious of the quick turn around times that are being posted.
  17. we have no idea where we stand yet company just asked us to send info to their agent sign a few forms and wait. been a week
  18. is it just me or does finding all the information required as evidence etc seem like your stalking yourself and your family? i didnt know i knew us all so well lol
  19. to be honest, i dont think in your wifes case a line managers word would carry far less weight than any of the doctors or specialists she may have worked with.
  20. i was under the impression it was at some point illegal to give out a false and damaging reference when asked after a harassment, bullying case?
  21. it is something i have always had since working, regardless of anything else during the week friday was reserved as a social club basically blow off some steam and chat utter crap with the group, it is defo something that allows sanity to reign the week after lol. it doesn't have to be couples there are no rules, just chill and have fun. sounds like we need a poi friday club setting up in the areas everyone is in have a yearly friday club wa party
  22. possibly not the most important thing i could post however, where do people stand on a social drinking/laugh a minute friday club? have you had one in the uk and have you continued it in oz?
  23. I can sympathize with not telling work about oz, besides moving it is one of the biggest walls to scale!
